CONVOCATION OF PRIESTS

Bishop Caggiano is asking for prayers as he and all the priests throughout the Diocese of Bridgeport prepare to gather at the Fifth Convocation of Priests from Sunday, October 15 through Wednesday, October 18. The Convocation, which takes place every three years, will be held this year in Newport, Rhode Island.

The theme of the Convocation is “Of One Heart and Mind: Brothers United in Christ.” The purpose of the three-day meeting is to strengthen the fraternal bonds among the priests and to provide a time of spiritual renewal for them so that they may return with an even greater commitment to service.

Please be aware that Masses will not be celebrated in parishes throughout the diocese from Monday, October 15 through Wednesday, October 18; however, at St. Catherine’s, communion services will be celebrated by our deacons. Members of the Jesuit Community at Fairfield University and religious order priests will be available for emergencies.

Thank you for your prayers and support toward this very important event in the lives of our priests and the Diocese.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA SUPPORT CIRCLE

Handling the Toughest Interview Questions Thursday, October 12, 2017

7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Room 209 Whether you’re just entering the workforce or are a seasoned professional, there will always be those 1 or 2 interview questions that will catch you off guard. These can be tough questions, but nothing to be afraid of if you are prepared! On one hand, interviews are a time for you to share your work history and experiences to convince the Company you are the BEST candidate for the job. On the other hand, it’s a time for the Company to uncover the competencies you have used in the past and the behavior you have shown during that time. Interviewers are looking for the following attributes, in addition your skills and competencies: whether you are a team player, a potential leader, a professional with strong work ethics. By asking certain questions, they can learn more about you and whether or not you have this attributes. Examples: “What was the last major problem you encountered at work, and how did you resolve it?” or “Describe the most stressful task you have had to undertake?” Questions like these may help employers eliminate bad hires, but for job seekers they present a new kind of challenge: candidates must not only demonstrate their work skills but how fast they can think and how gracefully they perform under pressure as well. However, while the prospect of being asked these interview questions may be frightening, with a little practice applicants can turn them to their advantage and use them to stand out from the crowd. This will be an interactive session facilitated by Maureen Ducret and Celeste Robledo, members of the St. Catherine’s Support Circle Steering Committee and experts in this area. Maureen has spent the last 5 years in a senior HR role and spent more than 10 years consulting for various companies in the Fairfield and Westchester counties focused mainly on recruitment. Celeste is a Career Advisor with more than ten years of experience in talent acquisition and development and helps her clients make the most out of each interview. In order to reserve a space at the SCSC table, please RSVP Celeste Robledo at [email protected] The St. Catherine’s Support Circle was formed in early 2009 to support people seeking jobs in the current challenging economic environment. The group continues to encourage participation by both job seekers and those interested in providing their advice and support. To read about helpful information and recommended resources for job seekers, visit www.stcath.org.

The SCSC steering committee includes professionals who have experience in diverse areas including human resources, executive search, career coaching, clinical career counseling, general management, education, marketing, public relations, finance, accounting and IT. If you have similar experience, and would be interested in joining your fellow professionals on the committee, please contact SCSC Chairman Bob Sloane at [email protected]

The 10th Annual Connecticut Men’s Conference will be held Saturday, October 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol. This is a joint effort of the three Latin dioceses of Connecticut and the Ukranian Eparchy of Stamford.

Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people:

"What is your opinion?” Gospel Reflection – Mt 21: 28-32 Jesus tells a parable to a group of religious leaders. He wants them to figure out which one of the sons did his father's will. Was it the one who said yes but never showed up? Or was it the one who said no but later repented and carried out the father's wishes. Sometimes people can deceive us by smooth talk. But God is never deceived. Like Jesus, our lives can be a "yes" to God the Father in word and deed. Question of the Week: How does St. Catherine’s respond to the Lord’s call to work in his vineyard? What care does the vineyard need today? Family Discussion Questions for the Gospel Have you ever said, "yes" to someone and then not done what you agreed to do? Did you ever say "no" to someone who asked you (like a parent or teacher) but then regretted it and changed your mind? Jesus is making it clear that sinners who repent are entering the kingdom before the priests and elders who did not repent and believe. What do you think of this?

If you have thoughts or questions about todays Gospel, any questions about your faith, or simply to let me know you’re reading these discussions, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I’d love to hear from you.
