INSTRUCTIONS-PYREX FLAMEWARE

(l) Use very moderate heat, low gas flames, or low electric power. A medium gas flame or high electri c heal may be used Lo starl the food Lo boil , but when boiling bt'gins th e gas flame shou ld be turned low, lo an almost bead-like appearance, and the electric heat should be turned lo "low" or even "o ff." PYREX Flame­ware absorbs heal very rapidl y and efficiently. This reduces the amount of gas, electricity, or other fuel nec essary lo u se in cookin g.

(2) Avoid boiling dry or allowing foods Lo burn or stick Lo the dish. Should the dish boil dry do not add waler until the dish cools. Boiling dry or charring foods in the dish may cause later breakage of the dish. Excessive slickin g of food in a PYREX dish indicates the use of too much hea l. Adding water to a sauce­pan before putting in the vegetables and occasional stir rin g as the food comes to a boil lessen any tendency for the food to stick to the dish ; and consequently save food and reduce the tim e required for dish washing.

(3) Empty dishes should not be placed or left on hot burners. Always put water, food or grease in di sh before heating.

(4) In making gravy, remove PYRE saucepan or frying pan from the direct heal and allow to cool for a minute or so, before adding liquid to the hot di sh . Similarly, to prevent severe tem­perature shock s, avoid pouring cold sa uc es into hot dishes .

(5) Use dry cloth s when handling hot dishes and set on dry surfaces only.

(6) Do not heat food in cans or bottles set in water in a PYREX dish where the water between the bottom of the can or bottle and the dish ca n be boiled away permitting th e PYREX dish to overheat in one spot.

CLEANING

If food scorches in the dish, fill it with warm water Lo which baking soda has been added and soak for a half hour or lon ger. (Use 3 tablespoons of baking soda to a quart of water .) Then wash with soap and hot water. Avoid using any gritty cleaning powders or pads which might scratch the glass.

GREASING

When used for baking these PYREX dishes should be gen­erously greased, as this les sens dish scrubb ing . For Top of Stove use, put a littl e waler or grease in the dish before adding other foods as thi s shortens the .;me required for di sh washing.

MINERAL DEPOSITS

In hard water regions a mineral deposit may collect on the in­side of the dish. If the dish is wa shed well with soap and hot waler after each use, this hard water deposit is easily removed.

Stubborn mineral deposits may be removed by filling the dish half full of water, adding two tablespoonfuls of vinegar. After boiling for a few minutes, wash in soap and hot water. A damp cloth sprinkled with a cleaning powd er, or sco uring pads will also remove hard water deposits. Never ~<"ratch any PYREX dish with gritty scouring pads or powders.

Do not use for deep fat frying.
