slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and repents of evil.

At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty days and forty nights…-Matthew 4:1 Which voices do we listen to? The world is a noisy place and we are bombarded by voices telling us what to wear, what to buy, what to believe, what is beautiful. During this holy season of Lent, we are invited to enter the desert with Jesus. Here we will learn, like Jesus, to discern the voice of our loving God against the din of competing voices. As we allow God’s voice to speak deep in our hearts, we discover ourselves as loved uncon-ditionally, as beloved. As we come to know ourselves as God’s beloved, we are more able to see the face of God in the needy around us and to become instruments of God’s love and mercy to those we encounter. Pope Francis encourages us “to lose ourselves decisively on the path of Jesus, the path which leads to life…Let us enter into the desert without fear, because we are not alone; we are with Jesus, with the Father and with the Holy Spirit. In fact, as it was for Jesus, it is the Holy Spirit who guides us on the Lenten journey; that same Spirit descended upon Jesus and has been given to us in Baptism. As we cross the Lenten “desert,” we fix our gaze toward Easter, which is Jesus’ definitive victory against evil, against sin and against death.” We invite you to enter fully into this Lenten journey into the desert. Take advantage of the offerings of our collab-orative for prayer and reflection, for service and for reconciliation. Let’s listen together to the voice of God. Yours in Christ Jesus, Fr. Jim

This weekend (2/29 - 3/1) we are collecting canned fruit and laundry detergent for the Wellesley Food Pantry. Did you know that the Wellesley Food Pantry provides basic food and personal care products to Wellesley residents, serving more than 425 people, with a third aged 60+ and another third aged 18 and under? About two-thirds of the clientele come from public housing. The Wellesley Food Pantry is always very grateful for your donations and our monthly participation. Your donations may be left in the bins at the front entrance of St. Paul church.

Lent is a call to "give alms for the poor." Wherever you live in the parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your home. When in need, they ring the rectory bell. They are, in effect, ringing your doorbell. Is there a

This Lent, you are invited to participate in the One Heart Lent Program, an effort to help feed hun-gry people in Lawrence, MA. The One Heart Lent Program raises money to provide free, nutritious meals in Lawrence through the Cor Unum Meal Center. (“Cor Unum” means “One Heart” in Latin.) Cor Unum serves meals to hundreds of people every day, 365 days a year.

Almsgiving is our sharing our material treasure with people who are in need. The One Heart Lent Program is a fan-tastic opportunity for your family to do Lenten almsgiving. To participate, all you need is an open heart, the desire to grow in the Lord, and a jar. Throughout Lent place your Lenten alms in the jar. At the end of Lent, put your collec-tion in the form of a check and mail it to the One Heart Lent Program. Every dollar you contribute will provide one full, nutritious meal at Cor Unum. �� ³-´ Each year, in preparing for Lent, we reach out as a community to one particular place of suffering, amid so many in the world, through our Collaborative Lenten Gift. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus reminds us not only that we must love our neighbors - without boundaries - but that our love must be manifest in action. This year, our Collaborative Lenten Gift will help us manifest our love into action by establishing a St. John-St. Paul Collaborative POWIR Fund to support our ongoing immigrant and refugee resettlement work in partnership with Catholic Charities Boston. In 2019, our collaborative established a POWIR ("Parishes Organized to Welcome Immigrants and Refugees") program to assist Catholic Charities with immigrant and refugee resettlement. POWIR programs have helped thousands of refugee clients find places to live, make friends, learn English, find work, receive pro bono legal counsel and medical services, and achieve social integration. Throughout Lent, in the bulletin and on the websites, we will share the POWIR story with you as we prepare for our Special Collection on March 28-29.

Next weekend, we will officially launch the 2020 Catholic Appeal in our parish. Each year, we are called to make a gift to the Appeal so that we can support the Archdiocese and the many Central Ministries that make our parishes, schools, and communities stronger. "Finding God in the Ordinary" will be directed by Father William Barry, S.J. The program begins at 9am followed by Mass at 10am and ending at 4pm.
