NEW SCHEDULEA new schedule may invoke the fear of change but we are asking you to look at the positive side…you may meet new people. This event is a one-day program, so everyone who in the past has said they could not get off from work…can come. Everyone who has said they did not want to be gone from home two days…can come. Everyone who has said they do not really have an active library…can come and see how First Baptist Church, Summit, changed their library. All conferences will be 75 minutes in length. We will have plenty of time between conferences to transition to the next class. We hope to see you there!

SPECIAL GUEST AUTHORRAMONA BRIDGES

Life-long resident of Mississippi, Ra-mona Bridges lets her Christian faith shine through and uses her writings to inspire others to trust in God and have hope when life’s troubles seem insurmountable.

In what turned out to be an award win-ning debut novel, she weaves an unforget-table story about unfailing love, deceit, and forgiveness set against a background of strife and hardship in late-1800’s Mis-sissippi. With a cast of characters that will capture your imagination and your heart, Sweet By and By celebrates God’s promise of faith and hope amidst life’s in-

evitable disappointments. The recipient of the 2012 MLA Award for Fiction, Sweet By and By is Book 1 in her ‘story about love’ trilogy. Standing On the Promises is Book 2 in the series, followed by An Un-clouded Day. Her first children’s book, titled What Will We do Today?, was released in the fall of 2014.

CONFERENCESHOST CHURCHBASIC ADMINISTRATION Bring your questions as we discuss proce-dures for a library ministry in your church. (This session is designed for new library team member.)

CELEBRATING YOUR CHURCH HISTORYChurches can benefit from celebrations and commemorations of historical events. This class will look at all that can be included in a celebration, including outlines for basic to comprehensive celebrations. We’ll cover the basics for church histories, historical markers, promotional ideas, oral histories, and more.

THE CHURCH ARCHIVEWondering where to start when preserving your church history? Church history is more than meeting minutes and membership lists. Find out what items you should be collecting and saving, and how to preserve those items for future generations.

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENTThe mechanics and the content of your collec-tion: how current is it? how relevant? See how your collection can be balanced to meet the needs of your congregation. Check out how to boost your prayer life, and get folks pas-sionate about missions. There are some excit-ing books available to help “tell someone;” bring your current favorite, I’ll bring mine.

CONCOURSE BEGINNINGLearning how to automate your library or how to use basic Concourse shortcuts will help you get media on the shelf faster and help you manage your collection so that you can focus on encouraging and discipling people with media.

CONCOURSE Q&AAn open Q&A time to ask about various fea-tures of Concourse that will help your library minister to individuals and groups that use it.

DEWEY AND SEARS FOR EVERYONEHow do we arrange media and how do we find it? All team members need a working knowledge of Dewey and Sears to be able to shelve or locate items and to be able to assist customers in finding media in the library.

EQUIPPING TEAMS FOR MINISTRYEach team member brings their unique in-sight to the team. We will explore various po-sitions of service and the qualities needed for a successful ministry.

IMPORTANCE OF A CHURCH LIBRARY IN THIS DIGITAL AGEIt is easy to become insulated and comfort-able in a cozy church library cocoon. Are we ready to relinquish our children to vampires and princesses or to counter the culture? We will look at trends (ex. communication through social media, new technology, the aging population, etc.) that might impact what we do and how we do it. We will look at strategies to remain relevant in a changing world while still being true to our calling to provide TRUTH.

LET’S TALK PICTURESExplore, in more detail, unique projects to help promote church history. Learn more details about oral histories, time capsules, historical calendars, books of remembrance, and more.

POLICIES FOR THE LIBRARYEstablishing policies for your library will give it direction for a successful ministry. We will consider policies needed immediately and others for future needs.

PREVENTION AND REPAIR How do we keep from having piles of books to repair? Preventive processing! But, acci-dents happen! Having proper supplies and knowing the steps to take will make the re-pairs easier.

PROCESSING — SHOW & TELLTake a look at examples of processed media — books, audio books, DVDs, kits, etc. — and briefly discuss the procedures involved in getting items ready for circulation. PROMOTION Join the discussion as we consider the tools needed to plan an eye catching promotion that encourages readers to come into the library.

ROUND TABLE — LET’S TALK!Do you have ideas for a ministry that prays, reaches out, connects people, and devel-ops disciples who are on mission with Jesus Christ? Can you envision your church library as a Disciple Making Center?

RESEARCHING & WRITING A CHURCH HISTORYThe idea of writing a church history can be overwhelming. This class will help in plan-ning and research; locating resources in your church, at the MBHC, your public library and other archives; selecting a writer; and other details to consider.
