Dear brothers and sisters,
These past two Sundays we had the possibility to celebrate two important feasts: the Black Christ of Esquipulas and our Lady of Altagracia. The celebra-tions were simple yet beautiful and faith filled. It’s important, especially during this difficult time, to be connected to our faith and to the great intercessors that God has put on our way. I hope that, most of all, you were able to pray and to give thanks to God for everything He does in our lives. The devil always shows us the glass half empty. Yet, we should give thanks for the glass half full! We were able to gather in Church, to pray, to be one. Let us never forget or take for granted everything He does for us.
Also, I want to remind you that we have begun a series of liturgies and Catechesis in Spanish in the Mater Dei Chapel, Lower Church, Mondays and Thursdays at 7:30 pm. God is giving us all the tools we need to never doubt of His love, to see our life with the eyeglasses of faith! Let us not reject this opportunity!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas,
Estos dos últimos domingos tuvimos la posibilidad de celebrar dos importantes fiestas: el Cristo Negro de Esquipulas y Nuestra Señora de las Altagracia. Las celebraciones fueron sencillas pero hermosas y lle-nas de fe. Es importante, especialmente durante este momento difícil, estar conectados con nuestra fe y con los grandes intercesores que Dios ha puesto en nuestro camino. Espero que, sobre todo, hayas podi-do orar y dar gracias a Dios por todo lo que hace en nuestras vidas. El diablo siempre nos muestra el va-so medio vacío. Sin embargo, ¡deberíamos dar gra-cias por el vaso medio lleno! Pudimos reunirnos en la Iglesia, rezar, ser uno. No olvidemos ni tomemos por sentado todo lo que Él hace por nosotros.
Además, quiero recordarles que hemos comenzado una serie de liturgias y catequesis en español en la Capilla Mater Dei, Iglesia de abajo, los lunes y jueves a las 7:30 pm. ¡Dios nos está dando todas las herra-mientas que necesitamos para nunca dudar de Su amor, para ver nuestra vida con los anteojos de la fe! ¡No rechacemos esta oportunidad!

Mark makes clear in today’s Gospel that Jesus spoke with a different kind of authority, not like the Scribes of his day. Jesus taught with a certainty that spoke to them of God. Jesus’ words, his deeds and his response to those in need both astonished and amazed them. Have you felt astonished and amazed when you hear Jesus speak to you? Take some time this week to recall the words from scripture that may have amazed you.

Due to the lack in attendance at the Mass on Saturdays at 4 pm, we have decided to suspend this celebration until we hear that there are at least 20 people interested in the 4 pm on Sat-urday. In the past months, due to the Covid-19 and to the cold, the attendance has been less than 10 people in average. Please pray for our Parish.

CONSECRATION TO SAINT JOSEPH’S CONSAGRACIÓN A SAN JOSE
What does it mean for a person to be consecrated to St. Jo-seph? Well, it basically means that you acknowledge that he is your spiritual father, and you want to be like him. To show it, you entrust yourself entirely into his paternal care so that he can help you acquire his virtues and become holy. Total conse-cration to St. Joseph means you make a formal act of filial en-trustment to your spiritual father so that he can take care of your spiritual well-being and lead you to God. The person who consecrates himself to St. Joseph wants to be as close to their spiritual father as possible, to the point of resembling him in virtue and holiness. Saint Joseph, in turn, will give those con-secrated to him his undivided attention, protection, and guidan-ce. On March 19, the Solemnity of St. Joseph, we will have the opportunity to express our love for our patron Saint and conse-crating ourselves to him. We will follow the structure of Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father by Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC. The preparation will start on February 15th9 and you can do it from your home; you just need the book to guide you. If you are interested, register with Ana Silvia at the end of Mass or call the Parish Office. We will meet once a week to see how it is going! ¿Qué significa para una persona estar consagrada a San Jo-sé? Básicamente significa que reconoces que él es tu padre espiritual y quieres ser como él. Para demostrarlo, te entregas enteramente a su cuidado paterno para que te ayude a adquirir sus virtudes y santificarte. La consagración total a San José significa que haces un acto formal de encomienda filial a tu padre espiritual para que pueda cuidar de tu bienestar espiri-tual y conducirte a Dios. La persona que se consagra a San José quiere estar lo más cerca posible de su padre espiritual, hasta el punto de parecerse a él en virtud y santidad. San Jo-sé, a su vez, dará a los consagrados su atención, protección y guía indivisa.
El 19 de marzo, Solemnidad de San José, tendremos la opor-tunidad de expresar nuestro amor por nuestro Santo Patrón y consagrarnos a él. Seguiremos la estructura de la Consagra-ción a San José: Las Maravillas de Nuestro Padre Espiritual por el P. Donald Calloway, MIC. La preparación comenzará el 15 de febrero y podrás hacerlo desde tu casa; solo necesitas el libro para guiarte. TERCERA PARTE CARTA APOSTÓLICA PATRIS CORDE DEL SANTO PADRE FRANCISCO CON MOTIVO DEL 150.° ANIVERSARIO DE LA DECLARACIÓN DE SAN JOSÉ COMO PATRONO DE LA IGLESIA UNIVERSAL.
Padre en la obediencia Así como Dios hizo con María cuando le manifestó su plan de salva-ción, también a José le reveló sus designios y lo hizo a través de sueños que, en la Biblia, como en todos los pueblos antiguos, eran considerados uno de los medios por los que Dios manifestaba su vo-luntad.[13] José estaba muy angustiado por el embarazo incomprensible de Ma-ría; no quería “denunciarla públicamente”,[14] pero decidió “romper su compromiso en secreto” (Mt 1,19). En el primer sueño el ángel lo ayudó a resolver su grave dilema: “No temas aceptar a María, tu mu-jer, porque lo engendrado en ella proviene del Espíritu Santo. Dará a luz un hijo, y tú le pondrás por nombre Jesús, porque él salvará a su pueblo de sus pecados” (Mt 1,20-21). Su respuesta fue inmediata: “Cuando José despertó del sueño, hizo lo que el ángel del Señor le había mandado” (Mt 1,24). Con la obediencia superó su drama y sal-vó a María.
En el segundo sueño el ángel ordenó a José: “Levántate, toma contigo al niño y a su madre, y huye a Egipto; quédate allí hasta que te diga, porque Herodes va a buscar al niño para matarlo” (Mt 2,13). José no dudó en obedecer, sin cuestionarse acerca de las dificultades que podía encontrar: “Se levantó, tomó de noche al niño y a su madre, y se fue a Egipto, donde estuvo hasta la muerte de Herodes” (Mt 2,14-15). En Egipto, José esperó con confianza y paciencia el aviso prometido por el ángel para regresar a su país. Y cuando en un tercer sueño el mensajero divino, después de haberle informado que los que intentaban matar al niño habían muerto, le ordenó que se levantara, que tomase consigo al niño y a su madre y que volviera a la tierra de Israel (cf. Mt 2,19-20), él una vez más obedeció sin vacilar: “Se levantó, tomó al niño y a su madre y entró en la tierra de Israel” (Mt 2,21). Pero durante el viaje de regreso, “al enterarse de que Arquelao reinaba en Judea en lugar de su padre Hero-des, tuvo miedo de ir allí y, avisado en sueños —y es la cuarta vez que sucedió—, se retiró a la región de Gali-lea y se fue a vivir a un pueblo llamado Nazaret” (Mt 2,22-23). El evangelista Lucas, por su parte, relató que José afrontó el largo e incómodo viaje de Nazaret a Belén, según la ley del censo del emperador César Augusto, para empadronarse en su ciudad de origen. Y fue precisamente en esta circunstancia que Jesús nació y fue asentado en el censo del Imperio, como todos los demás niños (cf. Lc 2,1-7). San Lucas, en particular, se preocupó de resaltar que los padres de Jesús observaban todas las prescripciones de la ley: los ritos de la circuncisión de Jesús, de la purificación de María después del parto, de la presentación del primogénito a Dios (cf. 2,21-24).[15] En cada circunstancia de su vida, José supo pronunciar su “fiat”, como María en la Anunciación y Jesús en Get-semaní. José, en su papel de cabeza de familia, enseñó a Jesús a ser sumiso a sus padres, según el mandamiento de Dios (cf. Ex 20,12). En la vida oculta de Nazaret, bajo la guía de José, Jesús aprendió a hacer la voluntad del Padre. Dicha volun-tad se transformó en su alimento diario (cf. Jn 4,34). Incluso en el momento más difícil de su vida, que fue en Getsemaní, prefirió hacer la voluntad del Padre y no la suya propia[16] y se hizo “obediente hasta la muerte […] de cruz” (Flp 2,8). Por ello, el autor de la Carta a los Hebreos concluye que Jesús “aprendió sufriendo a obede-cer” (5,8). Todos estos acontecimientos muestran que José “ha sido llamado por Dios para servir directamente a la perso-na y a la misión de Jesús mediante el ejercicio de su paternidad; de este modo él coopera en la plenitud de los tiempos en el gran misterio de la redención y es verdaderamente ‘ministro de la salvación”.[17]
