The automation of the task of driving, the continually in-creasing transfer of vehicle control tasks from driver to the vehicle and the associated changing roles of man and machine are key contemporary issues in the development of future transport systems. Highly or fully automated driving functions should off er the driver the relief from the primary task of controlling the vehicle and enable his attention to be turned to other matters. This goes hand in hand with the reduction of the risk of accidents and an increase in traffi c safety. The mobility of tomorrow on the whole will be markedly changed by the introduction of automated driving.
In order to meet these goals, there are still a number of hurdles to be overcome. The need exists for harmonisa-tion, standardisation and an in depth exchange of infor-mation for all involved parties – scientifi c, regulatory, in-surance law and manufacturing.

SCHWERPUNKTE FOCAL POINTS
Eff ects of automated driving on the requirements and development of passive safety: in addition to innovati-ve interior concepts and new seating positions, also chan-ges to the events of an accident due to automation have an infl uence on aspects of passive safety and may lead to adjustments to simulations and physical tests.
Agile development methods and virtual proof of saf-ety in addition to homologation criteria and certifi ca-tion: Development techniques to implement adjustments on short notice and the necessary verifi cation processes for the licensing authorities.
Legal and societal framework in the global environ-ment: the conditions to survey data internationally, the licensing of automated driving functions and the trends for requirements of consumer protection agencies as well as legal aspects pertaining to insurance all have an eff ect on the guiding principles for development.
Questions pertaining to the explanation of decisions or the training methods for rare occurrences will play a role in the application of artifi cial intelligence.
The eff ects of the automated environment on the dri-ver such as the general acceptance of assistance as well as the infl uence of that assistance on the driver’s compe-tencies in addition to modeling the performance poten-tial of forecasts are portions of the discussion.

At the conference, when observing the road user in the context of automated driving, the focus is placed less upon physical limits, and rather on cognitive charac-teristics, the ability to perceive and react. Accident re-search still delivers valuable results, however in addition to this retrospective approach, the additional element of prospective analysis must also be incorporated. Aspects including adequate validation of necessary functions, assessment of controllability of critical situations caused by road users, a validated prognosis of the potential eff ective-ness of new systems and many additional similar topics will be specifi cally addressed as part of this congress.
The focal points described here distinguish themselves by means of both a non-competitive nature and the power-ful need for the interconnectedness of the aff ected and involved parties. This expert dialogue intends to off er a substantial contribution to precisely these two aspects.
As opposed to other events, a strong emphasis is placed on the dialogue character of this event: compact expert contributions with suffi cient opportunity for discussion and exchange. The line-up of the program committee refl ects the interdisciplinary character contained in the selected presentations.
Specialists and executives of vehicle manufacturers, sup-pliers, vehicle security service providers, automotive indus-try, insurers, technical monitoring associations, representa-tives of authorities, etc. as well as traffi c psychologists and accident researchers
