Objectives of the Workshop
• To summarise the benefits of the HICF (laptops are available around the room for individuals to browse the tool)
• To understand how the HICF is being used in the service. Short presentations by two Senior Managers, using the HICF in the service will be given
• To participate in group work to consider how the HICF can be used in participants’ organisations

How do we use the Career Framework?
• Raised awareness of all staff with 1 day workshop• Identify the skills needed for roles within the Unit• Used to develop job descriptions for new posts.• Links skill requirements to KSF outlines• Develop training plans using gap analysis of what
skills staff have and what they need now and for the future.
Next steps
• Ensure that all staff are reminded to use the career framework at KSF review and when agreeing their Personal Development plans
• Succession Planning: using the career framework, identify areas for development of existing work practices and staff to meet the future needs if WCISU

• NHS reforms• Job descriptions no longer match functions.• Difficulties in recruitment• Need to develop in house skills• Gain “respect” for informatics
Process for the Workshops
• Engage with staff re need for change• Agree check process to ensure all engaged and
understanding• Identify core functions• All involved in categorization of functions• Results collated and checked against Career
framework functions
Short term expectations
• Analysis of functions will lead to roles to suit Powys environment
• Roles will lead to evaluated job descriptions and post outlines and new structure
• Proposal document prepared with support form Hi profile for consideration by Powys Board
• On approval:• Staff can be aligned to roles• Training needs identified• Post outlines will include possibilities for career
development
Longer term expectations
• Career framework supports recognition of IM&T as a profession
• Staff will be able to develop careers with appropriate education and training supported by NHS Wales
• Recruitment difficulties will be eased by such in house developments
• A degree of standardisation will provide stability for informatics across NHS Wales regardless of organisational changes.
