The pre-deployment upgrade indicates an upgrade scenario in which the BTS software is upgraded when the GTMU is not connected to the BSC.

Version of data configuration supports SRAN: indicates that the Is Support Normalized Data Configuration parameter is set to SUPPORT(Support).

The M2000 can upgrade software only for the following boards:

− GTMU

− TRX board

− Universal BaseBand Radio Interface (UBRI)

− Universal Transmission Processing (UTRP)

Software upgrade of the monitoring boards and USCU boards needs to be performed on the BSC6900 LMT or SMT. For detailed operations, see the 3900 Series GSM BTS V100R013C00SPC047 Upgrade Guide (BSC6900 LMT-Based) and 3900 Series GSM BTS V100R013C00SPC047 Upgrade Guide (SMT-Based). Whether monitoring boards need to be upgraded depends on precautions released by Huawei.

The upgrade of a BTS from non-SRAN data configuration to SRAN data configuration can be performed on only the M2000.

This document describes the BTS software upgrade from BTS3000V100R009 or BTS3000V100R012 to BTS3000V100R013 or within BTS3000V100R013 by using the M2000.

Select an upgrade guide appropriate to your upgrade scenario.

1.2 Applicable BTS VersionsTable 1-1 lists the applicable BTS versions before upgrade.

CAUTIONFor a multi-mode base station, SingleRAN3.0 or later can be upgraded directly to the target version whereas versions earlier than SingleRAN3.0 must be upgraded to SingleRAN3.0 first before it is upgraded to the target version.

For the upgrade of SingleRAN3.0 and later versions, check Appendix 1 Version Mapping Information to see whether the source version is a SingleRAN version. You can obtain this appendix from the multi-mode base station release notes in the document package delivered with the software version of the multi-mode base station. 2. Services will be interrupted during the upgrade. Therefore, you are advised to upgrade the BTS software during off-peak hours.

3. During the BTS upgrade process, do not reset boards or the BTS.

4. The figures in this document are captured from iManagerM2000 V200R011C00SPC200. This document uses the upgrade from BTS3000V100R009C00 to BTS3000V100R013C00SPCXXX as an example.

5. The time information required for each procedure is for reference only.

6. Configurations on the BSC6900 LMT or configuration management express (CME) require BTS configuration control rights, which may result in a BTS upgrade failure on the M2000. Therefore, during the BTS upgrade on the M2000, do not use the BSC6900 LMT or CME to perform any operations on the BTSs to be upgraded.

7. Data configuration on the SMT will occupy BTS management rights, which may result in a BTS upgrade failure on the M2000. Therefore, during the BTS upgrade on the M2000, do not use the SMT to obtain BTS management rights on the BTSs to be upgraded.

8. The M2000 can upgrade software only for the following boards: GTMU, TRX board, UBRI and UTRP. The software of the monitoring boards and USCU must be upgraded on the BSC6900 LMT or SMT. For details, see the 3900 Series GSM BTS V100R013C00SPC047 Upgrade Guide (BSC6900 LMT-Based) and 3900 Series GSMBTS V100R013C00SPC047 Upgrade Guide (SMT-Based).

9. When upgrading a BTS on the iManager M2000 V200R010C00SPC200 or a later version, do not turn on or turn off the automatic loading and activation switch manually, because the M2000 automatically turns on and turns off the switch. Before performing a loading task, the M2000 disables the automatic loading and activation switch. After the loading task is complete, the Auto Download Active Function Switch is OFF. After the activation task is complete, the M2000 enables the automatic loading and activation switch.

10. If the BTS software does not run properly after the upgrade or KPIs after the upgrade do not meet the customers' requirements, perform version rollback and contact Huawei technical support.

11. Only BTS3000V100R012 or later versions support the UTRP.

CAUTION All modes of a multi-mode base station and the base station controllers (if any) must be

managed by the same M2000, and the modes have been bound to each other on the M2000. For details about how to determine the mode of a base station, see section 7.5 "How Do I Judge Whether a Base Station Runs in Multi-Mode or Single-Mode?"

For a multi-mode base station, ensure that the versions of different modes are compatible with each other after the upgrade. If a multi-mode and co-module base station is upgraded mode by mode, the upgrade interval between two modes should not exceed one day.

1.4.2 Upgrade Precautions

Table 1-1 Alarm generated on a dual-mode base station during a mode-by-mode upgrade

Precautions Aspect

Description

Problem Description

In versions earlier than BTS3900 V100R004C00SPC130(GBTS:BTS3000V100R013C00SPC019), Input Voltage Alarm Upper Threshold is set to a small value, 57V, which leads to a false alarm. Therefore, in BTS3900 V100R004C00SPC130(GBTS:BTS3000V100R013C00SPC019), the value of this parameter is changed to 58V.

However, this change causes the alarm ALM-26271 Inter-System Monitoring Device Parameter Settings Conflict to be generated when the following conditions are met:

The EMU board is shared between two modes of the dual-mode base station.

The version of one mode is upgraded to BTS3900 V100R004C00SPC130 (GBTS:BTS3000V100R013C00SPC019)or a later version during a mode-by-mode upgrade.

Impact When the EMU board is shared between two modes, the preceding alarm is generated if the values of Input Voltage Alarm Upper Threshold are inconsistent between two modes.

After the versions of two modes are both upgraded to BTS3900 V100R004C00SPC130 (GBTS:BTS3000V100R013C00SPC019)or a later version, the preceding alarm is cleared because the values of Input Voltage Alarm Upper Threshold are consistent between the two modes.

1.5 Mode-by-Mode Upgrade of a Multi-Mode Base Station

This section provides details about upgrading one mode of a multi-mode base station. You can ignore this section if the base station to be upgraded is not a multi-mode base station.

1.5.1 Impacts on the Services of the Peer EndUpgrading the GSM mode of a GL/GU/GUL multi-mode base station will interrupt the services of other modes for less than 3 minutes.

1.5.2 Loading Control RightsThe USCU and the RF modules shared by all modes of a multi-mode base station can be upgraded with the mode that has loading control rights.

The M2000 sets loading control rights automatically. For details about which mode has loading control rights, see Appendix 1 Version Mapping Information. You can obtain this appendix from the multi-mode base station release notes in the document package delivered with the software version of the multi-mode base station.

If ALM-26277 Inter-System Control Rights Conflict is reported, run the SET BTSLOADCTRL command to set loading control rights. For details, see section "7.6 How Do I Grant or Cancel Loading Control Rights in GSM Mode?".

5.4 Analyzing Performance CountersAfter a version upgrade is complete, measure performance counters for more than two measurement periods during busy hours. One measurement period usually lasts for one hour or half an hour. Compare statistics of the performance counters with statistics of those measured during the same period of time one week before the upgrade. If statistics of the performance counters do not fluctuate noticeably, this upgrade is successful. The performance counters are as follows:

1. Traffic volume (difference not more than 15%): Traffic Volume on TCH, Throughput of Downlink GPRS RLC Data Blocks, and Throughput of Downlink EGPRS RLC Data Blocks

2. Call setup success rate (difference not more than 5%): TCH Seizure Requests (Traffic Channel), Failed TCH Seizures due to Busy TCH (Traffic Channel), and Successful TCH Seizures (Traffic Channel)

3. Call drop rate (difference not more than 0.4%): Call Drops on Traffic Channel, Call Drops due to Equipment Failure (Traffic Channel), Call Drop Rate on TCHF per cell, and Call Drop Rate on TCHH per cell

4. Handover success rate (difference not more than 1%): Success Rate of Incoming Internal Inter-Cell Handovers, Success Rate of Outgoing Internal Inter-Cell Handovers, and Successful TCH Seizures in TCH handovers (Traffic Channel)

5. Congestion rate (difference not more than 5%): Failed TCH Seizures in TCH Handovers due to Busy TCH (Traffic Channel), Congestion Rate on SDCCH per CELL (due to Busy), Failed SDCCH Seizures due to Busy SDCCH, and Congestion Rate on TCH (All Channels Busy)

6. Assignment success rate (difference not more than 2%): Successful Downlink Assignment Rate and Successful Uplink Assignment Rate

6 Version Rollback

If the network malfunctions after the upgrade or the KPIs after the upgrade do not meet the operator's requirements, roll back the version and report the event to Huawei.

For a multi-mode base station, if multiple modes that have been upgraded to the target versions need to be rolled back, roll back all the modes to the source versions.

On the M2000 client, click and select the NE, then run the DSP BTSSWRBKCAP command to check whether a fast version rollback can be implemented. If the result shows that there is a software version that can be rolled back, perform the steps described in section 6.1 "Performing a Fast Version Rollback." If there is no version that can be rolled back, perform the steps described in section 6.2 "One-Click Rollback."

If network reconfiguration is required after the upgrade is complete, contact Huawei for technical support before performing the version rollback.

V100R013 supports the integrity protection of BTS software function, but V100R009 and V100R012 do not support the integrity protection of BTS software function. When rolling V100R013 back to V100R009 or V100R012, ensure that the integrity protection of BTS software function is disabled. Otherwise, the rollback fails. Run the MML command SET BTSDIGSIGN to set the integrity protection of BTS software function.

Before performing fast version rollback, run the MML command LST CMCTRLSW to check whether configuration management control switch on the BSC is enabled. If the switch is enabled, fast version rollback will fail. Therefore, before fast version rollback, run the SET CMCTRLSW command to disable the configuration management control switch.

Fast version rollback is faster than one-click version rollback because loading software is not required during fast version rollback. To perform a fast version rollback, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Log in to M2000 client, and then choose Software > NE Upgrade Task Management > NE Upgrade Task. The NE Upgrade Task tab page is displayed.

Step 2 On the displayed NE Upgrade Task tab page, click Create in the upper left corner. On the displayed list, select GBTS.

Step 3 In the displayed GBTS-NE Upgrade Wizard dialog box, set the rollback parameters, as shown in Figure 6-1.

1. Task Name: enter a task name.

2. Upgrade Type: select Rollback.

3. NEs to Be Selected: select NE(s) whose version is to be rolled back.

When rolling back the version of a single BTS, search the NE by entering the NE name. When rolling back the version of BTSs in batches, select BSC, Connection Status, NE Type, and Multi-mode to categorize the BTSs.

CAUTIONWhen rolling back upper-level and lower-level BTSs in cascaded mode on the M2000, if the upper-level BTS is rolled back and reset first, the communication between the lower-level BTS and the M2000 is interrupted. Therefore, the M2000 shows that the lower-level BTS fails to be rolled back due to timeout. The lower-level BTS, however, is actually rolled back successfully. To avoid this problem, it is recommended that you roll back cascaded BTSs one by one.
