BUS : Fleet of 545 buses
480 equipped for people with reduced mobility (88%)
248 buses are fueled with Natural Gaz (46%)
 1223 drivers (bus and tram)
3 bus depots : Langlade, Atlanta and En Jacca (new)
79 lines with 5 main lines covering 30% of bus trips
The stakes in terms of energy consumption, CO2 related emissions, and image :
441 standard buses x 45 litres/100 km x 40 000 km/year = 8 millions litres/year
82 articulated buses x 58,5 litres/100 km x 40 000 km/year = 2 millions litres/year
22 midi/minibus
Consumption: 10 millions litres of diesel a year – Economy target: 66% - 6,6 millions litres a year - 7 millions euros/year
CO2 emissions: 1,47 kg/km for standard buses ; 1,9 kg/km for articulated buses
Emissions: 32 100 tons – Reduction target: 66% - 21 120 tons of CO2 saved per year
(Current market available state-of-the-art hybrid bus: 30% reduction of CO2 emissions)
High public exposition : 40% of the PT travellers use the bus everyday + residents
A growing market

Why a partnership between SAFRA and Tisséo ?
An innovative initiative of a local industrial (Midi-Pyrenees)
A past / present shared vision in the field of bus and rail renovation
An interest and a support of Tisséo as a demonstration site

Why is Tisséo interested in BUSINOVA ?
Tisséo has been aware of the BUSINOVA project of SAFRA since March 2011 and has shown interest in this innovative project.
 Environmentally friendly:
- Reducing dramatically energy consumption, CO2 and local emissions and noise, (registered as "electric“)
- Offering a range of 200 km thanks to its new hybrid system
Large capacity, close to a standard bus capacity
Creation of a bus with a new design:
- Comfortable, new space occupation (surface fully occupied) and electrochrome glass
- Attractive design
- Power plant facilitating maintenance
 Lower operating costs:
- Cheap to run, longer lifecycle, limited maintenance

State of the art with electric/hybrid buses
• ZEV city bus, low
capacity and short
running time
• Hybrid bus (combustion
& electric engine) by
major constructors -
30% fuel economy , 12
metre long vehicles

Energeticpack
Energeticpack
Due to the weight of the power pack,
Safra has used a new patentedstructural design
The power pack is towed under the
rear of the vehicle, resulting in :
- 20% vehicle weight reduction, 10
tonnes without passengers
- Capacity of 90 passengers for a 10 m
bus
1st innovation : bi-modular chassis
BUSINOVA : a unique breakthrough project on the bus market

BUSINOVA : a unique breakthrough project on the bus market
Page 14
Conférence POLIS, Perugia – 30/11/2012
BUSINOVA : the results expected
 Vacuous weight 20% lower
 Vehicle surface fully occupied
 Range of 200 km
Consumption of fuel three times lower than a conventional
bus (15L/100 km)
Mass transfer through the articulation on the drive axle enabling energy recycling when braking

Assessment of the experiment and benefits for public transport usersand inhabitants
Operating BUSINOVA on several regular lines of the Tisséo urban transport network
Enabling to verify :- the expected energy savings / measurement of polluting emissions- the positive impact on the urban environment through the seasons
Requiring the measurement and the collection of results, through an objective methodology in relation with the 4 following areas:
Environmental savings :- Measurement of power consumption
- Measurement of fuel consumption
- Operation under different weather conditions
- Measurement of noise emissions
BUSINOVA: foreseen benefits and evaluation
Page 16
Conférence POLIS, Perugia – 30/11/2012
User satisfaction:
- Perception of the visual identity of the vehicle
- Measurement of the perception of dynamic comfort
- Measurement of the room comfort: noise, vibration, thermal comfort, lighting comfort
- New services (if possible): on-board information, Wifi
Driver satisfaction:- Measurement of the perception of dynamic comfort
- Measurement of the perception of the ergonomy of the driving position
- Measurement of the room comfort: noise, vibration, thermal comfort, lighting comfort
Operating costs:- Approaching the availability rate and maintenance prescription to achieve the
maximum rates
- Checking the compatibility of the fleet existing maintenance equipment with those needed for interventions on BUSINOVA (drum bridges, scissor lift)
- Refining the optimization rules of hybridization parameters according to lines
typology
- Evaluating ownership costs within the meaning of the EU Directive
BUSINOVA: foreseen benefits and evaluation
