    DO YOU KNOW?

    Every year we throw away 50 billion food & drink

    cans,27 billion glass bottles and jars,65 million plastic

    & metal jar and can covers.

    More than 30% of our waste is packaging materials.

    85% of our garbage is sent to dump,or landfill where

    it takes 100 to 400 years for things like clothes &

    aluminum to decompose.

    Glass has been found in perfect condition after even

    4,000 years in earth!

    waste is comes from

    Kitchen.

    Another one third isin the form of one

    third of the Paper.

    Rest of one third is in

    RECYCLING OF PAPER

    Procedure of paper recycling:-

    #Paper is sorted by type & sentto a paper mill.

    #Hydrapupler cooks the paperuntil it is thick soup of

    fibres. Detergents &chemicals remove inks &paper becomes pulp.

    #Impurities are removed byseries of washers.

    #Pulp is bleached with Cl to

    make it white & washedagain.

    #Machine rolls out pulp &dries new paper.

    #Paper is cut to size , wrapped& shipped.

    RECYCLING OF GLASS

    Procedure to recycle glass:-

    Imp actor crushes glass intochunks of broken or wasteglass,3/4inch in diameter.

    Cullet is dropped into weighingbin along with ingredients tomake new glass.

    It is put into furnace, whichmelts it into a thick syrup at2800 F.

    Syrup flows out of furnace intoan automatic feeder ,where it iscut into bottle size portions.

    Bottle size portions flow down achute into molds, where they

    are shaped & cooled.

    RECYCLING OF METAL Procedure of Aluminum/

    METAL recycling :-

    Juice & soda cans aresmashed & cut into dimesize shreds.

    Shreds are placed in gaspowered Al furnace,making liquid metal.

    Liquid flows into moldsthat form ingots or barsof metal.

    Rollers squeeze the ingotsinto sheets for new cans.

    Sheets are rolled in tocoils & sent to a plantwhere they are shaped into

    cans again.

    RECYCLING OF KITCHEN

    WASTE

    PROCEDURE FORRECYCLING OFITCHEN WASTE:

    Dig a pit.

    Put the kitchen waste in thispit.

    Cover the pit .

    Waste changes into thecompost after few days dueto action of bacteria whichdecompose it.

    This compost is a very goodmanure & can be used in thefields, gardens etc.

    Recycling 1 ton of paper saves 17 trees &7,000 gallons of water.

    Recycling 1 Aluminum can saves enoughelectricity to run a TV for three hrs.

    Recycling 1 glass bottle or jar saves enoughelectricity to light a 100-watt bulb for four hrs.

    Recycling 1 ton of plastic saves the equivalentof 1,000-2,000 gallons of gasoline.

    More than 30 million trees are cut down toproduce a years supply of newspapers.
