men embracing thewritten by brian bedell
What is the Groom Shower?
The groom shower, or man shower as it is
known in some circles, has been developing
over the past few years. As recent as 2006,
Lowe’s Home Improvement started offering
gift registry, which suggests that more men
are getting involved in their weddings. Along
with more involvement comes more of a
feeling that men should be given gifts as well.
The groom shower is a great way for a groom
to celebrate and receive some additional gifts.
It is not all about the gifts. The groom shower
is also a great excuse for grooms to blow off
some steam. Since it is more common for
guys to do just as much of the planning as
the brides, stress more of a factor than ever.
Having a way to celebrate and have fun
rather than being serious about the wedding
gives guys a great way to relax a little bit.
Is the Groom Shower for All Guys?
Some guys are still apprehensive about
the idea about having a party centered
around the wedding. This mentality is
fading almost as quickly as the feeling
that a guy should have nothing to do with
the wedding. Even those slow to embrace
the idea of picking out florists can see
the value in celebrating a union that may
be a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Guys who are thinking about having a
groom shower can book a special venue,
go to a dinner or simply have the guys over
to the ‘man cave’. The choice of how to
celebrate being a groom is up to the indi-
vidual. Maintaining masculinity is impor-
tant to enjoy the party as much as possible.
So, invite your groomsmen and other guys
to join you in celebrating your union.
groom showerWedding showers have always been a big deal for brides, but there is little celebration for the groom. Lost in the fuss of the wedding planning, many guys have felt marginalized over the years. Thus, the groom shower concept was born.

They are hot in those big and booming cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, so, of course, Atlanta is next on the list for this fabulous new bridal trend — the braid bar. Yes, braids.
As you have probably noticed, braids have
transformed from those awful looks you
sported in grade school into classy, fashion-
forward styles that women love. Low mainte-
nance, but still stylish, braids have sprung up
everywhere from the office to the red carpet.
Due to the high demand that they have
received for braided looks, salons have begun
offering braid bars for their customers. Simi-
lar to the beauty bar, the braid bar allows
guests to experience the full salon service of
having their hair washed and dried, but with
the fun bonus of choosing from a catalogue
of great braided styles, such as cord braids,
fishtail braids, waterfall braids, French braids,
and much more.
With the popular success, these braid bars are
making another transition out of the salon
and into the world of brides. E! News host,
Catt Sadler, featured a fabulous braid bar at
her bridal shower, but this hot trend is not
limited to the rich and famous; braid bars
are a fun addition to any bridal shower or
bachelorette party. What’s not to love about
receiving a great hairstyle while chatting with
your closest girls before a night out on the
town or before your big day?
Stepping out of the box and thinking of new
and fun activities for your bridal shower or
bachelorette party can be difficult and ex-
pensive. The braid bar is an easy way to keep
your guests entertained and occupied that
does not require a six figure wedding budget.
Services often start at $30 per service, but,
of course, prices vary by area and salon. To
get in on this trend and provide your guests
with a great time, call your local salon and
get started!

If anyone knows how to add a modern,
yet feminine edge to any bridal look, it’s
definitely Jessica Gallo, owner of Fine &
Fleurie. Since falling in love with fiber arts
and luxurious fabrics after interning with a
fiber artist in 2008, Jessica has been design-
ing custom accessory pieces for brides and
has certainly made a name for herself among
brides and wedding professionals. With
gorgeous custom veils, headpieces, jewelry,
and belts, Fine & Fleurie takes beautiful to
a whole new level. Know especially for their
use of silk fabrics, Swarovski rhinestones,
pops of color, and modern style, Fine &
Fleurie knows how to accessorize a bride.
The attention to detail, the willingness to
listen to brides, and the keen eye adding
the perfect touch to a bride’s personal style
instantly draws you to Fine & Fleurie and the
work. Fine and Fleurie is top-notch and has
undoubtedly found a fan in Oh-Brides.
When asked about her inspiration and what
she loves most about designing, Jessica’s pas-
sion for creating the perfect piece for a bride
to wear on her wedding day is clear: “I love
being able to create every single day. I also
love being able to conceptualize a product
and then actually put it into motion. It’s so
satisfying to see something I’ve worked so
hard to create on a bride. It is one of the
most special days in a woman’s life and I’m
honored each time someone chooses Fine &
Fleurie for her big day!” This is the kind of
individual that brides love working with on
a personal basis, and the gorgeous finished
product that Fine & Fleurie provides to it’s
brides just adds to the complete experience.
From the very first contact a bride makes
with Fine & Fleurie it is all about com-
munication and providing her with exactly
what she envisions for her perfect wedding
day. Jessica explains that “Fine & Fleurie
products are handmade and each is created
upon order. This process means there is lots
of communication between the bride and
myself and I think this is really special. I’m
constantly inspired by interesting materi-
als, vintage finds and of course, my client’s
requests!”
We don’t think it needs to be said, but Fine
& Fleurie is a pleasure to work with and, of
course, the work is stunning. Just look at the
gorgeous work featured on this page and
throughout our fashion section! Take our
advice; let Fine & Fleurie create a custom
piece for you. What’s not to love about wear-
ing a custom piece on your wedding day?

DESIGNIn this shoot, everything that glitters is gold!
Nothing speaks glamorous more than gold
and black. I chose the color gold because it
is regal and signifies rich opulence. Black is
sleek and sophisticated so it was the perfect
compliment to my metallic palette for this
modern glam shoot. And, you can't have
glam without a little sparkle and glitter.
Many brides are afraid to use black because
of its dark tones. So, I wanted to show brides
how to use black as a chic & stylish pop of
color for their wedding.

DESIGNPaying close attention to the fashion and
interior design industry, this modern tabl-
escape was bathed in rich fabrics featuring
luxurious magenta coupled with slate gray
and dazzling metallic silver accents. The
table linens and chair designs were cus-
tomized by Alisa Smalls, lead designer of
Perfect Creations, and used dramatically to
create layers of detail that made the table
glamourous. Several candle variations and
dozens of white lush roses, orchids and
callas dripping in crystals were created in
designer silver, metallic and mosaic silver
containers and lined along the length of the
table to create a dreamy yet sophisticated
tablscape. The natural setting was choosen
to allow the floral designs, candles, glassware
and silverware to really pop. Silver accents
coupled with the rich fabrics and colors
elevated the overall look while maintaining
the fresh, modern and glamourous look.

DESIGNI was thrilled when Oh-Brides Magazine
invited me to create a tablescape to help ring
in the New Year with modern glam and a
fresh eye towards the spring. These days, the
table is no longer approached as a generic
white canvas predictably dotted with a splash
of floral color in the center. Brides are opting
for intimate stories to share with their guests
and a thoughtfully designed table can do that.
To me, the term modern implies clean lines
and fresh minimalism. Modern does not
need to be cold or harsh. I chose a simple
and timeless color palette of gold and white
with just a hint of light blue as seen in the
tablecloth, the chevron rug and the succu-
lents. The varying heights of the vases and
candles create visual interest and movement
on the table with the playful gold and white
paper lanterns above. Succulents, lately have
been stealing the show in bridal bouquets
and arrangements and their varied blue,
gray, green colors make excellent alterna-
tives to traditional greenery. The crisp white
and pale robin's egg blue with the glint of
gold reminds me of sunlight reflecting off
snow surrounded by a big beautiful blue sky.
Those are my favorite winter days of all.
