YEAR 2017
THEME: THE FAITHFUL GOD DEUT. 7:9
God's choosing of Israel was motivated by His love for them (Deut, 7:7-8). Moreover, God promised to faithfully keep His covenant and show mercy to generation after generation of “them that love him and keep his commandments” (cf 6:4-9). Not only was God's love contingent upon this response of love and obedience, but also their prosperity (v13-14), good health, (v15), and military success (v 16). God promises to keep His commitments to His people “for a thousand generations” (Deut 7:9). He reminds them that He didn't free them because they deserved it or because they were the largest nation on earth, but because He loved them. Many people are facing hardships. You may be one of them. In fact, may be life itself has been nothing but one, long grueling hardship for you for as long as you can remember. I pray that something in this writing, and indeed, in the course of discussing the theme of the year, might bring some comfort for you. There is little else in life that hurts as deeply as feeling as though God is not faithful. Let's address the very MOST important issue regarding God's faithfulness. The Hebrew word translated “faithfulness” means “Steadfastness, firmness, fidelity.” The opposite of being faithful is to be ever. Changing or wishy-washy. Faithfulness is an attribute of God. He is the definition of faithfulness in a sense. It is the nature of God to be faithful and He is. Faithfulness is therefore a characteristic of the body of Christ and one that all Christians should have and practice. Why should Christians or anyone for that matter, obey God? Why should we trust God and do what He says? The answer to these and similar questions is simply that God is faithful. Because God is faithful, we van trust Him and therefore obey Him. We are confident in the times of trouble because we known that God is faithful. The promises of God are real and his faithfulness will never fail us. We have nothing to fear as believers because the power of God is always with us. Yet those words may ring hollow when you are in a crisis situation. You may be dealing with a serious illness for which there is no cure. You may be struggling with financial difficulties and don't know where to turn. You may be suffering the pain of a broken marriage or relationship and have lost all hope for the future. Whatever the struggle, it can be hard to stand in your faith when your circumstance seems hopeless. We read in proverbs 24:10, “if you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength;” The truth is that those who believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ have limitless power to defect anything that comes against them. In I John 5:4, we are told that everyone born of God overcomes the world. The forces of evil cannot conquer a child of God. The devil himself knows that he is unable to harm a hair on your head, but only what God permits. And God will only allow that struggle or pain for which He has prepared in advance to bring you through to victory. Each trial we endure is permitted to help us to develop the perseverance that we need to stay strong in this life so that our faith may be proved genuine. Christ did not suffer and die to lose the battle. His death paid the price for our victory and it cannot be taken from us. It does not matter what trouble you may be experiencing, God is willing and able to bring you through it. He alone can turn a painful situation into something that will be used for good with a reward that will last forever. Here then, is the crux of the whole matter; What God is looking for are people who will be faithful to HIM! especially in the midst of their trials, like Job was. God may allow you to stay in the painful place you are in emotionally (and may be physically) until you determine within yourself to declare that God is faithful to me, and that's the beginning and the ending of the matter!
GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
1. Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not; as thou hast been thou forever will be.
Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
2. Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

BIBLE STUDY 9.00 A.M. – 9.45 A.M
SUNDAY AFTER ASCENSION
28TH MAY, 2017. Theme: Divine Means Of Healing Topic: Requisite Attributes Text: II Chron. 7:12, 14; Joel 2:12-14. Aim: i) Appreciate the requirements for healing of our land ii) Thirst after and develop such requirements.
Introduction Under this sub-theme, we will see the different means God has used to heal lands that were cursed or had been under siege. Sometimes, God acted directly without partnering with man. He simply acted in response to prayers alone or even without prayers. But at other times, He expected and waited for corresponding acts of faith to be done by men to match their prayers. God is ready to heal our land but there are more conditions to be met. There are things God expects from us, if our land will be healed.
We will see in today’s study certain attributes of man that attracted divine response. It is expected that these will challenge us to develop such essential attributes. The hands we lift in prayers must be holy; and there should also be humility and sincerity.
Study Guide 1a. What do we need to have divine healing in Joel 2:12-14 and II Chron. 7:12-14? b. Why do these attributes move God readily. Psa. 34:18; Isa. 66:2. 2. Highlight and discuss the place and impact of human attributes in securing divine intervention from II Chron. 12:12; 32:26; I Kings. 21:29, Ezek. 14:12-18; Psa. 51:17. 3. Why must we possess these desired attributes? Psa. 51:17; Hab. 1:13; Matt. 5:8; I Cor. 9:26, 27; I Peter 5:5. 4a. The Father always heard Jesus’ prayers (John 11:42). Why was this so Phil 2:5-8; John 5:30; 14:30? b. How may we follow in His footsetps so as to deliver our country?
Conclusion Righteousness has a great effect. It speaks for the righteous; it attracts heaven’s attention and goodwill; it is a defense to the righteous against prevailing disasters. God desires all men to lift up holy hands in prayers. As you seek deliverance for Nigeria, seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness in your life, your family and country.
Food For Thought When people meet God’s requirements, divine power release solutions to men’s and nation’s problems.
Memory Verse - Isa. 66:2.

TODAY’S MEDITATION
THE HOLY SPIRIT, THE INDIVIDUAL
AND THE CHURCH Text: Eph. 4:3-6 “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit –just as you were called to one hope when you were called – One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” The gift of the Holy Spirit is the power of a new life. It is the first installment of a life long process of transformation into the likeness of Christ (Eph. 1:13), The first fruit of harvest of righteousness (Gal 5:16), Through the Holy Spirit life is therefore qualitatively different after conversion, becoming a daily response to the Spirits claim through His power in a personal relationship with God (Rom. 8), This process is not complete until Christ returns, that is why there is conflict in this life between the claims of the Spirit and the longings of the Old Nature (Rom. 7:14). The Common participation in the Spirit makes a group of diverse individuals – The Church, one body in Christ (I Cor. 12:13). The Body can only grow in maturity as each members lets the Spirit be expressed through them in word and deed (Eph. 4:3). The Spirit reveals God’s new truth in Continuity with the old (Jn. 14:26, 16:12). Through the Spirit Jesus is present to the individual believer hence the mark of the spirit is to recognize Jesus’ status (I Cor. 12:3, I Jn 5:6) and to reproduce His character in our daily life (2 Cor. 3:18). The Church, however, cannot coerce the world (Jn 18:11). The Church’s message is that God regenerate sinners and adds them to the body of Christ. If genuine conversion is prerequisite to membership in the Church, then such transformation cannot be forced. The Church testifies to the sovereignty of God through the persuasive power of the preached word. Sinners are cut to the heart, regenerated and rescued from the domain of darkness (Col. 1:13). The Holy Spirit role in the Church is obvious as nothing positive could be achieved without him. He works in the individual and collectively as Church. Its our prayer that God will continue to manifest His power in our church everyday in Jesus name. Have a blessed week. C.E.O Your friend & Vicar.
