B IBLE STUDY

9 .0 0 A.M. - 9 .4 5 A.M.

Sub-Theme:2 – GODLY LEADERSHIP.Topic: Essence and expectations.Text: Titus 1: 5-9.Aim: To

i. understand the meaning of ‘essence and expectations of godly leadership’;

ii. discover the essence of godly leadership andiii. enumerate the expectations from godly leaders.

INTRODUCTION‘Essence’ is the basic or inherent nature of a thing or idea. It is also the significant feature of something; while ‘expectation’ is that which people look for in a person or thing. There are significant features associated with godly leadership that people look out for (i.e. expect) in their leaders. These are usually the desires of followers. Even the nations that do not fear God love to enjoy the fruit of godly leadership.

STUDY GUIDE:1a) Explain, in your own words, ‘essence’ and ‘expectations’ of

godly leadership?b) Using our texts, discuss the essence and expectations of some

leaders in the Bible.2. Identify and discuss some significant features that portray the

worth of a leadership that is truly godly fromExod.18:21; Jos. 1:6- 9; Acts 6:3-4; Titus 1:5-9; Heb. 5:1,2.

3. Enumerate some expectations of followers from godly leaders. Jos. 1:17b; 1 Sam. 12:3-5; I Cor.4:1-2.

4. How can we therefore promote godly leadership?

CONCLUSION: Godly leadership is adire need in all levels of human endeavour. Those who occupy leadership positions should keep in mind that they are adjudged godly leaders only as they sustain the features associated with godly leadership and meet the basic expectations of their followers.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Those who occupy leadership positions

need to show its essence practically in order to meet expectations.

EXPRESS YOUR LOVE FOR JESUS.

A very great multitude spread their clothes on the road. Others cut branches from the trees, and spread them on the road. The multitudes who went in front of Him and those who followed, kept shouting “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest” Matt. 21:8&9.

A Christian song goes thus Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna in the highest, the angels are singing, Hosanna in the highest”. This chorus is in line with what happened in our text. Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem for the feast. He was riding on a donkey’s colt and people expressed their love for Him in diverse ways. Some took branches of palm trees to meet Jesus. Others called Him the King of Israel. Many were excited being in the company of Jesus Christ as He fulfilled what was prophesied of Him by Zechariah “Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King comes to you! He is righteous, and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey”

We need to celebrate Jesus. We need to know Him as our Lord and King. Let us

sing and praise the Lord Jesus and express our love to Him by living holy and

Supporting the gospel of Christ by giving our time, talent and treasure to Him.

From our text Matt 21:1-12 the entry of Jesus to Jerusalem as a King is very significant for the following.

It shows the Lordship of Jesus over all, man and all creatures. The colt was a noble animal, used by Kings and their emissaries. When Kings entered a city in peace, they rode a colt to symbolize the peaceful intention (Judges 5:10, 10:4) But when a King entered a city as a conqueror, he rode a stallion. Jesus was demonstrating two things a. His coming was not a leader of the peopleb. His coming not as a leader of any

army to kill, injured and maim, but as the savior of all Men, as of peace, as God of love and reconciliation.

Jesus as messiah came to save the world by the gospel

of love. Let us win the world by the love of Christ. CHURCH OFFICERS / CLERGY
