The Lord commands us to “confident-ly approach the

throne of grace to receive mercy and favor and to find help in time of need” (Heb 4:16). When we do this, however, we should try to understand the im-plications of what we are asking (Mk 10:38). If we ask for many to be justi-fied and saved, we are also asking that we share in Christ’s redemptive sufferings (Is 53:11; Col 1:24). If we pray for the will of the Lord to be ac-complished through us, we are also asking for the grace to give our lives as offerings for sin (Is 53:10). If we ask to be great and do great things for God’s kingdom, we are also praying to be the servants, even the slaves,

A LIFE WORTHLIVING

of all (Mk 10:43-44).When we pray the “Our

Father,” the general in-tercessions at Mass, or other prayers, the Lord will question us before answering our prayers. He asks: “Can you drink the cup I shall drink or be baptised in the same bath of pain as I?” (Mk 10:38) How will we answer? Prayer and pain often go together. Look at Jesus, the crucified Intercessor. Considering the fact that prayer is often done in the shadow of the cross, it’s no wonder that so few pray seriously and power-fully. Do we love others so much that we will not only pray for them but also suffer with Jesus for them? Will you drink the cup?

NIEDZIELNA REFLEKSJA NAD SŁOWEM BOŻYM ...

“Majestat pokory”Zdumiewający tupet

okazali dwaj synowie Zebedeusza, gdy przed-stawili prośbę by w chwale Mistrza jeden z nich siedział po prawej a drugi po lewej stro-nie. Szokuje sama prośba świadcząca o nieo-panowanej ambicji braci i szokuje sposób, w jaki proszą. „Chcemy, żebyś nam uczynił to, o co Cię poprosimy”. Słowo „chcemy” świadczy wyraźnie o próbie „wy-muszenia” na Jezusie re-alizacji prośby. To już nie prośba, to jest żądanie. Ta historia z Janem i jego bratem Jakubem często się powtarza. Wielu pod-chodzi do Boga nie z prośbą, lecz z żądaniem. Z Ewangelii dowiadu-jemy się, że Bóg zawsze traktuje człowieka jak swego przyjaciela. Tym-czasem człowiek ma ten-dencje do sprowadzania Boga do roli swego sługi. Rodzi się więc ta ten-dencja w sercu nadętym pychą. Człowiekowi się wydaje, że im częściej

wydaje rozkazy, tym jest ważniejszy. Im więcej ludzi jest do jego dys-pozycji, tym większa jego wartość. Człowiek jednak nigdy nie będzie sobą, jeśli stara się realizować życie w gar-niturze o dwa numery dla niego za dużym. Prawdziwa wielkość umie zająć właściwe miejsce. Każdy z nas ma przygotowane miejsce przez Boga zarówno tu na ziemi, jak i w nie-bie. To drugie jest ściśle uzależnione od postawy, jaką zajmiemy wobec miejsca przygotowanego na ziemi. Jeśli potrafimy je przyjąć z radością i zrealizować życie tak, jak zaplanował Bóg, to i w przyszłym życiu odnajdziemy je w pełni. Ten, komu nie odpowi-ada, jako zbyt niskie lub zbyt wysokie miejsce wyznaczone na ziemi, nie będzie szczęśliwy ani tu, ani tam. Jakże często Jezus musiałby nam powiedzieć: „Nie wiecie, o co prosicie”. Nasze modlitwy przypominają często żądanie synów Zebedeusza. Chcemy, by Bóg spełniał naszą wolę. Śmieszy jest człowiek, który podchodzi do Boga z żądaniem. Zdradza w tym swoją głupotę. Gdyby pamiętał, kim jest Bóg, nigdy nie uczyniłby takiego nietak-tu. Kobieta licząca blisko pięćdziesiąt lat odkryła, iż wszystkie nieszczęścia w jej życiu, a było ich sporo, wynikały z tego, że zmuszała Boga, by spełniał jej życzenia. Gdy się to nie stało, miała do Niego wielkie pretensje, a gdy się stało, okazywało się, że wychodziło to jej na niekorzyść. Stra-cone dziecko, rozbite małżeństwo, nieudane związki, konflikt z rodzicami, ciągłe po-szukiwanie innej pracy, choroba… Zmęczona swoim życiem odkryła, że najmądrzejszym rozwiązaniem jest zgoda

na to, co daje Bóg. Dziś prosi Go o wiele rzeczy, lecz dodaje: „nie moja, lecz Twoja wola niech się stanie”. Dostrzegła mądrość Boga i korzyści, jakie daje zgoda na Jego wolę. Tysiąc razy lepiej poprosić Boga o coś do zjedzenia, niż stawiać żądania co do swojego menu. Pokora polega na dobrowolnym zajęciu tego miejsca, jakie Bóg nam wyznaczył. Św. Augustyn napisał trafnie: „gdzie pokora, tam majestat. Miejsce wyznaczone nam przez Boga jest zawsze otoc-zone majestatem Jego autorytetu. Ten, kto je dobrowolnie zajmie, odkrywa na nim swoja prawdziwą wielkość.

Październik – Miesiąc poświęcony NMP Różańcowej Cd. rozważania o różańcu: Ojciec Święty Paweł VI nazwał różaniec „streszczeniem Ewangelii” i wskazywał na „ewangeliczną naturę różańca”. W tajemni-cach różańcowych mamy zawarte życie i naukę Chrystusa Pana i Jego Matki. Zwracał uwagę na to, że różaniec nie sprzeci-wia się świętej liturgii, liturgia go przewyższa, ale on uzupełnia liturgię i przygotowuje do liturgii. Zatem błądzą ci, którzy chcieliby różaniec usunąć z życia Kościoła. Już samo słowne odmawianie „Ojcze nasz”, „Zdrowaś Maryjo” i „Chwała

Elżbiety, druga część „Święta Maryjo” to pokorna prośba Kościoła. Dok-sologia „Chwała Ojcu” jest modlitwą uwiel-bienia Boga, w Trójcy Świętej jedynego. Istotę dobrze odmawianego różańca stanowi jednak: 1. Rozważanie tajemnic zbawczych, 2. Zasto-sowanie rozważanych prawd w codziennym życiu, 3. Intencja w której odmawiamy różaniec. Rozważanie tajemnic życia Jezusa i Maryi, ich radości i smutków, ich słów i sposobu działania jest dla nas szkołą życia, wskazówką jak mamy postępować w różnych okolicznościach naszego osobistego i społecznego życia. W ten sposób do-chodzimy do zastosow-ania prawd rozważanych w tajemnicach różańca. Cdn. Odmawia-jmy różaniec, to jakże piękne i bogate w łaski nabożeństwo w tym szc-zególnym miesiącu Mar-yjnym. Polski Różaniec w każdy piątek o godz. 7pm.

Listopad – „Wypominki za zmarłych”

Jak to bywa co roku Msze św. za zmarłych poleconych przez was w wypominkach będą odprawiane przez cały miesiąc listopad. Pros-imy o zabranie ze sobą kopert z przedsionka kościoła, wypisanie drog-ich zmarłych i zwrócenie tych kopert przed 2 lis-topada. Bóg zapłać za wszystkie złożone przy tej okazji ofiary.

Members and friends are reminded about go-ing to the Mass for the Dead celebrated by Archbishop Tartaglia in St Andrew’s Cathedral in Glasgow on Monday 2nd November. Our bus leaves St John’s at 4pm - with High Tea en route.

Violence, persecution and exodus on Christians in the Middle East

Aid to the Church in Need will next week publish Persecuted and Forgotten? A Report on Christians oppressed for their Faith 2013-15, as-sessing the situation in 22 countries where there are grave violations of religious freedom in-cluding physical attacks, kidnappings and mur-ders.

The report, which will be launched on Tuesday, 13th October, makes a direct comparison with the situation two years ago.

In making its assess-ment, the analysis draws on in-country reports, witness testimonies, in-terviews with bishops, Sisters and lay people.

This research material is compared with evi-dence from NGOs with expertise in the field.

The launch of Perse-cuted and Forgotten? 2013-15 comes at a time of increasing concerns for the future of Christi-anity in parts of the Mid-dle East where numbers have plummeted.

With previously pub-lished research already showing Christianity to be the world’s most persecuted religion, the ACN report will show the growing impact of extremism in Africa, the Asian sub-continent and elsewhere.

Persecuted and For-gotten? 2013-15 also as-sesses the problems fac-ing Christians and other religious minorities in countries such as China and Vietnam where his-torically atheistic re-gimes continue to put pressure on faith groups.

The idea was to in-troduce children to praying the Rosary and to ask them to pray particularly for personal peace and family peace, as well as unity and peace throughout the world.

Aid to the Church in Need has support-

ed this project since 2008 by printing and distributing materi-als, which has helped it to grow from a Venezuelan idea into a worldwide prayer campaign.

Today, children in 38 countries have joined this prayer

campaign and we think it would be great if children in England, Scotland and Wales joined in too.

Children – your children, your grand-children, church groups and schools – can take part by pray-

ing the Rosary at 9am on 18 October each year.

In Perth and Blair-gowrie young peo-ple in the Society of St Vincent de Paul (Minnie Vinnies) are taking part this week. Join your prayers with them.
