L’animal/Animal Matching Game Objective: Students will discover cognates (similar or identical words) of French and English animals while being introduced to a number of animals that live at the Peterborough Riverview Park and Zoo. Resources: 4 or 5 sets of animal word and picture cards - French and English Method: 1. Print and cut out 4 or 5 copies of the French and English Animal Matching Game . 2. Divide class into groups of 4 or 5 students. Each group should have one (1) set of French and English animal name and picture cards. 3. Ask students to match as many French and English names of zoo animals as they can to the best of their ability. 4. Review the correct answers. Help the students recognize the relationship between some animals’ names in French and in English. Indicate that some words are exactly the same in French and English, others are similar, and still others are much different.

L’animal/Animal Matching GameObjective: Students will discover cognates (similar or identical words) of French and English animals while being introduced to a number of animals that live at the Peterborough Riverview Park and Zoo.

Resources: 4 or 5 sets of animal word and picture cards - French and English

Method:1. Print and cut out 4 or 5 copies of the French and English Animal Matching Game .

2. Divide class into groups of 4 or 5 students. Each group should have one (1) set of French and English animal name and picture cards.

3. Ask students to match as many French and English names of zoo animals as they can to the best of their ability.

4. Review the correct answers. Help the students recognize the relationship between some animals’ names in French and in English. Indicate that some words are exactly the same in French and English, others are similar, and still others are much different.

5. Now, ask students to remove the English labels and then have students match each French animal word with the correct animal picture.

6. Review the correct answers and collect the cards.
