Fr. Phil’s article continued on Page 3
Welcome Bishop Fisher!
We want to welcome the Most
Reverend Robert Fisher, auxiliary
bishop of Detroit, to our parishes! He
was ordained a bishop in early 2017
and currently serves as the episcopal
vicar and regional moderator for the
Northeast Region of the Archdiocese.
That’s a huge undertaking! This
Sunday he will be here for our 9:00 am
Mass at St. Augustine and our 10:30
am Mass at Holy Family to install me as
pastor. The bishop has many duties
and responsibilities, and I am most
grateful that he is able to do this for us.
Thank you Your Excellency!
Family Healing Prayer Service
(FHPS) & Spiritual Inventory
Assessment
As I mentioned last week, on the holy
feast of the Archangels, (Tuesday,
29
th
), we will have the Family Healing
Prayer Service. This is markedly
different than other healing services.
Generally healing services involve
individual time of prayer with
designated, trained prayer teams.
Participants share what is happening
in their lives under the umbrella of
confidentiality, and the prayer teams
intercede on behalf of the individual
and pray for the mercy of God and His
Divine Healing.
The Family Healing Prayer Service is
different insofar as it involves more
behind the scenes work of personal
prayer and discernment before taking
part in prayers offered together during
the service. Rather than seeking to
tackle surface issues (those things
that are readily knowable to us: a
particular ache, illness, or perceived
lack of virtue), this seeks to cleanse
the potential root of problems and
issues in our lives.
A mandatory prerequisite to attending the FHPS involves listening/
watching a preparatory talk that explains the foundational principles to
receive family healing in the name of Jesus. It also includes prayerfully
going through a “Spiritual Inventory Assessment” to address four access
points that we may have either knowingly or unknowingly given access
to the enemy. Since we cannot meet in large crowds, an audio/video
file has been made available on our parish website that presents the
talk. The preparatory talk needs to be heard first before filling out the
“Spiritual Inventory Assessment.” The preparatory talk provides a
summary of the five cardinal points for healing. The assessment should be
available for download on the parish website. Copies have also been made
available at each parish office.
Who’s this for? To name a few: anyone looking for healing, seeking to
receive freedom from addiction, wanting to address medical issues,
wanting to break free from knowingly or unknowingly having
involvement with the occult, and those who have been in harmful
relationships. Even those who consider themselves the “black sheep” of
the family should seek this out.
Prayer Request
I ask that all parishioners offer the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for our FHPS
for the following intentions: that all those whom the Lord has invited, be
given the courage and determination to attend; that all those who watch/
listen to the talk may have their hearts open to the grace of God; that all
those involved may find protection through the mantle of Our Lady of
Sorrows; that no retaliating spirits prevail over us; that a full outpouring

RECLAIMING SUNDAY, THE LORD’S DAY!!!
Jesus said to the chief priests and elders of the people: “What is your opinion? A man had two
sons. He came to the first and said, 'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.' He said in
reply, 'I will not,' but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and
gave the same order. He said in reply, 'Yes, sir,' but did not go. Which of the two did his father's
will?” They answered, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and
prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of
righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you
saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him.”

Are you more like the first son or the second son?

"Because Faith is best taught and lived out in the family,
the Church calls parents to be the first and foremost educators of their children."
We know that children are more likely to put into practice the faith they see lived
out day-to-day at home. With this knowledge, St. Augustine and Holy Family
Parishes are moving to a new model of faith formation called Family
Centered Catechesis. For more information and to register, please visit either
parishes’ website (click on the “Get Involved” tab and go down to Faith Formation).
You can also register your children by calling or emailing Susan at either parish.
Are you struggling with addiction? Is there a medical condition found throughout your
family lineage? Have you had some encounter with the occult and desire to be free?
You may benefit from Family Healing. On Tuesday, September 29th, at 7 PM, Holy
Mass will be offered at Holy Family. Immediately after, there will be an opportunity to
pray for healing in the name of Jesus for the family with guided prayer. Those wanting
to receive healing would need to watch a video on either parish website that will
explain what this is all about, including a summary of five cardinal points to receive
healing in our families. There is also the Spiritual Inventory Assessment that would
need to be filled out, prior to our time of prayer together. These will be available in the
parish office.

Good Fats
The 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines does
not encourage a low-fat diet (meaning
low in total fats) — in fact its healthy
eating style examples can contain up to
35% of total calories per day from fat,
while keeping saturated fat consump-
tion to less than 10% of calories per
day. This recommendation is based on
scientific evidence that replacing
saturated fat with unsaturated fats is
associated with reduced risk of
cardiovascular disease. However, it is
important to note that replacing
saturated fat with carbohydrates does
not reduce the risk of cardiovascular
disease.
Replace foods high in saturated
and trans-fat, such as butter, whole
milk, and baked goods with foods
higher in unsaturated fat found in plants
and fish, such as vegetable oils,
avocado, and tuna fish.

With September 17 being Constitution Day, I always
love having the opportunity to discuss the Constitution
with my 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. For some
students, it’s a day for reviewing a past lesson; for
others, it is foreshadowing what they will learn later in
the year. Regardless of how much or how little they’re
familiar with the Constitution, it is always a day that
allows us to truly recognize how our past influences who
we are.
History has always been a passion of mine and I’ve been
fortunate enough to share that passion with others. At
the beginning and end of every school year, I ask every
grade the same question, “Why do we study history?”. I
get many different answers when the question is first
asked, but by the end of the year the answer is the
same, “it impacts who we are”. I make it a goal of mine
to help them see that it will also impact who we will be.
It’s not always easy to get teenagers of 2020 engaged in
events that took place hundreds or thousands of years
ago, but I always look forward to the jaw-dropping
moments that lead to their own passionate discussions
on a topic. Through their projects, debates, and shocked
classroom reactions, it is amazing to witness the instant
they recognize the significance and value of what our
ancestors have lived through, accomplished, and taught
us.
So on September 17, a few things happen in the class-
room as we dive deeper into our nation’s laws and
citizen’s rights. We bring our history into the modern day
by recognizing how a document from 1787 is relevant to
our lives in 2020. We show thanks for the many
freedoms and blessings God has provided us. And of
course, it can’t be Constitution Day without singing the
Preamble loudly and proudly (thanks SchoolHouse
Rock)!
Happy Constitution Day!
