From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places through the

Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time: “Who ever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mark 8:34). When we truly believe that all we have is a gift from God, then we must be willing to give up some things so that we can share our blessings as God intended. Living a stewardship lifestyle means not only being responsible for our own life, but the lives of others as well.

Presider……………………. Fr. Tom Schroer, S.M. Assisting............................. Deacon Greg Cecere Liturgy Planners……………John Fay Music Director……………... Teesie Chandler Interpreter for the Deaf........Susan Fraker Isaiah 50:5-9a: The Prophet is offering himself as an example to the people. He suffered much as God's spokesperson, and he is saying that only by trusting in God can one find true happiness and fulfillment. James 2:14-18: James is giving us another way of looking at suffering and self -denial which is sharing someone else's suffering. Many of us are fortunate to have enough of this world's goods that we do not suffer from lack of food, shelter or clothing; but there are many out in the world that do. If we find ourselves in a position of good health and comfort, then we are obligated to help those less fortunate. Mark 7:27-35: In this passage, Jesus is asking a very important question that all of us must answer: "Who do YOU say that I am? This question is addressed not only to His Apostles and the immediate disciples, but also to us. If we can truthfully answer as Peter does then we are ahead of the pack; but if we hesitate, then we must make up our mind—soon.

SPECIAL VISITOR TODAY: Bishop Martin Anwel Mtumbuka was born on August 5, 1957 in Majimbula Village, Malawi. He was ordained a priest on July 31, 1988. In addition to work as a vicar at the cathedral, he has also served in diocesan minor seminaries and as Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi. He was appointed as the first Bishop of Karonga on July 21, 2010 and was ordained bishop on November 20, 2010. Bishop Mtumbuka will be our special guest on Today. Profession of Faith (Sr. Joan Chittister)

We believe in God who made us all and whose divinity infuses life with the sacred.

We believe in the multiple revelations of God, alive in every human heart, expressed in every culture, found in all the wisdoms of the world.

We believe in Jesus, the Christ, who leads us to the fullness of humanity, to what we are meant to become.

Through Christ, we become new people, called beyond the consequences of our brokenness, lifted to the fullness of life.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the breath of God on earth, who keeps the Christ vision present to souls yet in darkness, gives life to hearts now

blind, infuses energy into spirits yet weary, isolated, searching and confused.

We believe in God who is life. Amen to courage, to hope, to spirit of truth, to nature, to happiness, to wholeness, to the partnership of women and men in God’s plan, to the Christ who calls us beyond the boundaries of ourselves, to forgiveness, and to everything that stretches our hearts to the dimensions of God.

In all of this, we can surely believe, as God does. Amen. Used with Permission

A NOTE ABOUT ABORTION AND RECONCILATION IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF CINCINNATI

Dear Friends in the Media,

Much of the news coverage about Pope Francis extending to all priests the faculty to absolve the sin of abortion and remove the automatic excommunication that can incur has been misleading and confusing.

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati wants to make it clear that our priests have already had this faculty for many years. No one who has received absolution for this sin from a priest of the Archdiocese, acting as the instrument of God's mercy, should doubt the validity of the sacrament.

No priest can engage in sacramental ministry without being granted faculties to do so by the local bishop. What is included in those faculties is detailed in writing. Priests of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, as permitted by canon law, have long been granted by the Archbishop "the faculty to absolve the sin (of abortion) and to remit the (automatic) penalty" of excommunication.

As St. John Paul II assured post-abortive women in his encyclical, The Gospel of Life, "The Father of mercies is ready to give you his forgiveness and his peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation." The Catholic Church also offers compassionate post-abortion healing through Project Rachel (www.projectrachelcincy.com).

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati is the 38th largest Catholic diocese in the country, with almost 500,000 Catholics, and has the sixth largest network of Catholic schools in terms of enrollment. The 19-county territory includes 211 parishes and 111 Catholic primary and secondary schools.

IPERSPECTIVE (Matthew 6:19-120): Do not put your trust in jobs – working 24/7/365 - to store up for yourselves shiny iPads, razor-thin Airbooks, and slick iPhones. I tell you the truth, these toys will be obsolete next year, and thieves are always keen to steal them. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where technology never needs updating and thieves have been transformed into honest people. Computers crash. Apples rot. Jobs end. So, be smart. Think different. Invest in stuff that lasts. (from #Holy Talk by Karl & Lindsey Haffner)

Isaiah 50:4c-9a: This is the 3rd of 4 suffering servant songs that come to us from a disciple of Isaiah. Before Jesus, it was thought to refer to Israel as a people. We have come to apply the passage to the suffering of Jesus who turned out to be a different kind of Messiah.

James 2:1-5: We are called to do serve others (“good works”). But do these “earn” salvation for us? No—salvation is a pure gift. James is saying “faith works.” Faith leads us to a union with God and the Holy Spirit prompts us to all manner of good things.

Mark 7:31-37: This is not a simple gospel. Jesus asks us a very important question. The answer involves not only one who serves, but one who suffers. One like us, who reminds us that the cross in some form is a part of human life.
