You should only use the saw with the bar and chaincombinations we recommend in the chapter Technicaldata.

Do not modify this product or use it if it appears to havebeen modified by others.

Generally clothes should be close-fitting withoutrestricting your freedom of movement.

IMPORTANT! Sparks can come from the muffler, the barand chain or other sources. Always have fireextinguishing tools available if you should need them.Help prevent forest fires.

Machine's safety equipmentIn this section the machine's safety features and theirfunction are explained. For inspection and maintenancesee instructions under the heading Checking, maintainingand servicing chain saw safety equipment. Seeinstructions under the heading, What is what?, to findwhere these parts are located on your machine.

The life span of the machine can be reduced and the riskof accidents can increase if machine maintenance is not

carried out correctly and if service and/or repairs are notcarried out professionally, if you need further informationplease contact your nearest servicing dealer.

A WARNING! Never use a machine with

Chain brake and front hand guard

Your chain saw is equipped with a chain brake that isdesigned to stop the chain if you get a kickback. The chainbrake reduces the risk of accidents, but only you canprevent them.

Take care when using your saw and make sure thekickback zone of the bar never touches any object.

The chain brake (A) can either be activated manually(by your left hand) or automatically by the inertiarelease mechanism. (3)

The brake is applied when the front hand guard (B) ispushed forwards. (3)

This movement activates a spring-loaded mechanismthat tightens the brake band (C) around the enginedrive system (D) (clutch drum). (4)

The front hand guard is not designed solely to activatethe chain brake. Another important feature is that itreduces the risk of your left hand hitting the chain ifyou lose grip of the front handle.

The chain brake must be engaged when the chainsaw is started to prevent the saw chain from rotating.

Use the chain brake as a "parking brake" whenstarting and when moving over short distances, toreduce the risk of moving chain accidentally hittingyour leg or anyone or anything close by.

To release the chain brake pull the front hand guardbackwards, towards the front handle.

Kickback can be very sudden and violent. Mostkickbacks are minor and do not always activate thechain brake. If this happens you should hold the chainsaw firmly and not let go.

The way the chain brake is activated, either manuallyor automatically by the inertia release mechanism,depends on the force of the kickback and the positionof the chain saw in relation to the object that thekickback zone of the bar strikes.

if you get a violent kickback while the kickback zone ofthe bar is farthest away from you the chain brake isdesigned to be activated by the inertia in the kickbackdirection.

if the kickback is less violent or the kickback zone ofthe bar is closer to you the chain brake is designed tobe activated manually by the movement of your lefthand.

in the felling position the left hand is in a position thatmakes manual activation of the chain brake

impossible. With this type of grip, that is when the lefthand is placed so that it cannot affect the movementof the front hand guard, the chain brake can only beactivated by the inertia action. (8)

Will my hand always activate the chainbrake during a kickback?

No. it takes a certain force to move the hand guardforward, if your hand only lightly touches the front guardor slips over it, the force may not be enough to trigger thechain brake. You should also maintain a firm grip of thechain saw handles while working, if you do andexperience a kickback, your hand may never leave thefront handle and will not activate the chain brake, or thechain brake will only activate after the saw has swungaround a considerable distance, in such instances, thechain brake might not have enough time to stop the sawchain before it touches you.

There are also certain positions in which your handcannot reach the front hand guard to activate the chainbrake; for example, when the saw chain is held in fellingposition.

Will my inertia activated chain brakealways activate during kickback in theevent of a kickback?

No. First your brake must be in working order. Testing thebrake is simple, see instructions under the headingChecking, maintaining and servicing chain saw safetyequipment. We recommend you do before you begin eachwork session. Second the kickback must be strongenough to activate the chain brake, if the chain brake istoo sensitive it would activate all the time which would bea nuisance.

Will my chain brake always protect mefrom injury in the event of a kickback?

No. First, the chain brake must be in working order toprovide the intended protection. Second, it must beactivated during the kickback as described above to stopthe saw chain. Third, the chain brake may be activated butif the bar is too close to you the brake might not haveenough time to slow down and stop the chain before thechain saw hits you.

Only you and proper working technique can eliminatekickback and its danger.

Throttle lockout

The throttle lockout is designed to prevent accidentaloperation of the throttle control. When you press the lock(A) (i.e. when you grasp the handle) it releases the throttlecontrol (B). When you release the handle the throttlecontrol and the throttle lockout both move back to theiroriginal positions. This arrangement means that thethrottle control is automatically locked at the idle setting.(5)

Chain catcher

The chain catcher is designed to catch the chain if it snapsor jumps off.This should not happen if the chain isproperly tensioned (see instructions under the headingAssembly) and if the bar and chain are properly servicedand maintained (see instructions under the headingGeneral working instructions).

Right hand guard

Apart from protecting your hand if the chain jumps orsnaps, the right hand guard stops branches and twigsfrom interfering with your grip on the rear handle.

Vibration damping system

Your machine is equipped with a vibration dampingsystem that is designed to reduce vibration and makeoperation easier.

The machine's vibration damping system reduces thetransfer of vibration between the engine unit/cuttingequipment and the machine's handle unit. The body of thechain saw, including the cutting equipment, is insulatedfrom the handles by vibration damping units.

Cutting hardwoods (most broadleaf trees) creates morevibration than cutting softwoods (most conifers). Cuttingwith cutting equipment that is blunt or faulty (wrong typeor badly sharpened) will increase the vibration level.

Stop switch

Use the stop switch to switch off the engine. (28)

Muffler

The muffler is designed to reduce noise levels and todirect exhaust fumes away from the user.

In areas with a hot, dry climate there is a high risk of fires.These areas are sometimes subject to government rulesrequiring among other things the muffler must beequipped with an approved type of spark arrestor screen(A). (7)

CAUTION! The muffler gets very hot during and afteruse. This also applies during idling. Be aware of the firehazard, especially when working near flammablesubstances and/or vapours.

A WARNING! Never use a saw without a

_ uffler, or with a damaged muffler. Adamaged muffler may substantiallyincrease the noise level and the firehazard. Keep fire fighting equipmenthandy. If a spark arrestor screen is

required in your area, never use the sawwithout or with a broken spark arrestorscreen.

Cutting equipmentThis section describes how to choose and maintain yourcutting equipment in order to:

Reduce the risk of kickback.

Reduce the risk of the saw chain breaking or jumpingoff the bar.

Obtain optimal cutting performance.

Extend the life of cutting equipment.

Avoid increasing vibration levels.

General rules

Only use cutting equipment recommended by us!See instructions under the heading Technical data.

Keep the chain's cutting teeth properlysharpened! Follow our instructions and use therecommended file gauge. A damaged or badlysharpened chain increases the risk of accidents.

Maintain the correct depth gauge setting! Followour instructions and use the recommended depthgauge clearance. Too large a clearance increasesthe risk of kickback.

Keep the chain properly tensioned! If the chain isslack it is more likely to jump off and lead to increasedwear on the bar, chain and drive sprocket.

Keep cutting equipment well lubricated andproperly maintained! A poorly lubricated chain ismore likely to break and lead to increased wear on thebar, chain and drive sprocket.

General information on sharpening cutting teeth

By using cutting equipment with "built-in" kickbackreduction and keeping the chain sharp and well-maintained you can reduce the effects of kickback.

Guide bar

The smaller the tip radius the lower the chance ofkickback.

Saw chain

A chain is made up of a number of links, which areavailable in standard and low-kickback versions.

Some terms that describe the bar and chain

To maintain the safety features of the cutting equipment,you should replace a worn or damaged bar or chain witha recommended bar and chain combination.See instructions under the heading TechnicalData for a list of replacement bar and chain combinationswe recommend.

Guide bar

Length (inches/cm)

Number of teeth on bar tip sprocket (T).

Chain pitch (inches). The spacing between the drivelinks of the chain must match the spacing of the teethon the bar tip sprocket and drive sprocket.

Number of drive links. The number of drive links isdetermined by the length of the bar, the chain pitchand the number of teeth on the bar tip sprocket.

Bar groove width (inches/ram). The groove in the barmust match the width of the chain drive links.

Chain oil hole and hole for chain tensioner. The bar

must be matched to the chain saw design.

the wood and the chips will be very small, if the chainis very blunt it will produce wood powder and no chipsor shavings.

. A sharp chain eats its way through the wood andproduces long, thick chips or shavings.

. The cutting part of the chain is called the cutter andconsists of a cutting tooth (A) and the depth gauge(B). The cutters cutting depth is determined by thedifference in height between the two (depth gaugesetting (C)). (9)

When you sharpen a cutting tooth there are four importantfactors to remember.

4 Round file diameter

It is very difficult to sharpen a chain correctly without theright equipment. We recommend that you use our filegauge. This will help you obtain the maximum kickbackreduction and cutting performance from your chain.

See instructions under the heading Technical data forinformation about sharpening your chain.

Sharpening cutting teeth

To sharpen cutting teeth you will need a round file and afile gauge. See instructions under the heading Technicaldata for information on the size of file and gauge that arerecommended for the chain fitted to your chain saw.

Switch the engine off. (28)

. Check that the chain is correctly tensioned. A slackchain will move sideways, making it more difficult tosharpen correctly.

. Always file cutting teeth from the inside face. Reducethe pressure on the return stroke. File all the teeth onone side first, then turn the chain saw and file the teethon the other side.

File all the teeth to the same length. When the length ofthe cutting teeth is reduced to 5/32 inch (4 ram) the chainis worn out and should be replaced. (10)

General advice on adjusting depth gauge setting

When you sharpen the cutting tooth (A) the depthgauge setting (C) will decrease. To maintain optimalcutting performance the depth gauge (B) has to befiled down to achieve the recommended depth gaugesetting. See instructions under the heading Technicaldata to find the correct depth gauge setting for yourparticular chain.

Adjustment of depth gauge setting

The cutting teeth should be newly sharpened beforeadjusting the depth gauge setting. We recommendthat you adjust the depth gauge setting every thirdtime you sharpen the cutting teeth. NOTE! Thisrecommendation assumes that the length of thecutting teeth is not reduced excessively.

You will need a flat file and a depth gauge tool. Werecommend that you use our depth gauge tool toacheive the correct depth gauge setting and bevel forthe depth gauge.

Place the depth gauge tool over the chain. Detailedinformation regarding the use of the depth gauge tool,will be found on the package for the depth gauge tool.Use the flat file to file off the tip of the depth gauge thatprotrudes through the depth gauge tool. The depthgauge setting is correct when you no longer feelresistance as you draw the file along the depth gaugetool.

The more you use a chain the longer it becomes. Itistherefore important to adjust the chain regularly to take upthe slack.

Check the chain tension every time you refuel. NOTE! Anew chain has a running-in period during which youshould check the tension more frequently.

Tension the chain as tightly as possible, but not so tightthat you cannot pull it round freely by hand. (13)

Switch the engine off. (28)

Undo the bar nuts that hold the clutch cover/chain

brake. Use the combi-tool integrated in the rearhandguard or one with corresponding dimensions

(contact your servicing dealer (retailer) for areplacement tool). Then tighten the barnuts by handas tight as you can. (6) (11)

Raise the tip of the bar and stretch the chain bytightening the chain tensioning screw using the combi-tool.Tighten the chain until it does not sag from theunderside of the bar. (12)

Use the combi-tool to tighten the bar nuts while liftingthe tip of the bar at the same time. Check that you canpull the chain round freely by hand and that it does notsag from the underside of the bar. (13)

Lubricating cutting equipment

Chain oil

Chain oil must demonstrate good adhesion to the chainand also maintain its flow characteristics regardless ofwhether it is warm summer or cold winter weather.

Never use waste oil! Using waste oil can be dangerousto you and damage the machine and environment.

Filling with chain oil

All our chain saws have an automatic chain lubrication

system. On some models the oil flow is alsoadjustable.

The saw chain oil tank and the fuel tank are designedso that the fuel runs out before the saw chain oil.

However, this safety feature requires that you use theright sort of chain oil (if the oil is too thin it will run outbefore the fuel), and that you adjust the carburetor asrecommended (a lean mixture may mean that the fuellasts longer than the oil) and that you also use therecommended cutting equipment (a bar that is toolong will use more chain oil).

Checking chain lubrication

Check the chain lubrication each time you refuel. Seeinstructions under the heading Lubricating the bar tipsprocket.

Aim the tip of the bar at a light coloured surface about20 cm (8 inches) away. After 1 minute running at 3/4throttle you should see a distinct line of oil on the lightsurface.

If the chain lubrication is not working:

Check that the oil channel in the bar is not obstructed.

Clean if necessary.

Check that the groove in the edge of the bar is clean.Clean if necessary.

Check that the bar tip sprocket turns freely and thatthe lubricating hole in the tip sprocket is not blocked.Clean and lubricate if necessary.

If the chain lubrication system is still not working aftercarrying out the above checks and associated measuresyou should contact your servicing dealer.

Chain drive sprocket

The clutch drum is fitted with a Spur sprocket (the chainsprocket is welded on the drum (D)). (4)

Regularly check the degree of wear on the drive sprocket.Replace if wear is excessive. Replace the drive sprocketwhenever you replace the chain.

Checking wear on cutting equipment

Check the chain daily for:

Visible cracks in rivets and links.

Whether the chain is stiff.

Whether rivets and links are badly worn.

Replace the saw chain if it exhibits any of the pointsabove.

We recommend you compare the existing chain with anew chain to decide how badly the existing chain is worn.

When the length of the cutting teeth has worn down toonly 5/32 inch (4 ram) the chain must be replaced. (10)

Guide bar

Check regularly:

Whether there are burrs on the edges of the bar (A).Remove these with a file if necessary. (14)

Whether the groove in the bar has become badly worn(B). Replace the bar if necessary. (14)

Whether the tip of the bar is uneven or badly worn. Ifa hollow forms on the underside of the bar tip this isdue to running with a slack chain.

To prolong the life of the bar you should turn it overdaily.

Fitting the bar and chain

WARNING! Switch off the engine beforecarrying out any checks or maintenance.The stop switch automatically returns tothe start position, in order to preventunintentional starting, the spark plug capmust be removed from the spark plugwhen assembling, checking and/orperforming maintenance.

Always wear gloves, when working withthe chain, in order to protect your handsfrom injury.

Check that the chain brake is in disengaged position bymoving the front hand guard towards the front handle.(24)

Undo the bar nuts that hold the clutch cover/chain brake.

Use the combi-tool integrated in the rear handguard orone with corresponding dimensions (contact yourservicing dealer (retailer) for a replacement tool). Take offthe transportation ring (A). (6)(15)

Fit the bar over the bar bolts. Place the bar in its rearmost

position. Place the chain over the drive sprocket locate itin the groove on the bar. Begin on the top edge of the bar.Make sure that the edges of the cutting links are facingforward on the top edge of the bar. (16)

Fit the clutch cover (chain brake) and locate the chainadjuster pin in the cut-out in the bar. Check that the drivelinks of the chain fit correctly on the drive sprocket andthat the chain is in the groove on the bar.Tighten the barnut finger-tight. (16)

Tension the chain by turning the chain tensioning screwclockwise using the combi-tool. The chain should betensioned until it does not sag from the underside of thebar. (t 2)

The chain is correctly tensioned when it does not sag fromthe underside of the bar, but can still be turned easily byhand. Hold up the bar tip and tighten the bar nuts with thecombi-tool. (t 3)

When fitting a new chain, the chain tension has to bechecked frequently until the chain is run-in. Check thechain tension regularly. A correctly tensioned chainensures good cutting performance and long life.

Fuel

Note! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engineand must always be run using a mixture of gasoline andtwo-stroke oil. It is important to accurately measure theamount of oil to be mixed to ensure that the correct

mixture is obtained. When mixing small amounts of fuel,even small inaccuracies can drastically affect the ratio ofthe mixture.

Gasoline

Use good quality unleaded gasoline.

The lowest recommended octane grade is 87((RON+MON)/2). If you run the engine on a loweroctane grade than 87 so-called knocking can occur.This gives rise to a high engine temperature andincreased bearing load, which can result in seriousengine damage.

When working with continuous high revs (e.g. limbing)a higher octane is recommended.

Running-in

Avoid running at a too high speed for extended periodsduring the first 10 hours.

Two-stroke oil

For best results and performance use synthetic two-stroke engine oil, which is specially formulated for air-cooled two-stroke engines.

Never use two-stroke oil intended for water-cooled

engines, sometimes referred to as outboard oil (ratedTCW).

Never use oil intended for four-stroke engines.

Mixing

. Always mix the gasoline and oil in a clean containerintended for fuel.

. Always start by filling half the amount of the gasolineto be used. Then add the entire amount of oil. Mix(shake) the fuel mixture. Add the remaining amount ofgasoline.

Mix (shake) the fuel mixture thoroughly before fillingthe machine's fuel tank.

Do not mix more than one month's supply of fuel at atime.

If the machine is not used for some time the fuel tank

should be emptied and cleaned.

Chain oil

. We recommend the use of special oil (chain oil) withgood adhesion characteristics.

Never use waste oil.This results in damage to the oilpump, the bar and the chain.

It is important to use oil of the right grade (suitableviscosity range) to suit the air temperature.

In temperatures below 32-F (0"C) some oils becometoo viscous. This can overload the oil pump and resultin damage to the oil pump components.

. Contact your service agent when choosing chain oil.

Fueling

A WARNING!Taking the following

precautions, will lessen the risk of fire:

Do not smoke and do not place any hotobjects in the vicinity of fuel.

Always stop the engine and let it cool fora few minutes before refuelling.

When refuelling, open the fuel cap slowlyso that any excess pressure is releasedgently.

Tighten the fuel cap carefully afterrefuelling.

Always move the machine away from therefuelling area and source beforestarting.

Clean the area around the fuel cap. Clean the fuel andchain oil tanks regularly. The fuel filter must be replacedat least once a year. Contamination in the tanks causesmalfunction. Make sure the fuel is well mixed by shakingthe container before refuelling. The capacities of the chainoil tank and fuel tank are carefully matched. You shouldtherefore always fill the chain oil tank and fuel tank at thesame time.

Fuel safetyNever refuel the machine while the engine is running.

Make sure there is plenty of ventilation when refuellingor mixing fuel (gasoline and 2-stroke oil).

Move the machine at least 10 ft (3 m) from therefuelling point before starting it.

Never start the machine:

1 If you have spilled fuel or chain oil on the machine.Wipe off the spillage and allow remaining fuel toevaporate.

2 If you have spilled fuel on yourself or your clothes,change your clothes. Wash any part of your body thathas come in contact with fuel. Use soap and water.

3 If the machine is leaking fuel. Check regularly for leaksfrom the fuel cap and fuel lines.

Transport and storage

Always store the chain saw and fuel so that there is norisk of leakages or fumes coming into contact withsparks or naked flames from electrical equipment,electric motors, relays/switches, boilers and the like.

Always store fuel in an approved container designedfor that purpose.

For longer periods of storage or for transport of thechain saw, the fuel and chain oil tanks should beemptied. Ask where you can dispose of waste fuel andchain oil at your local gas station.

Ensure the machine is cleaned and that a completeservice is carried out before long-term storage.

The guide bar cover must always be fitted to thecutting attachment when the machine is beingtransported or in storage, in order to prevent accidentcontact with the sharp chain. Even a non-movingchain can cause serious cuts to yourself or personsyou bump into with an exposed chain.

Secure the machine during transport.

Long-term storage

Empty the fuel/oil tanks in a well ventilated area. Store thefuel in approved cans in a safe place. Fit the guide barcover. Clean the machine. See instructions under the

heading Maintenance schedule.

Starting and stopping

WARNING! Note the following beforestarting:

The chain brake must be engaged whenthe chain saw is started to reduce thechance of contact with the moving chainduring starting.

Never start a chain saw unless the bar,

chain and all covers are fitted correctly.Otherwise the clutch can come loose andcause personal injuries.

Place the machine on firm ground. Makesure you have a secure footing and thatthe chain cannot touch anything.

Keep people and animals well away fromthe working area.

Cold engine

Starting: The chain brake should be activated whenstarting the chain saw. Activate the chain brake bypushing the front hand guard forwards. (26)

Air purge: Press the air purge repeatedly until fuel beginsto fill the bulb. The bulb need not be completely filled. (20)

Choke: Pull the blue choke/fast idle lever out to the full

extent (to the FULL CHOKE position). When the choke/fast idle lever is pulled out to the full extent, the correctthrottle setting is set automatically. (18)

Start throttle: The correct choke/start throttle setting isobtained by moving the control to the choke position. (19)

Starting

Grip the front handle with your left hand. Hold the chainsaw on the ground by placing your right foot through therear handle. (22)

Pull the starter handle with your right hand and pull out thestarter cord slowly until you feel a resistance (as thestarter pawls engage) then pull firmly and rapidly until theengine starts. Never wrap the starter cord around yourhand

CAUTION! Do not pull the starter cord all the way out anddo not let go of the starter handle when the cord is fullyextended. This can damage the machine.

Push in the choke control to the "HALF choke" setting assoon as the engine fires which can be heard through a•puff. sound. (18)

Keep on pulling the cord powerfully until the engine starts.As the chain brake is still engaged the speed of the enginemust be set to idling as soon as possible, this is achievedbyquickly pressing the throttle trigger once. This preventsunnecessary wear to the clutch, clutch drum and brakeband. (23)

Note! Reactivate the chain brake by pulling the front handguard back (marked "PULL BACK TO RESET") towardsthe front handle. The chain saw is now ready for use. (24)

There is a simplified start reminder with illustrationsto describe each step on the rear edge of the saw.

Warm engine

Use the same procedure as for starting a cold engine butwithout setting the choke control in the choke position. Setthe throttle to the start position by pulling out the bluechoke control to the choke position and then pushing it inagain. (21)

Never start a chain saw unless the bar, chain and allcovers are fitted correctly. See instructions under theheading Assembly. Without a bar and chain attachedto the chain saw the clutch can come loose and cause

serious injury. (25)

. The chain brake should be activated when starting. Seinstructions under the heading Start and stop. Do notdrop start. This method is very dangerous becauseyou may lose control of the saw. (26)

Never start the machine indoors. Exhaust fumes canbe dangerous if inhaled.

. Observe your surroundings and make sure that thereis no risk of people or animals coming into contact withthe cutting equipment.

. Always hold the saw with both hands. The right handshould be on the rear handle, and the left hand on thefront handle. All people, whether right or left handed,should use this grip. Use a firm grip with thumbs andfingers encircling the chain saw handles. (27)

Stopping

Stop the engine by pressing down the stop button. (28)

DiFFiCULT STARTING (or starting a flooded engine)The engine may be flooded with too much fuel if it hasnot started after 10 pulls.Flooded engines can be cleared of excess fuel bypushing the choke/fast idle lever in completely (to theOFF/CHOKE position) and then following the warmengine starting procedure. Ensure the ON/STOP switchis in the ON position.Starting could require pulling the starter rope handlemany times depending on how badly the unit is flooded.If engine fails to start, refer to the TROUBLESHOOTIN(TABLE or call 1-800-235-5878.

IMPORTANT!

This section describes basic safety rules for using achain saw. This information is never a substitute for

professional skills and experience, if you get into asituation where you feel unsafe, stop and seek expertadvice. Contact your chain saw dealer, service agent oran experienced chain saw user. Do not attempt any taskthat you are not sure you can handle!

Before using a chain saw you must understand theeffects of kickback and how to avoid them. See

instructions under the heading How to avoid kickback.

Before using a chain saw you must understand thedifference between cutting with the top and bottomedges of the bar. See instructions under the headingsHow to avoid kickback and Machine's safety equipment.

Wear personal protective equipment. See instructionsunder the heading "Personal protective equipment".

Basic safety rules

1 Look around you:

To ensure that people, animals or other things cannotaffect your control of the machine.

To make sure that none of the above might comewithin reach of your saw or be injured by falling trees.

CAUTION! Follow the instructions above, but do not use achain saw in a situation where you cannot call for help incase of an accident.

2 Do not use the machine in bad weather, such as

dense fog, heavy rain, strong wind, intense cold, etc.Working in bad weather is tiring and often bringsadded risks, such as icy ground, unpredictable fellingdirection, etc.

3 Take great care when removing small branches andavoid cutting bushes (i.e. cutting many small branchesat the same time). Small branches can be grabbed bythe chain and thrown back at you, causing seriousinjury.

4 Make sure you can move and stand safely. Check thearea around you for possible obstacles (roots, rocks,branches, ditches, etc.) in case you have to movesuddenly. Take great care when working on slopingground.

5 Take great care when cutting a tree that is undertension. A tree that is under tension may spring backto its normal position before or after being cut. if youposition yourself incorrectly or make the cut in thewrong place the tree may hit you or the machine andcause you to lose control. Both situations can causeserious personal injury.

6 Before moving your chain saw switch off the engineand lock the chain using the chain brake. Carry thechain saw with the bar and chain pointing backwards.Fit a guard to the bar before transporting the chainsaw or carrying it for any distance.

7 When you put the chain saw on the ground, lock thesaw chain using the chain brake and ensure you havea constant view of the machine. Switch the engine offbefore leaving your chain saw for any length of time.

General rules

1 Ifyou understand what kickback is and how it happensthen you can reduce or eliminate the element ofsurprise. By being prepared you reduce the risk.Kickback is usually quite mild, but it can sometimes bevery sudden and violent.

2 Always hold the chain saw firmly with your right handon the rear handle and your left hand on the fronthandle. Wrap your fingers and thumbs around thehandles.You should use this grip whether you areright-handed or left-handed. This grip minimizes theeffect of kickback and lets you keep the chain sawunder control. Do not let go of the handles! (27)

3 Most kickback accidents happen during limbing. Makesure you are standing firmly and that there is nothingin the way that might make you trip or lose yourbalance.

Lack of concentration can lead to kickback if the

kickback zone of the bar accidentally touches abranch, nearby tree or some other object.

Have control over the workpiece. If the pieces youintend to cut are small and light, they can jam in thesaw chain and be thrown towards you.This is notnecessarily dangerous in itself, but you may besurprised and lose control of the saw. Never saw

stacked logs or branches without first separatingthem. Only saw one log or one piece at a time.Remove the cut pieces to keep your working areasafe.

4 Never use the chain saw above shoulder heightand avoid cutting with the tip of the bar. Never usethe chain saw one-handed! (30)

5 in order to keep control of your saw, always maintaina firm foothold. Never work on a ladder, in a tree or onany other insecure support. (31)

6 Always use a fast cutting speed, i.e. full throttle.

7 Take great care when you cut with the top edge of thebar, i.e. when cutting from the underside of the object.This is known as cutting with a pushing chain. Thechain tries to push the chain saw back towards theuser. if the saw chain is jamming, the saw may bepushed back at you.

8 Unless the user resists this pushing force there is arisk that the chain saw will move so far backwards that

only the kickback zone of the bar is in contact with thetree, which can lead to a kickback. (32)

Cutting with the bottom edge of the bar, i.e. from thetop of the object downwards, is known as cutting witha pulling chain, in this case the chain saw pulls itselftowards the tree and the front edge of the chain sawbody rests naturally on the trunk when cutting. Cuttingwith a pulling chain gives the operator better controlover the chain saw and the position of the kickbackzone.

9 Follow the instructions on sharpening and maintainingyour bar and chain. When you replace the bar andchain use only combinations that are recommendedby us. See instructions under the headings Cuttingequipment and Technical data.

General

Always use full throttle when cutting!

. Reduce the speed to idle after every cut (running theengine for too long at full throttle without any load, i.e.without any resistance from the chain during cutting,can lead to serious engine damage).

Cutting from above = Cutting with a pulling chain.

Cutting from below = Cutting with pushing chain.

Cutting with a pushing chain increases the risk ofkickback. See instructions under the heading How toavoid kickback.

Terms

Cutting = General term for cutting through wood.

Limbing = Cutting branches off a felled tree.

Splitting = When the object you are cutting breaks offbefore the cut is complete.

There are five important factors you should consider

before making a cut:

1 Make sure the cutting equipment will not jam in thecut.

2 Make sure the object you are cutting will not split.

3 Make sure the chain will not strike the ground or anyother object during or after cutting.

4 is there a risk of kickback?

5 Do the conditions and surrounding terrain affect howsafely you can stand and move about?

Two factors decide whether the chain will jam or the objectthat you are cutting will split: the first is how the object issupported before and after cutting, and the second iswhether it is in tension.

in most cases you can avoid these problems by cutting intwo stages; from the top and from the bottom. You need tosupport the object so that it will not trap the chain or splitduring cutting.

iMPORTANT! if the chain jams in the cut: stop theengine! Don't try to pull the chain saw free. if you do youmay be injured by the chain when the chain sawsuddenly breaks free. Use a lever to open up the cut andfree the chain saw.

The following instructions describe how to handle thecommon situations you are likely to encounter when usinga chain saw.

Limbing

When limbing thick branches you should use the sameapproach as for cutting.

Cut difficult branches piece by piece.

Cutting

if you have a pile of logs, each log you attempt to cutshould be removed from the pile, placed on a saw horseor runners and cut individually.

Remove the cut pieces from the cutting area. By leavingthem in the cutting area, you increase the risk forinadvertently getting a kickback, as well as increasing therisk of losing your balance while working.

The log is lying on the ground. There is little risk of thechain jamming or the object splitting. However there is arisk that the chain will touch the ground when you finishthe cut.

Cut all the way through the log from above. Avoid lettingthe chain touch the ground as you finish the cut. Maintainfull throttle but be prepared for what might happen. (33)

if it is possible (can you turn the log?) stop cutting about2/3 of the way through the log.

Turn the log and finish the cut from the opposite side.

The log is supported at one end. There is a high riskthat it will split.

Start by cutting from below (about 1/3 of the way through).

Finish by cutting from above so that the two cuts meet.

The log is supported at both ends.There is a high riskthat the chain will jam.

Start by cutting from above (about 1/3 of the way through).

Finish by cutting from below so that the two cuts meet.

Tree felling technique

Safe distance

The safe distance between a tree that is to be felled and

anyone else working nearby is at least 2 1/2 tree lengths.Make sure that no-one else is in this "risk zone" before orduring felling. (39)

Felling direction

The aim is to fell the tree in a position where you can limband cross-cut the log as easily as possible. You want it tofall in a location where you can stand and move aboutsafely.

Once you have decided which way you want the tree to fallyou must judge which way the tree would fall naturally.

Several factors affect this:

Lean of the tree

Bend

Wind direction

Arrangement of branches

Weight of snow

Obstacles within the reach of the tree: for example,other trees, power lines, roads and buildings.

Look for signs of damage and rot in the stem, thismakes it more probably that the tree will break andstart to fall before you expect it to.

You may find you are forced to let the tree fall in its naturaldirection because it is impossible or dangerous to try tomake it fall in the direction you first intended.

Another very important factor, which does not affect thefelling direction but does affect your safety, is to make sure

the tree has no damaged or dead branches that mightbreak off and hit you during felling.

The main point to avoid is letting the tree fall onto anothertree. It is very dangerous to remove a trapped tree andthere is high accident risk. See instructions under theheading Freeing a tree that has fallen badly.

Clearing the trunk and preparing your retreat

Delimb the stem up to shoulder height, it is safer to workfrom the top down and to have the tree between you andthe saw.

Remove any undergrowth from the base of the tree andcheck the area for obstacles (stones, branches, holes,etc.) so that you have a clear path of retreat when the treestarts to fall.Your path of retreat should be roughly 135degrees away from the intended felling direction. (40)

Felling

Felling is done using three cuts. First you make thedirectional cuts, which consist of the top cut and thebottom cut, then you finish with the felling cut. By placingthese cuts correctly you can control the felling directionvery accurately.

Directional cuts

To make the directional cuts you begin with the top cut.Stand to the right of the tree and cut on the pull stroke.

Next make the bottom cut so that it finishes exactly at theend of the top cut. (41)

The directional cuts should run 1/4 of the diameter

through the trunk and the angle between the top cut andbottom cut should be 45'.

The line where the two cuts meet is called the directional

cut line. This line should be perfectly horizontal and atright angles (90") to the chosen felling direction. (42)

Felling cut

The felling cut is made from the opposite side of the treeand it must be perfectly horizontal. Stand on the left sideof the tree and cut on the pull stroke.

Make the felling cut about 1.5-2 inches (3-5 cm) above thebottom directional cut.

Finish the felling cut parallel with the directional cut line sothat the distance between them is at least 1/10 of thetrunk diameter.The uncut section of the trunk is called thefelling hinge.

The felling hinge controls the direction that the tree falls in.(44)

All control over the felling direction is lost if the fellinghinge is too narrow or non-existent, or if the directionalcuts and felling cut are badly placed.

When the felling cut and directional cut are complete thetree should start to fall by itself or with the aid of a fellingwedge or breaking bar.

We recommend that you use a bar that is longer than thediameter of the tree, so that you can make the felling cutand directional cuts with single cutting strokes. Seeinstructions under the heading Technical data section tofind out which lengths of bar are recommended for yoursaw.

There are methods for felling trees with a diameter largerthan the bar length. However these methods involve amuch greater risk that the kickback zone of the bar willcome into contact with the tree.

Freeing a tree that has fallen badly

Freeing a "trapped tree"

It is very dangerous to remove a trapped tree and there ishigh accident risk.

Never try to fell the tree that is trapped.

Never work in the risk zone of the hanging trapped tree.

The safest method is to use a winch.

Tractor-mounted

Portable

Cutting trees and branches that are in tension

Preparations:Work out which side is in tension and wherethe point of maximum tension is (i.e. where it would breakif it was bent even more).

Decide which is the safest way to release the tension andwhether you are able to do it safely. In complicatedsituations the only safe method is to put aside your chainsaw and use a winch.

General advice:

Position yourself so that you will be clear of the tree orbranch when the tension is released.

Make one or more cuts at or near the point of maximumtension. Make as many cuts of sufficient depth asnecessary to reduce the tension and make the tree orbranch break at the point of maximum tension.

Never cut straight through a tree or branch that is intension!

If you must cut across tree/limb, make two to three cuts,one inch apart, one to two inches deep.

Continue to cut deeper until tree/limb bends and tensionis released.

Cut tree/limb from outside the bend, after tension hasbeen released.

How to avoid kickback

WARNING! Kickback can happen very

suddenly and violently kicking the chainsaw, bar and chain back at the user. If

this happens when the Chain is moving itcan cause very seriousl even fatalinjuries. It is vital you understand whatcauses kickbac k and that you can avoidit by taking care and using the right

working technique.

What is kickback?

The word kickback is used to describe the suddenreaction that causes the chain saw and bar to jump off anobject when the upper quadrant of the tip of the bar,known as the kickback zone, touches an object. (32)

Kickback always occurs in the cutting plane of the bar.Normally the chain saw and bar are thrown backwardsand upwards towards the user. However, the chain sawmay move in a different direction depending on the way itwas being used when the kickback zone of the bartouched the object.

Kickback only occurs if the kickback zone of the bartouches an object. (45)

Limbing

WARNINGI A majority of kickback

accidents occur during limbing. Do notuse the k ckbeck zone of the gu de bar.

Be extremely cautious and avoidcontacting the log, other limbs or objectswith the nose of the guide bar. Beextreme!y cautious of limbs undertension.They Can spring back towardyou and Cause less 0f centre! resuitingin injury.

Make sure that you can stand and move about safely.Work on the left side of the trunk. Work as close as

possible to the chain saw for maximum control. Ifpossible,let the weight of the chain saw rest on the trunk.

Keep the trunk between you and the chain saw as youmove along the trunk.

Cutting the trunk into logs

The user must only carry out the maintenance andservice work described in this manual. More extensive

work must be carried out by an authorized serviceworkshop.

Carburetor adjustmentYour product has been designed and manufactured tospecifications that reduce harmful emissions.

Function

The carburetor governs the engine's speed via thethrottle control. Air and fuel are mixed in thecarburetor. The air/fuel mixture is non-adjustableexcept by a trained technician. Correct adjustment isessential to get the best performance from themachine.

The T-screw regulates the throttle setting at idlespeed. If the T-screw is turned clockwise this gives ahigher idle speed; turning it anti-clockwise gives alower idle speed.

Basic settings and running in

The basic carburetor settings are adjusted during testingat the factory. Fine adjustment must be carried out by atrained technician.

Fine adjustment of the idling speed T

Adjust the idle speed with the T-screw. If it is necessary tore-adjust, turn the T-screw clockwise while the engine isrunning, until the chain starts to rotate. Then turn counter-clockwise until the chain stops. A correctly adjusted idlespeed setting occurs when the engine runs smoothly inevery position. It should also be good margin to the rpmwhen the chain starts to rotate.

Checking, maintaining andservicing chain saw safetyequipment

Note! All servicing and repair work on the machinerequires special training. This is especially true of themachine's safety equipment. If your machine fails any ofthe checks described below we recommend you tocontact our servicing dealer. Any maintenance otherthan that described in this manual must be carried outby your servicing dealer (retailer).

Switch off the engine and take off the ignition cablebefore repairs or maintenance

Chain brake and front hand guard

Checking brake band wear

Brush off any wood dust, resin and dirt from the chainbrake and clutch drum. Dirt and wear can impair operationof the brake. (34)

Regularly check that the brake band is at least 0.024 inch(0,6 mm) thick at its thinnest point.

Checking the front hand guard

Make sure the front hand guard is not damaged and thatthere are no visible defects such as cracks.

Move the front hand guard forwards and back to makesure it moves freely and that it is securely anchored to theclutch cover. (35)

Checking the inertia brake release

With the engine turned off, hold the chain saw over astump or other firm object. Let go of the front handle sothat the bar drops towards the stump as the chain sawrotates around the rear handle.

When the bar hits the stump the brake should beactivated. (37)

Checking the brake trigger

Place the chain saw on firm ground and start it. Make surethe chain does not touch the ground or any other object.See the instructions under the heading Start and stop.

Grasp the chain saw firmly, wrapping your fingers andthumbs around the handles.

Apply full throttle and activate the chain brake by tiltingyour left wrist forward onto the front hand guard. Do not letgo of the front handle. The chain should stopimmediately.

Throttle lockout

Make sure the throttle control is locked at the idle

setting when the throttle lockout is released.

Press the throttle lockout and make sure it returns to

its original position when you release it.

Check that the throttle trigger and throttle lockoutmove freely and that the return springs work properly.

Start the chain saw and apply full throttle. Release thethrottle control and check that the chain stops andremains stationary. If the chain rotates when thethrottle control is in the idle position you should checkthe carburetor idle adjustment.

Chain catcher

Check that the chain catcher is not damaged and is firmlyattached to the body of the chain saw.

Right hand guard

Check that the right hand guard is not damaged and thatthere are no visible defects, such as cracks.

Vibration damping system

Regularly check the vibration damping units for cracks ordeformation.

Make sure the vibration damping units are securelyattached to the engine unit and handle unit.

Stop switchStart the engine and make sure the engine stops when,ou move the stop switch to the stop setting. (28)

Muffler

Never use a machine that has a faulty muffler. Regularlycheck that the muffler is securely attached to the machine.

Note:The spark arrestor screen (A) on this machine isserviceable. The screen must be replaced if it isdamaged. If the screen is blocked the machine willoverheat and this will cause damage to the cylinder andpiston. Never use a machine with a muffler that is in poorcondition. Never use a muffler if the spark arrestorscreen is missing or defective. (7)

After 75 hours of use, we recommend that your muffler bereplaced by your servicing dealer (retailer).

Air filter

The air filter must be regularly cleaned to remove dust anddirt in order to avoid:

Carburettor malfunctions

Starting problems

Loss of engine power

Unnecessary wear to engine parts

Excessive fuel consumption.

Remove the air filter (3) after taking off the cylindercover, screw (1) and filter cover (2). When refittingmake sure that the air filter seals tightly against thefilter holder. Clean the filter by brushing or shaking it.(36)

The filter can be cleaned more thoroughly by washing it inwater and detergent.

An air filter that has been in use for a long time cannot becleaned completely. The filter must therefore be replacedwith a new one at regular intervals. A damaged air filtermust always be replaced.

Spark plugThe spark plug condition is influenced by:

Incorrect carburetor adjustment.

+ An incorrect fuel mixture (too much or incorrect type ofoil).

+ A dirty air filter.

These factors cause deposits on the spark plugelectrodes, which may result in operating problems andstarting difficulties. (38)

If the machine is low on power, difficult to start or runspoorly at idle speed: always check the spark plug firstbefore taking any further action. If the spark plug is dirty,clean it and check that the electrode gap is 0.020 inch (0,5ram). The spark plug should be replaced after about amonth in operation or earlier if necessary.

Note! Always use the recommended spark plug type! Useof the wrong spark plug can damage the piston/cylinder.Check that the spark plug is fitted with a suppressor.

"COS" centrifugal cleaningCentrifugal cleaning means the following: All air to thecarburetor passes through the starter. Dirt and dust ispushed out by the cooling fan.

IMPORTANT! In order to maintain operation of thecentrifugal cleaning system it must be regularlymaintained. Clean the air intake to the starter, the fins on

the flywheel, the space around the flywheel, inlet pipe andcarburetor compartment.

Kickback safety precautions

A WARNING ! Kickback may occur when the

nose or tip of the guide bar touches anobject, or when the wood c oses n andpinches the saw chain in the cut.

Tip contact in some cases may cause slightning fast reverse reaction, kickingthe guide bar up and back towards theoperator.

Pinching the saw chain along the top ofthe guide bar may push the guide barrapidly back towards the operator.

Either of these reactions may cause youto lose control of the saw which could

result in serious personal injury,

Do not rely exclusively upon the safetydevices built into your saw. As a chainsaw user, you should take several stepsto keep your cutting jobs free fromaccident or injury.

With a basic understanding of kickback, you can reduceor eliminate the element of surprise. Sudden surprisecontributes to accidents.

Keep a good firm grip on the saw with both hands, theright hand on the rear handle, and the left hand on thefront handle, when the engine is running. Use a firm gripwith thumbs and fingers encircling the chain saw handles.A firm grip will help you reduce kickback and maintaincontrol of the saw. Don't let go.

Make sure that the area in which you are cutting is freefrom obstacles. Do not let the nose of the guide barcontact a log, branch, or any other obstacle which couldbe hit while you are operating the saw.

Cut at high engine speeds.

Do not overreach or cut above shoulder height.

Follow manufacturer's sharpening and maintenanceinstructions for the saw chain.

Only use replacement bars and chains specified by themanufacturer or the equivalent.

Other safety precautions

Do not operate a chain saw when you are fatigued.

Use safety footwear; snug-fitting clothing, protectivegloves, and eye, hearing and head protection devices.

Use caution when handling fuel. Move the chain saw atleast 10 feet (3 m) from the fueling point before startingthe engine.

Do not allow other persons to be near the chain saw whenstarting or cutting with the chain saw. Keep bystandersand animals out of the work area.

Do not start cutting until you have a clear work area,secure footing and a planned retreat path from the fallingtree.

Keep all parts of your body away from the saw chain whenthe engine is running.

Before you start the engine, make sure that the saw chainis not contacting anything.

Carry the chain saw with the engine stopped, the guidebar and saw chain to the rear, and the muffler away fromyour body.

Do not operate a chain saw that is damaged, improperlyadjusted, or not completely and securely assembled. Besure that the saw chain stops moving when the throttlecontrol trigger is released.

Shut off the engine before setting the chain saw down.

Use extreme caution when cutting small size brush andsaplings because slender material may catch the sawchain and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance.

When cutting a limb that is under tension be alert forspringback so that you will not be struck when the tensionin the wood fibers is released.

Keep handles dry, clean and free of oil or fuel mixture.

Operate the chain saw only in well-ventilated areas.

Do not operate a chain saw in a tree.

Do not operate a chain saw above shoulder height.

All chain saw service, other than the items listed in theoperator's/owner's safety and maintenance instructions,should be performed by competent chain saw servicepersonnel. (For example, if improper tools are used toremove the flywheel or if an improper tool is used to holdthe flywheel in order to remove the clutch, structuraldamage to the flywheel could occur and subsequentlycause the flywheel to burst.)

When transporting your chain saw, use the appropriateguide bar guard.

Freno de cadena con protecci6n contrareculadas

Su motosierra esta equipada con un freno de cadenadisehado para detener la cadena de sierra en case dereculada. Un freno de cadena reduce el riesgo deaccidentes, pero s61oes usted, el usuario, quien puedeimpedirlos.

Proceda con cuidado en la utilizaci6n de la sierra,procurando que el sector de riesgo de reculada de laespada nunca toque ning0n objeto.

El freno de cadena (A) se activa bien manualmente(con la mane izquierda) o per efecto de la inercia. (3)

La activaci6n se produce al empujar hacia delante laprotecci6n contra reculadas (B). (3)

El movimiento active un mecanismo de muelle quetensa la cinta del freno (C) alrededor del sistema dearrastre de la cadena (D) en el motor (tambor deembrague). (4)

La protecci6n contra reculadas no s61oactiva el frenode cadena. Tambien cumple otra funci6n importante:reduce el riesgo de que la mane izquierda toque lacadena si el usuario suelta el mango delantero.

El freno de cadena debe estar activado cuando searranca la motosierra, para impedir que la cadenagire.

Utilice el freno de cadena come 'freno deestacionamiento' al arrancar y pare los trasladoscortes a fin de prevenir accidentes per contactoinvoluntario de usted o el entorno con la cadena desierra en movimiento.

El freno de cadena se desacopla empujando laprotecci6n contra reculadas hacia atrAs, contra elmango delantero.

Las reculadas pueden ser rapidisimas y muyviolentas. La mayoria de las reculadas son pequehasy, por tanto, no siempre activan el freno de cadena. Enestos casos debe sujetarse la motosierra con fuerza,sin soltarla.

El modo de activaci6n del freno de cadena, manual opor inercia, depende de la fuerza de la reculada y dela posicidn de la motosierra en relaci6n al objeto conel que toca el sector de riesgo de reculada de laespada.

En reculadas fuertes y con el sector de riesgo dereculada de la espada Io mb.s lejos posible delusuario, el freno de cadena estb. diseNado para seractivado por su propio contrapeso (inercia) en elsentido de reculada.

En las reculadas poco violentas, o al trabajar con elsector de riesgo de reculada cerca del usuario, elfreno de cadena se activa manualmente con la manoizquierda.

En posici6n de tala, la mano izquierda est,. en unaposici6n que permite la activaci6n manual del frenode cadena. Con este agarre, cuando la manoizquierda estb. colocada de forma que no puede influiren el movimiento de la protecci6n contra reculada, elfreno de cadena s61o se puede activar mediante lafunci6n de inercia. (8)

&Activara siernpre rni rnano el freno decadena en caso de reculada?

No. Hace falta una fuerza determinada para mover laprotecci6n contra reculada hacia adelante. Si su manos61o roza la protecci6n contra reculada o resbala sobreella, puede ocurrir que la fuerza no sea suficiente paraactivar el freno de cadena. Tambien debe agarrar confirmeza la empuhadura de la motosierra cuando trabaja.Si Io hace y se produce una reculada, puede ocurrir queno suelte el agarre de la empuhadura delantera y que noactive el freno de cadena, o que el freno de cadena no seactive hasta que la sierra haya girado bastante. En casosas[ puede suceder que el freno de cadena no tengatiempo de detener la cadena antes de que le toque austed.

EIIo ocurre tambien en determinadas posturas de trabajoque impiden que su mano Ilegue a la protecci6n contrareculada para activar el freno de cadena; por ejemplo,cuando se sujeta la sierra en posici6n de tala.

&Se activa siempre pot inercia el freno decadena cuando se produce unareculada?No. En primer lugar, su freno debe funcionar. Es fb.cilprobar el freno; vea las instrucciones del capitulo Control,mantenimiento y servicio del equipo de seguridad de lamotosierra. Recomendamos que haga esta prueba antesde empezar cada turno de trabajo. En segundo lugar, lareculada debe tener la fuerza suficiente para activar elfreno de cadena. Si el freno de cadena fuera demasiado

sensible, se activar[a constantemente, Io que ser[amolesto.

&Me protegera siempre el freno decadena contra da_os si se produce unareculada?

No. En primer lugar, su freno debe funcionar paraproporcionar la protecci6n prevista. En segundo lugar, elfreno se debe activar tal como se describe arriba paradetener la cadena de sierra en una reculada. En tercerlugar, el freno de cadena se puede activar, pero si laespada estb. demasiado cerca de usted puede ocurrir queel freno no tenga tiempo de reducir la velocidad y parar lacadena antes de que la motosierra le toque.

Solamente usted y empleando una tecnica de trabajocorrecta puede eliminar el efecto de reculada y losriesgos que comporta.

Fiador del acelerador

El fiador del acelerador estA disehado para impedir laactivaci6n involuntaria del acelerador. Cuando se oprimeel fiador (A) en el mango (= cuando se agarra el mango),se desacopla el acelerador (B). Cuando se suelta elmango, el acelerador y el fiador vuelven a sus posicionesoriginales. Ambas funciones se efectt_an con sistemasindependientes de muelles de retorno. Con esta posici6n,el acelerador queda automAticamente bloqueado enralenti. (5)

Captor de cadena

El captor de cadena estA disehado para captar lascadenas que se sueltan o se rompen. Normalmente estose evita con el tensado correcto de la cadena (vea lasinstrucciones bajo el fitulo Montaje) y con unmantenimiento adecuado de la espada y la cadena (vealas instrucciones bajo el tltulo Instrucciones generales detrabajo).

Protecci6n de la mano derecha

La protecci6n de la mano derecha, ademas de protegerla mano cuando una cadena se suelta o se rompe, impideque las ramas perjudiquen el agarre del mango posterior.

Sistema amortiguador de vibraciones

Su mAquina incorpora un sistema amortiguador disefladopara reducir al mAximo posible las vibraciones y optimizarla comodidad de uso.

El sistema amortiguador de vibraciones de la mAquinareduce la transmisi6n de vibraciones entre la parte delmotor/equipo de corte y la parte de los mangos de lamAquina. El cuerpo de la motosierra, incluyendo elequipo de corte, va suspendido de la parte de los mangoscon un elemento antivibratorio.

El corte de maderas duras (la mayor[a de los Arbolescaducifolios) produce mAs vibraciones que el de maderasblandas (la mayorla de las conlferas). El corte con unequipo de corte desafilado o incorrecto (modeloincorrecto o mal afilado) incrementa el nivel devibraciones.

Espada

Generalidades sobre el afilado de los dientescortantes

No corte nunca con una sierra roma. Es sehal de

sierra roma cuando es necesario presionar el equipo

de corte a traves de la madera y el que las virutas sonmuy pequehas. Una cadena de sierra muy roma noproduce virutas. El L_nicoresultado es polvo demadera.

Una sierra de cadena bien afilada atraviesa por s[ solala madera y produce virutas grandes y largas.

La parte cortante de una cadena de sierra sedenomina eslabdn de corte, formado por un diente decorte (A) y un taldn de profundidad (B). La distanciaen altura entre ellos determina la profundidad de corte(C). (9)

Es muy dificil afilar correctamente una cadena de sierrasin los accesorios adecuados. Por ello le recomendamos

que utilice nuestro calibrador de afilado. La plantillagarantiza un afilado de la cadena de sierra para unareducci6n de la reculada y una capacidad de corte6ptimas.

Afilado de dientes cortantes

Para afilar dientes de corte se requiere una lima redonday un calibrador de afilado. Vea las instrucciones delcapltulo Datos tecnicos en Io referente al diAmetro de iliaredonda y el calibrador de afilado recomendados para lacadena de su motosierra.

Apague el motor. (28)

Compruebe que la cadena este bien tensada. Con untensado insificiente, la cadena tiene inestabilidadlateral, Io cual dificuita el afilado correcto.

Afile siempre desde el interior del diente hacia fuera.En el retorno, suavice la presidn de la lima. Primero,afile todos los dientes de un lado y, luego, vuelva lamotosierra y afile los dientes del otro lado.

Afile todos los dientes a la misma Iongitud. Cuandos61o queden 4 mm (5/32.) de la Iongitud de diente, lacadena esta desgastada y debe cambiarse. (10)

Generalidades sobre el ajuste de la profundidad decorte

AI afilar el diente de corte se reduce la altura del tal6nde profundidad (= profundidad de corte). Paramantener una capacidad maxima de corte hay quebajar el tal6n de profundidad al nivel recomendado.

Ajuste de la profundided de torte

El ajuste de la profundidad de corte debe hacerse conlos dientes cortantes recien afilados. Recomendamosajustar la profundidad de corte despues de cadatercer afilado de la cadena de sierra, iATENCION!Esta recomendaci6n presupone que la Iongitud de losdientes de corte no se ha reducido anormalmente.

Para ajustar la profundidad de corte se necesita unalima plana y un calibrador de profundidad de corte.Recomendamos utilizar nuestro calibrador de afilado

de profundidad pare obtener la medida deprofundidad correcta y el Angulo correcto del tal6n deprofundidad.

Ponga el calibrador de afilado sobre la cadena desierra. En el envase del calibrador hay instruccionessobre su empleo. Utilice la lima plana pare limar elsobrante de la parte sobresaliente del tal6n deprofundidad. La profundidad de corte es correctacuando no se nota resistencia alguna al pasar la limasobre el calibrador.

Tensado de la cadena

La cadena se alarga con la utilizaci6n. Por consiguiente,es importante ajustar el equipo de corte pare compensareste cambio.

El tensado de la cadena debe controlarse cada vez quese reposte combustible, iNOTA! Las cadenas nuevasrequieren un perlodo de rodaje, durante el que debecontrolarse el tensado con mayor frecuencia.

En general, la cadena debe tensarse tanto como seaposible, aunque debe ser posibie girarla fb.cilmente con lamano. (13)

Afloje las tuercas de la espada que fijan la cubiertadel embrague / el freno de cadena. Utilice laherramienta combinada integrada en el protector demanos posterior u otra con medidas identicas(p6ngase en contacto con su distribuidor pare obteneruna herramienta de sustituci6n). Despues, apriete lastuercas a mano, Io mAs fuerte que pueda. (6) (11)

. Con la puntera de la espada hacia arriba, tense lacadena apretando el tornillo tensor con la herramientacombinada.Tense la cadena hasta que deje de colgaren la parte inferior de la espada. (12)

. Con la herramienta combinada, apriete las tuercas dela espada sujetando al mismo tiempo la puntera deesta. Compruebe que la cadena pueda girarse amano con facilidad y que no cuelgue en la parteinferior de la espada. (13)

Un aceite pare cadena de motosierra ha de tener buenaadhesi6n ala cadena, asi como buena fluidez tanto enclimas c_lidos como frios.

iNo utilizer nunca aceite residual! Es nocivo parausted, la mb.quina y el medio ambiente.

i lMPORTANTE! Si utiliza aceite vegetal pare cadena desierra, desmonte y limpie la ranura de la espada y lacadena de sierra antes del almacenamientoprolongado. De no hacerlo, hay riesgo de que se oxideel aceite de la cadena de sierra, con Io que la cadena sevuelve r[gida y el cabezal de rueda se atasca.

Repostaje de eceite pare cadene de motosierra

. Todos nuestros modelos de motosierra tienenlubricaci6n autom_tica de la cadena. Algunosmodelos pueden obtenerse tambien con flujo deaceite regulable.

El dep6sito de aceite de cadena y el dep6sito decombustible estb.n dimensionados para que setermine el combustible antes de terminarse el aceitede cadena.

I/o obstante, para que esta funci6n de seguridad seaefectiva debe utiiizarse el aceite de cadena de sierracorrecto (un aceite demasiado claro se termina antesde que se termine el combustible), debe seguirsenuestra recomendaci6n de reglaje del carburador(una mezcla demasiado pobre hace que elcombustible dure m_s que el aceite de cadena), ydeben seguirse nuestras recomendaciones de equipode corte (una espada demasiado larga requiere mb.saceite lubricante).

Control de la lubricacibn de le cadena

. Controle la lubricaci6n de la cadena cada vez quereposte. Vea las instrucciones del cap[tuloLubricaci6n del cabezal de rueda de la espada.

Apunte la punta de la espada a unos 20 cm (8pulgadas) de un objeto fijo y claro. Despues de 1minuto de funcionamiento a 3/4 de aceleraci6n debe

verse una I[nea de aceite clara en el objeto.

Si no funciona la lubricaci6n de la cadena:

Compruebe que el canal de aceite de cadena en laespada este abierto. L[mpielo si es necesario.

Compruebe que la gufa de la espada este limpia.L[mpiela si es necesario.

Compruebe que el cabezal de rueda de la espadagire con facilidad y que su orificio de lubricaci6n esteabierto. Limpie y lubrique si es necesario.

Si la lubricaci6n de la cadena no funciona despues deefectuar los controles y medidas anteriores, contacte a sutaller de servicio.

Pihbnde arrastre de la cadena

El tambor del embrague Ileva uno Pifi6n Spur (pifl6nsoldado en el tambor (D)). (4)

Compruebe regularmente el nivel de desgaste del pifi6nde arrastre de la cadena y cb.mbielo si presenta undesgaste anormal. El pifi6n de arrastre de la cadena debecambiarse cada vez que se cambie la cadena.

Control del desgaste del equipo de corte

Controle diariamente la cadena para comprobar si:

Hay grietas visibles en los remaches y eslabones.

La cadena estA rigida.

Los remaches y eslabones presentan un desgasteanormal.

Deseche la cadena de sierra si concuerda con alguno ovarios de los puntos anteriores.

Para comprobar el desgaste de la cadena que utiliza, lerecomendamos que la compare con una cadena nueva.

Cuando s61o queden 4 mm (5/32 de pulgada) de Iongitudde diente cortante, la cadena estb. gastada y debecambiarse. (10)

Espada

Controle a intervalos regulares:

Si se hart formado rebabas en los lados de la espada(A). Lime si es necesario. (14)

Si la gu[a de la espada presenta un desgaste anormal(B). Cambie la espada si es necesario. (14)

Si la punts de la espada presents un desgasteanormal o irregular. Si se ha formado una "cavidad" alfinal del radio de la punts, en la parte inferior de laespada, es serial de que Ud. ha utilizado la mAquinacon un tensado de cadena insuficiente.

Pars obtener una duraci6n 6ptima, la espada debegirarse cads dia.

A iATENCIONI La mayoria de los

accidentes con la motosierra seproducen cuando la cadena toes alusuarlo.

Montaje de la espada y la cadena

,_ iATENCION! Los trabajos de control y/o

rnantenirniento deben efectuarse con elmotor desconectado. El contacto de

parada retorna autornaticarnente a iaposici6n de arranque. Por consiguiente,antes de realizar trabajos de rnontaje,control y/o rnantenirniento se debe quitarel capuchon de encendido de la bujiapara evitar el arranque irnprevisto.

Para trabajar con la cadena, utilicesiernpre guantes para proteger iasrnanos contra lesiones.

Compruebe que no este activado el freno de cadenaempujando la protecci6n contra reculadas del freno decadena hacia el mango delantero. (24)

Afloje las tuercas de la espada que fijan la cubierta delembrague /el freno de cadena. Utilice la herramientacombinada integrada en el protector de manos posterioru otra con medidas identicas (p6ngase en contacto consu distribuidor para obtener una herramienta desustituci6n). Saque la protecci6n de transporte (A). (6)(15)

Monte la espada en los pernos. Sitt_ela en la posici6nposterior extrema. Monte la cadena en el pi_6n dearrastre y la guia de la espada. Empiece con la partesuperior de la cadena. Compruebe que los filos de loseslabones de corte esten orientados hacia delante en laparte superior de la espada. (16)

Monte la cubierta del embrague (el freno de cadena) yubique el vastago de tensado de cadena en la muesca dela espada. Compruebe que los eslabones de arrastre dela cadena encajen en el piN6n de arrastre de la cadena yque la cadena este bien colocada en la guia de la espada.Apriete la tuerca de la espada con los dedos. (16)

Tense la cadena enroscando en el sentido de las agujasdel reloj el tornillo tensor con la herramienta combinada.La cadena debe tensarse hasta que deje de colgar en laparte inferior de la espada. (12)

La cadena esta correctamente tensada cuando no cuelgaen la parte inferior de la espada y puede girarsefacilmente con la mano. Apriete las tuercas de la espadacon la herramienta combinada, sujetando al mismotiempo la puntera de la espada. (13)

El tensado de una cadena nueva debe controlarse con

frecuencia, hasta que se haya hecho el rodaje. Controleel tensado regularmente. Una cadena correcta significabuena capacidad de corte y larga duraci6n.

Ya rnontada, repita rode el procedimiento |para cerciorarse de que el rnontaje es |correctQy quetQdOs_0s_adores |estan sujetos.

Carburante

Aclaraci6n! La mb.quina tiene motor de dos tiempos, porIo que debe utilizarse siempre una mezcla de gasolinacon aceite para motores de 2 tiempos. Es importantemedir con precision la cantidad de aceite que se mezclapara conseguir la proporci6n de mezcla adecuada. AImezclar pequeflas cantidades de combustible, incluso lospequefios errores en la cantidad de aceite tienen unagran incidencia en la proporci6n de mezcla.

Gasolina

Utilice gasolina sin plomo o gasolina con plomo dealta calidad.

El octanaje m[nimo recomendado es 87((RON+MON)/2). Si se utiliza gasolina de octanajeinferior a 87, se puede producir el efecto "clavaz6n".Esto produce un aumento de la temperatura del motory de la carga sobre los cojinetes, fen6menos quepueden causar averias graves del motor.

Para trabajos con r0gimen alto continuado (porejemplo, para desramar), se recomienda un octanajemAs alto.

Rodaje

No manejar la mAquina a revoluciones demasiado altaspor periodos prolongados durante las primeras diezhoras.

Aceite para rnotores de dos tiernpos

Para prestaciones y resultados 6ptimos, utilizarsintetica de dos tiempos de aceite del motor, que estAespecialmente formulado para refrigerados por airemotores de dos tiempos.

No utilice nunca aceite para motores de dos tiemposfuera borda refrigerados por agua (llamado outboardoil), con designaci6n TCW.

No utilice nunca aceite para motores de cuatrotiempos.

Un aceite de calidad deficiente o una mezcla deaceite/combustible demasiado rica puede perjudicarel funcionamiento del catalizador y reducir su vida L_til.

Mezcla

Siempre haga la mezcla de gasolina y aceite en unrecipiente limpio, homologado para gasolina.

Primero, ponga la mitad de la gasolina que se va amezclar. Luego, a_ada todo el aceite y agite lamezcla. A continuaci6n, a_ada el resto de la gasolina.

Agite bien la mezcla de combustible antes de ponerlaen el dep6sito de combustible de la mAquina.

No mezcle mAs combustible que el necesario parautilizar un mes como m_ximo.

Si no se ha utilizado la mb.quina por un tiempoprolongado, vacie el dep6sito de combustible yllmpielo.

Aceite para cadena

Para lubricar se recomienda un aceite especial(aceite para lubricar cadenas) con buena aptitudadherente.

No utilice nunca aceite residual. Puede ocasionar

aver[as en la bomba de aceite, la espada y la cadena.

Es importante utilizar un aceite adecuado para latemperatura ambiente (con la viscosidad correcta).

Con temperaturas bajo cero, algunos aceites seespesan. EIIo puede causar sobrecargas en la bombade aceite, con aver[as subsiguientes de las piezas dela bomba.

Para la selecci6n de aceite lubricante de cadena,consulte con su taller de servicio.

Repostaje

,_ iATENCION! Las siguientes medidas

preventivas reducen el riesgo deincendio:

No fume ni pangs objetas caiientescerca del combustible.

Apague el motor y deje que se enfrieunos minutos antes de repostar,

Pars repostar, abra despaeio la taps deldep6sito de combustible pars evacuarientamente is eventual sobrepresi6n.

Despu_s de repostar, spriete bien la tapsdel depbsito de combustible.

Antes de arrancsr, apsrte siempre iamaquina del iugar y de Is fuente derepostaje.

Seque minuciosamente alrededor de las tapas de losdep6sitos. Limpie regularmente los dep6sitos decombustible y de aceite pars cadena. Cambie el filtro decombustible una vez al afio como mfnimo. La suciedad en

Transporte y almacenamiento

. Almacene la motosierra y el combustible de forms queno hays riesgo de que los eventuales vapores y fugasentren en contacto con chispas o llamas. Por ejemplo,cerca de mAquinas electricas, motores electricos,contactos/interruptores el6ctricos, calderas decalefacci6n o similares.

Pars el almacenamiento del combustible deben

utilizarse recipientes especiales homologados.

En caso de almacenamiento o transporte de lamotosierra por tiempo prolongado, deberAn vaciarselos dep6sitos de combustible y aceite pars cadena.Consulte con la gasolinera m_ts cercana sobre quehacer con el combustible y aceite de cadenasobrantes.

Antes del almacenaje prolongado, limpie bien lamb.quina y haga el servicio completo.

La protecci6n de transporte del equipo de corte debeestar siempre montada para el transporte yalmacenamiento de la mAquina, a fin de evitar elcontacto fortuito con la cadena aguda. Una cadena

inm6vil tambien puede causar dafios graves al

usuario u otras personas que Ilegan a la cadena.

Almacenamiento prolongado

Vacle los dep6sitos de combustible y aceite en un lugarbien ventilado. Guarde el combustible en bidones

Seguridad en el uso del homologados yen un lugar seguro. Monte la protecci6nde la espada. Limpie la mb.quina. Vea las instrucciones

combustible del capltulo Programs de mantenimiento.

No reposte nunca la mb.quina con el motor en marcha.

Procure que haya buena ventilaci6n durante elrepostaje y la mezcla de combustible (gasolina yaceite para motores de 2 tiempos).

Antes de arrancar, aparte la m_quina a 3 m comomfnimo del lugar de repostaje.

Nunca arranque la mb.quina:

Si ha derramado sobre la mb.quina combustible oaceite para cadena. Seque cualquier residuo y esperea que se evaporen los restos de combustible.

Si se salpic6 el cuerpo o las ropas, cambie de ropas.Lave las partes del cuerpo que han entrado encontacto con el combustible. Use agua y jab6n.

Si hay fugas de combustible en la m&quina.Compruebe regularmente si hay fugas en la taps deldep6sito o en los conductos de combustible.

Arranque y parada

,_ IATENCION! Antes de arrancar, observe

Io siguiente:

El Irene de cadena debe estar aplieadocuando se arranca ia motosierra, parsreducir el riesgo de contacto con iscadena en rnovimiento al ponerse enmarcha.

Ponga la maquina sabre una superficieestable. Asegurese de tener buenaestabiiidad y de que is cadena no puedatocar ningun objeto.

Asegurese de que no hays tercerosdesautorizados en la zona de trabajo.

Motor frio

Arranque: El freno de cadena debe estar activado alponer en marcha la motosierra. Active el freno moviendola proteccidn contra reculadas hacia delante. (26)

Bombs de combustible: Presione varias veces laburbuja de goma de la bomba de combustible hasta quecomience a Ilenarse de combustible. No es necesario

Estrangulador: Extraiga completamente elestrangulador azul hasta que alcance la posicidnESTRANGULAMIENTO TOTAL. Cuando se extrae al

m&ximo la palanca de estrangulador/ralenti r&pido, elajuste de aceleraci6n correcto se hace automAticamente.(t8)

Aceleracion de arranque: Para la funci6n combinada deestrangulamiento/aceleracidn de arranque ponga elestrangulador en la posici6n de estrangulamiento. (19)

Arranque

Agarre el mango delantero con la mane izquierda. Pise laparte inferior del mango trasero con el pie derecho ypresione la motosierra contra el suelo. (22)

Agarre la empufladura de arranque con la mane derechay tire lentamente del cord6n hasta que note resistencia(cuando se conecten los ganchos de arranque). Luego,de tirones rapidos y fuertes hasta que el motor arranque.Nunca enrosque el cordon de arranque alrededor deJamane.

iNOTA! No extraiga el cord6n de arranque al m_.ximo, yno suelte la empufladura de arranque si ha extraido todoel cord6n. Ella puede ocasionar averias en la m&quina.

Introduzca el estrangulador en el ajuste <,HALFestrangulador,> en cuanto el motor arranque; air#. unaespecie de soplido. (18)

Reponga con firmeza el cord6n a su posici6n inicial yrepita el intento hasta que el motor arranque. Dado que elfreno de cadena todavia est,. activado, se deben bajar lasrevoluciones del motor Io antes posible a ralentf, y esto seIogra pulsando rApidamente una vez el accionador delestrangulador. No utilice la motosierra hasta que hays comprendido elsignificado de las reculadas y la forma de evitarlas. Vealas instrucciones bajo el t[tulo Medidas preventivas delas reculadas.

No utilice la motosierra hasta que hays comprendido ladiferencia entre las tecnicas de corte con la partesuperior y la parte inferior de la espada. Vea lasinstrucciones de los capltulos Medidas preventivas delas reculadas y Equipo de seguridad de la m&quina.

Utilice el equipo de protecci6n personal. Vea lasinstrucciones bajo el t[tulo "Equipo de protecci6npersonal".

Reglas basicas de seguridad

1 Observe el entorno pars:

Comprobar que no hayan personas, animales, etc.,que puedan influir en su control de la m_tquina.

Impedir que eventuales personas o animales puedanentrar en contacto con la cadena o sean alcanzadas

o lesionadas por un Arbol derribado.

iNOTA! Siga las instrucciones mencionadas arriba y noutilice la motosierra sin que hays alguien a quien recurriren caso de accidente.

2 No trabaje en condiciones atmosfericasdesfavorables como niebla, Iluvia intensa, tempestad,fr[o intenso, etc. El trabajo con mal tiempo es fatigosoy puede crear circunstancias peligrosas, comoterreno resbaladizo, cambio imprevisto de la direcci6nde derribo de los Arboles, etc.

3 Proceda con sumo cuidado en el corte de ramas

pequeflas y evite cortar arbustos (= varias ramas almismo tiempo). Despues del corte, las ramaspequeflas pueden atascarse en la cadena, serlanzadas hacia Ud. y herirle de gravedad.

4 Compruebe que pueda caminar y mantenerse de piecon seguridad. Vea si hay eventuales impedimentospars desplazamientos imprevistos (ra[ces, piedras,ramas, fosos, zanjas, etc.). Proceda con sumocuidado al trabajar en terreno inclinado.

5 Sea sumamente cuidadoso al cortar en b.rboles en

tensi6n. Un Arbol en tensi6n puede, tanto antes comodespues de terminar de cortar, volver a su posici6nnormal. Si Ud. o el corte estAn mal ubicados, el b.rbolpuede golpearlo a Ud.o a la mb.quina y hacerle perderel control. Las dos situaciones pueden ocasionardaflos personales graves.

6 Pars los desplazamientos, bloquee la cadena con elfreno de cadena y pare el motor. Lleve la motosierracon la espada y cadena orientadas hacia atrb.s. Parslos desplazamientos largos y los transportes utilicesiempre la protecci6n de la espada.

7 Cuando ponga la motosierra en el suelo, bloquee lacadena de sierra con el freno de cadena y no pierdade vista la motosierra. Para el 'estacionamiento

prolongado', se debe parar el motor.

Reglas basicas

1 Entendiendo las implicaciones y causas de lareculada, Ud. puede reducir o eliminar sorpresas queincrementen el riesgo de accidente. La mayoria dereculadas son pequefias, aunque algunas sonrapid[simas y muy violentas.

2 Sujete siempre la motosierra con firmeza, con lamano derecha en el mango trasero y la manoizquierda en el mango delantero, agarrando losmangos con todos los dedos. Este agarre debenutilizarlo todos los usuarios, incluso los zurdos. Esteagarre es la mejor forma de reducir el efecto de unareculada y, al mismo tiempo, mantener el control de lamotosierra, iNo suelte los mangos! (27)

3 La mayorla de los accidentes por reculada seproducen al desramar. Procure trabajar con una

postura estable y queen el suelo no hayan objetosclue puedan hacerle tropezar y perder el equilibrio.

Si se trabaja con negligencia, el sector de riesgo dereculada de la espada puede tocar involuntariamenteuna rama, un Arbol u otro objeto y producir unareculada.

Controle la pieza de trabajo. Si las piezas de trabajoclue sierra son peclueflas y ligeras, pueden atascarseen la cadena de sierra y ser lanzadas contra usted.Esto, aunque no es necesariamente peligroso, puedesorprenderle y hacerle perder el control de lamotosierra. No sierre nunca troncos apilados ni ramassin separarlos antes. Sierre solamente los troncos detrozo en trozo. Aparte los trozos aserrados paramantener segura su zona de trabajo.

4 No utilice nunca la motosierra per encims de loshombres y evite cortsr con ia punts de Isrnotosierrs, iNo utiiice Runes Is motosierrs conuna sols manet (30)

5 Para obtener mb.ximo control de la motosierra, esnecesario adoptar una posici6n estable. No trabajenunca subido a una escalera, trepado a un b.rbol o enuna posici6n clue carezca de una base firme. (31)

6 Corte con velocidad de cadena alta, acelerando almb.ximo.

7 Para cortar con la parte superior de la espada, ensentido ascendente desde la parte inferior del objetoa cortar, proceda con muchlsimo cuidado. AI trabajarcon esta tecnica, Ilamada de cadena impelente, lacadena empuja la motosierra hacia atrAs, hacia elusuario. Si la cadena de sierra se atasca, la

motosierra puede ser lanzada hacia atras contrausted.

8 Si el usuario no resiste la fuerza de la motosierra,puede ocurrir clue esta retroceda tanto clue el sectorde riesgo de reculada de la espada toque el Arbol y seproduzca una reculada. (32)

El corte con la parte inferior de la espada, en sentidodescendente desde la parte superior del objeto acortar, se denomina de corte con cadena tirante. Lamotosierra es tirada hacia el Arbol y el canto delanterodel cuerpo se apoya contra el tronco. Con esta tecnicade cadena tirante, el usuario controla mejor lamotosierra y la situaci6n del sector de riesgo dereculada de la espada.

9 Siga las instrucciones de afilado y mantenimiento dela espada y la cadena. AI cambiar la espada y lacadena s61o deben utilizarse las combinacionesrecomendadas per nosotros. Vea las instruccionesbajo los tltulos Equipo de corte y Dates tecnicos.

Despues de cada corte de sierra, suelte el aceleradory deje el motor en vac[o (la aceleraci6n mb.ximaprolongada sin carga, es decir sin que el motor tengala resistencia de la cadena en el aserrado, produceaver[a grave del motor).

Corte descendente = con cadena "tirante".

Corte ascendente = con cadena "impelente".

La tecnica con cadena "impelente" supone un mayorriesgo de reculada. Vea las instrucciones bajo el t[tuloMedidas preventivas de las reculadas.

Designsciones

Tronzado = denominaci6n generica del corte transversalde la madera.

Desramado = corte de las ramas de un b.rbol talado.

Partici6n = rotura del objeto clue se corta antes deconcluir el corte.

Psra los trsbsjos de tronzado deben tenerse en

cuents cinco fsctores muy importsntes:

1 El equipo de corte no debe quedar apretado en elsurco.

2 El objeto clue se corta no debe partirse.

3 Durante el tronzado y despues del mismo, la cadenade la sierra no debe tocar el suelo ni objeto alguno.

4 _Hay riesgo de reculada?

5 _Puede la configuraci6n del terreno y el entorno influiren su estabiiidad y seguridad para caminar ymantenerse de pie?

El atasco de la cadena y la partici6n del objeto de cortepueden deberse a dos factores: el apoyo del objeto antesy despues del tronzado, y si el objeto a cortar estA tense.

En la mayoria de cases, estos factores pueden evitarseefectuando el tronzado en dos etapas: per arriba y perabajo. As[ se neutraliza la propensi6n del objeto a cortara apretar la cadena o a partirse.

A continuacidn, se indica un listado te6rico de la forma detratar las situaciones mAs comunes con que puedeenfrentarse un usuario de motosierra.

Desramado

Para cortar ramas gruesas deben aplicarse los mismosprincipios que para el tronzado.

Corte las ramas dificiles por partes.

Si hay una pila de troncos, se debe separar de ella cadatronco que se va a cortar, colocarlo en un soporte paraserrar guiadera y cortarlo por separado.

Aparte los trozos cortados de la zona de trabajo. Si losdeja en la zona de trabajo, aumenta el riesgo de reculadapor equivocaci6n y el riesgo de perder el equilibriocuando trabaja.

El tronco en el suelo. No hay riesgo de atasco de lacadena o de partici6n del objeto de corte. Sin embargo,hay un riesgo considerable de que la cadena toque elsuelo despues del corte.

Corte desde arriba todo el tronco. AI final del corte,proceda con cuidado para evitar que la cadena toque elsuelo. Mantenga la aceleracion maxima y est_ alerta a Ioque va a pasar. (33)

Si es posible (_,puede girarse el tronco?), termine el cortea 2/3 del diAmetro del tronco.

Gire el tronco para cortar el tercio restante desde arriba.

El troneo esta apoyado en un extremo. Gran riesgo departici6n.

Empiece cortando desde abajo (aproximadamente 1/3del diAmetro del tronco).

Termine el corte desde arriba, hasta que se encuentrenlos dos surcos.

El tronco esta apoyado en ambos extremos. Granriesgo de atasco de la cadena.

Empiece cortando desde arriba (aproximadamente 1/3del diAmetro del tronco).

Termine el corte desde abajo, hasta que se encuentrenlos dos surcos.

Tecnica de tala

ilMPORTANTE! La tala de Arboles requiere muchaexperiencia. Un usuario de motosierra inexperto nodebe talar Arboles. iEvite los trabajos para los que no seconsidere suficientemente capacitado!

Distancia de seguridad

La distancia de seguridad entre el Arbol a talar y el lugarde trabajo m_ts cercano debe ser de 2,5 longitudes deArbol. AsegOrese de que no haya nadie en esta "zona deriesgo" antes de la tala y durante la misma. (39)

Direccion de derribo

El derribo tiene por objeto la colocaci6n del b.rbol deforma que el desramado y tronzado subsiguientespuedan efectuarse en un terreno Io mAs "f&cil" posible. Eltalador debe poder caminar y mantenerse de pie conseguridad.

Cuando haya decidido en que direcci6n quiere derribar el&rbol, debe considerar la direcci6n natural de ca[da delmismo.

Esta depende de varios factores:

Inclinaci6n

Torcimiento

Direcci6n del viento

Concentraci6n de las ramas

Peso de la nieve, si la hay

Obstaculos dentro del alcance del Arbol: como otros

b.rboles, cables electricos, paredes y edificios.

. Compruebe si el tronco tiene dafios o podredumbre,que aumentan la probabilidad de que el Arbol serompa y empiece a caer antes de Io previsto.

Una vez considerados estos factores, puede verseobligado a dejar que el Arbol caiga en su direcci6nnatural, ya que es imposible, o demasiado arriesgado,intentar colocarlo en la direcci6n decidida en un principio.

Otro factor muy importante, que no afecta a la direcci6nde derribo pero s[ a su seguridad personal, es el controlde que el Arbol no tenga ramas dafiadas o "muertas" quepuedan romperse por si solas y daflarle a Ud. durante latala.

Ante todo, debe evitarse que el Arbol derribado seatasque en otro Arbol. Es muy peligroso retirar un b.rbolatascado y hay un elevado riesgo de accidente. Vea lasinstrucciones bajo el fitulo Tratamiento de una tala fallida.

Corte de ramas bajas y camino de retirada

Desrame el ronco hasta la altura del hombre. Es m&s

seguro trabajar de arriba a abajo y tener el tronco entreusted y la motosierra.

Limpie la vegetaci6n que hay alrededor del _trbol y eliminelos eventuales obst&culos (piedras, ramas, huecos, etc.)para tener preparado un camino de retirada cuandoempiece a caer el &rbol. El camino de retirada debe estara unos 135', oblicuamente hacia atr&s, de la direcci6n dederribo prevista. (40)

La tala se hace con tres cortes. Se empieza con el cortede indicaci6n, compuesto por un corte superior y un corteinferior; y se termina con el corte de derribo. Con laubicaci6n correcta de estos cortes puede controlarse congran exactitud la direcci6n de derribo.

Corte de indicacibn

El corte de indicaci6n se inicia con el corte superior.SitOese a la derecha del b.rbol y corte con cadena tirante.

Luego, efectL_eel corte inferior, que debe terminarexactamente donde termin6 el corte superior. (41)

La profundidad del corte de indicaci6n debe ser igual a 1/4 del dib.metro del tronco, y el Angulo entre los cortessuperior e inferior debe ser de 45" como m[nimo.

La convergencia de ambos cortes se denomina linea decorte de indicaci6n. La I[nea de corte de indicaci6n debe

ser perfectamente horizontal y formar un Angulo recto(90") con la direcci6n de derribo elegida. (42)

Corte de derribo

El corte de derribo se hace en el lado opuesto del Arbol ydebe ser perfectamente horizontal. SitL_esea la izquierdadel b.rbol y corte con cadena tirante.

SitQe el corte de derribo a unos 3-5 cm (1,5-2 pulgadas)por encima del piano horizontal del corte de indicaci6n.

El corte de derribo debe quedar paralelo con la I[nea decorte de indicaci6n, con una distancia minima entre

ambos de 1/10 del diAmetro del tronco. La parte deltronco sin cortar se denomina faja de desgaje.

La faja de desgaje funciona como una bisagra que dirigela direcci6n de derribo del Arbol. (44)

Se pierde completamente el control de la direcci6n dederribo del Arbol si la faja de desgaje es demasiadopequefia o se atraviesa al cortar, o si los cortes deindicaci6n y derribo estb.n mal situados.

Cuando est_tn terminados los cortes de indicaci6n y dederribo, el b.rbol debe empezar a caer; bien por s[ solo, ocon ayuda de la cufla de derribo o de la barradesgajadora.

Recomendamos emplear una Iongitud de espada mayorque el diAmetro del tronco para que los cortes de derriboe indicaci6n se puedan hacer con un "corte sencillo". Vealas instrucciones del cap[tulo Datos tecnicos en Ioreferente alas longitudes de espada recomendadas parasu modelo de motosierra.

Hay t6cnicas para la tala de Arboles con diAmetros detronco mAs grandes que la Iongitud de la espada. Estastecnicas conllevan un riesgo considerable de que elsector de riesgo de reculada de la espada toque unobjeto.

Tratamiento de una tala fallida

Derribo de un arbol "atascado"

Es muy peligroso retirar un b.rbol atascado y hay unelevado riesgo de accidente.

No intente nunca cortar b.rboles talados apoyados sobreotros.

No trabaje nunca dentro de la zona de riesgo de b.rbolestalados atascados y suspendidos.

El metodo mb.s seguro es utilizar un torno.

Montado en un tractor

Corte de arboles y ramas tensos

Preparativos: Estime el sentido de la tensi6n y d6ndetiene su punto de ruptura (es decir, el punto en el que serompeffa si se siguiera tensando).

Determine la forma mAs segura de soltar la tensi6n ytambien, si Ud. puede hacerlo. En situaciones muycomplicadas, el Linico metodo seguro consiste en utilizarun torno en vez de la motosierra.

Generalidades:

SitOese de modo que no haya riesgo de que seaalcanzado por el tronco/la rama cuando se suelte.

Haga uno o varios cortes en el punto de ruptura o cercadel mismo. Corte a la profundidad requerida y con elnL_merode cortes necesarios para que la tensi6n deltronco/la rama se suelte Io suficiente para que el tronco/la rama se "parta" en el punto de ruptura.

iNo torte nunca del todo un objeto en tension!

Si necesita cortar a traves del Arbol/rama, haga dos o trescortes con una separaci6n de 3 cm y una profundidad de3a5cm.

Contint_e serrando a mAs profundidad hasta que soltar lafuerza y la tensi6n del Arbol/rama.

Sierre el Arbol/rama desde el lado opuesto despues desoltar la tensi6n.

_,Que es la reculada?

Reculada es la denominaci6n de una reacci6n repentinapor la que la motosierra y la espada salen despedidas deun objeto que ha entrado en contacto con el cuadrantesuperior de la punts de la espada, denominado sector deriesgo de reculada. (32)

La reculada sigue siempre el sentido del piano de laespada. Lo ma.scom0n es que la motosierra y la espadareboten hacia atras en sentido ascendente, hacia elusuario. Tambien hay otros sentidos de reculadadependiendo de la posici6n de la motosierra en elmomento en que el sector de riesgo de reculada de laespada toca un objeto.

La reculada s61o puede producirse cuando el sector deriesgo de reculada de la espada toca un objeto. (45)

Desrarnado

A iATI=NCION! La mayoria de accidentes

por reculada oourren al desramar. Nouse el sector de riesgo de reculada de laespada. Proceda con sumo cuidado yevite que la punts de la espada entretoque en el tronco, en otras tames o enobjetos, Proceda con sumo cuidado conlas rarnas sue estan tensadas. Pueden

ser despedidas contra usted y hacerleperder el control, con el riesgoconsiguiente de da_os.

Cerci6rese de que pueda caminar y mantenerse de piecon seguridad! Trabaje desde el lado izquierdo del tronco.Trabaje Io mas cerca posible de la motosierra paramb.ximo control. Cuando sea posible, descargue el pesode la motosierra apoyAndola en el tronco.

Generalidades

El usuario s61o puede efectuar los trabajos demantenimiento y servicio descritos en este manual. Lostrabajos de mayor envergadura debe efectuarlos un tallerde servicio oficial.

Ajuste del carburadorSu producto ha sido dise_ado y fabricado conforme aespecificaciones que reducen las emisiones nocivas.

Funcionamiento

El regimen del motor se controla mediante elacelerador y el carburador. En el carburador seefect0a la dosificaci6n de la mezcla de aire ycombustible. La mezcla de air/combustible no esajustible excepto por un t6cnico capacitado. Paraobtener la potencia m_txima de la m#,quina, el reglajede la dosificaciOn debe ser correcto.

Con el tornillo T se regula la posici6n del aceleradoren ralenti. El ralenti se aumenta girando el tornillo Ten el sentido de las agujas del reloj y se reducegirandolo en sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj.

Reglaje basico y rodaje

El reglaje b_tsico del carburador se Ileva a cabo en laspruebas que se hacen en f&brica. El ajuste fino debe serIlevada a cabo por un tecnico capacitado.

Reglaje preciso del ralenti, tornilloT

El ralenti se regula con el tornillo marcado con unaT. Pararegular, enrosque (en el sentido de las agujas del reloj) eltornillo T con el motor en marcha hasta que empiece agirar la cadena. A continuaci6n, desenrosque (en sentidocontrario alas agujas del reloj) hasta que la cadena separe. El reglaje del r_gimen de ralenti es correcto cuandoel motor funciona regularmente en todas las posiciones,habiendo un buen margen hasta el r_gimen en queempieza a girar la cadena.

Control, mantenimiento y serviciodel equipo de seguridad de lamotosierra

Aclaraci6n! Para todos los trabajos de servicio yreparaci6n de la m&quina es necesaria unacapacitaci6n especial. Esto es especialmente aplicableal equipo de seguridad. Si la m&quina no da resultadossatisfactorios en alguno de los controles de la listaabajo, le recomendamos que acuda a un taller deservicio. Todas las medidas de mantenimiento que noesten indicadas en este manual deben ser efectuadas

por una tienda autorizada con servicio (distribuidor).

Pare el motor y quite el cable de encendido antes deuna reparaci6n o mantenimiento

Freno de cadena con protecci6n contrareculadas

Control del desgaste de la cinta de freno

Limpie el freno de cadena y el tambor de embrague deserrin, resina y suciedad. La suciedad y el desgasteperjudican la funci6n de frenado. (34)

Controle regularmente que el punto m&s desgastado dela cinta de freno tenga un minimo de 0.024" (0,6 mm) degrosor.

Control de la proteccion contra reculadas

Compruebe que la protecci6n contra reculadas esteintacta, sin defectos visibles como, por ejemplo, grietas.

Empuje la protecci6n contra reculadas adelante y atrb.spara comprobar que se mueve con facilidad y que estb.firmemente anclada a su articulaci6n en la cubierta del

embrague. (35)

Control de la funcibn de inercia

Control del efecto de frenado

Coloque la motosierra sobre una base firme y arr&nquela.Fijese que la cadena no entre en contacto con el suelo uotro objeto. Consulte las instrucciones bajo el tituloArranque y parada.

Sostenga la motosierra con firmeza, agarrando losmangos con todos los dedos.

Acelere al m&ximo y active el freno de cadena girando lamuSeca izquierda hacia la protecci6n contra reculadas.No suelte el mango delantero. La cadena debedetenerse inmediatamente.

Fiador del aceierador

Compruebe que el acelerador est6 bloqueado en laposici6n de ralentl cuando el fiador estA en suposici6n inicial.

Apriete el fiador del acelerador y compruebe quevuelva a su posici6n de partida al soltarlo.

Compruebe que el acelerador y el fiador se muevancon facilidad y que funcionen sus muelles de retorno.

Arranque la motosierra y acelere al mb.ximo. Suelte elacelerador y compruebe que la cadena se pare ypermanezca inm6vil. Si la cadena gira con elacelerador en la posici6n de ralentf debe controlarseel reglaje de ralent[ del carburador.

Captor de cadena

Compruebe que el captor de cadena este intacto y queest6 firmemente montado al cuerpo de la motosierra.

Proteccion de la mano derecha

Compruebe que la protecci6n de la mano derecha esteintacta, sin defectos visibles como, por ejemplo, grietas.

Sistema amortiguador de vibraciones

Compruebe regularmente que los elementosantivibraciones no esten agrietados o deformados.

Compruebe que los elementos antivibraciones esten bienanclados entre la parte del motor y la parte de losmangos, respectivamente.

Bot6n de parada

Arranque el motor y compruebe que se pare cuando semueve el bot6n de parada a la posici6n de parada. (28)

Silenciador

Nunca utilice una mAquina que tenga un silenciadordefectuoso. Compruebe regularmente que el silenciadoreste firmemente montado en la mAquina.

Aclaraci6n: La rejilla de parachispas (A) de esta mAquinaes reparable. Si la rejilla tiene desperfectos, cb.mbiela.Con una rejilla obturada, la mAquina se sobrecalienta y seaverfan el cilindro y el pist6n. No utilice nunca la mAquinasi el silenciador estA en real estado. Nunca utilice un

silenciador sin una rejilla apagachispas o con unarejilla apagachispas defectuosa. (7)

Tras 75 horas de use, le recomendamos que solicite a sudistribuidor que sustituya el silenciador.

Para una limpieza a fondo del filtro, Ib.velo en aguajabonosa.

Un filtro utilizado durante mucho tiempo no puedelimpiarse del todo. Pot tanto, hay que cambiarlo aintervalos regulares. Un filtro de aire averiado debecarnbiarse.

BujiaLos factores siguientes afectan al estado de la bujia:

. Carburador real regulado.

Mezcla de aceite inadecuada en el combustible

(demasiado aceite o aceite inadecuado).

Filtro de aire sucio.

Estos factores producen revestimientos en los electrodosde la bujfa que pueden ocasionar perturbaciones delfuncionamiento y dificultades de arranque.

Si la potencia de la mb.quina es demasiado baja, si esdiffcil arrancar la mAquina o si el ralent[ es irregular:revise primero la bujia antes de tomar otras medidas. Sila bujfa estA muy sucia, Ifmpiela y compruebe que laseparaci6n de los electrodos sea de 0,5 ram. La bujfadebe cambiarse aproximadamente despues de un ruesde funcionamiento o mAs a menudo si es necesario. (38)

Aclaraci6n! iUtilice siempre el tipo de bujfa recomendado!Una bujfa incorrecta puede arruinar el pist6n y el cilindro.Aseg0rese de que la bujfa tenga supresi6n deperturbaciones radioel6ctricas.

Depuracibn centrifuga "CCS"Con la depuraci6n centrifuga, todo el aire que va alcarburador entra (es absorbido) a traves del mecanismode arranque. El ventilador de enfriamiento evac0acentrffugamente la suciedad y el polvo.

ilMPORTANTE! Para que la depuraci6n centrffugafuncione satisfactoriamente, debe efectuarse un

mantenimiento constante del sistema. Limpie la toma deaire del mecanismo de arranque, las palas de ventiladordel volante, el espacio alrededor del volante, el tubo deadmisi6n y el compartimiento del carburador.

No confie exciusivamente en los

dispositivos de seguridad de sumotosierra, Usted, come usuario demetosierra, debe temar varias medidaspara que sos trabajos de certe nocomporten riesgo de accidentes y dafiospersonales.

No utilice una motosierra si estb. fatigado.

Use calzado, ropas ce_idas, guantes protectores yprotecciones de ojos, auriculares y de cabeza.

Proceda con cuidado al manipular combustible. Aparte lamotosierra a come m[nimo 3 metros del lugar derepostaje antes de poner en marcha el motor.

No permita la presencia de otras personas cerca de lamotosierra al ponerla en marcha o al cortar. Mantenga alos espectadores y animales fuera de la zona de trabajo.

No empiece a cortar sin tener la zona de trabajo est6despejada, los pies firmemente en el suelo y una ruta deretirada del b.rbol abatido.

Mantenga todas las partes de su cuerpo apartadas decadena de la motosierra cuando funciona el motor.

Antes de poner en marcha el motor, compruebe que lacadena de la motosierra no toca en nada.

Transporte la motosierra con el motor parade, la espaday la cadena en la parte trasera y el silenciador apartadode su cuerpo.

No utilice una motosierra que este da_ada,incorrectamente ajustada o que no este armadacompletamente y de forma segura. Compruebe que lacadena de la motosierra deja de moverse cuando sesuelta el acelerador.

Pare el motor antes de colocar la motosierra en el suelo.

Proceda con suma precauci6n al cortar arbustos yarbolitos pequefios porque podria agarrarse material fineen la cadena y ser lanzado contra usted o hacerle perderel equilibrio.

Cuando corte una rama tensada, preste atenci6n alretorno para que no le golpee cuando se suelta la tensi6nen las fibras de madera.

Mantenga las empufiaduras secas, limpias y libres deaceite o mezcla de combustible.

No utilice una motosierra en un b.rbol.

No utilice una motosierra en un _.rbol si no ha side

especialmente formado para ello.

No utilice una motosierra per encima de la altura delhombre.

Todos los trabajos de servicio de una motosierra, exceptolos que se indican en las instrucciones de seguridad ymantenimiento del manual del operador/propietario,deben ser realizados per tecnicos de servicio demotosierras competentes. (Per ejemplo, si se utilizanherramientas inadecuadas para desmontar el volante o sise usa una herramienta inadecuada para sujetar elvolante cuando se desmonta el embrague, puedenproducirse dafios estructurales en el volante que causenla rotura del mismo.)

Para transportar la motosierra, utilice la protecci6n deespada adecuada.
