KEYNOTE TRADERS’ PANELADAPT OR DIE: PROFILING THE MODERN DAY TRADING HOUSEWith bankers prioritising quality over quantity when it comes to financing
deals, we’re seeing traders face increasingly competitive margins. We ask this panel of global traders to provide their views on the drivers behind current market forces and explain their strategies for staying ahead in an increasingly competitive market:
• What opportunities does the current high volatility climate present to traders?
• Faced with increasingly transparent markets and compressed margins, how are traders adapting their business models and becoming more downstream focused?
• Is consolidation and a focus towards scale necessary for the health of the market?
• Which financing structures are proving popular and how does this differ
region to region?
• What lessons can be learned from defaults and losses from high profile traders in 2018?
• How are traders utilising their financing knowledge to structure deals for other traders?
• How important is reputational risk when it comes to accessing cheap debt?
• How is investment in technology helping to drive down costs and improve profitability?Olivier Boujol, MD/VP & Global Head - Structured Trade Finance, Archer Daniels MidlandTawfik Sadfi, Head of Finance, GunvorPhilippe Penet, CFO & Treasurer, SucafinaAlexander Peters , Finance Director, Arrow Metals AGModerator: Hesham Zakai, Managing Director, TXF

PRODUCER PERSPECTIVESIS CONSOLIDATION AMONGST
TRADERS A CAUSE FOR CONCERN?When it comes to accessing financing, commodity producers have tradition-ally relied on their relationships with trading houses in order to market themselves. Consolidation amongst traders poses a serious risk to produc-ers being able to maintain the credit lines which form their lifeblood. This panel of small, medium and large com-modity producers provide an insight into current market dynamics and discuss the important role that trader financing provides to them:
• How has access to and cost of financing changed for producers in
recent years?
• How does this differ across small,
medium and large traders?
• How is technology helping produc-ers take advantage of transparent market information and demand fair
prices?
• Have there been any shifts in the
costs of production?
• Have producers been helped or hin-
dered by geopolitical current affairs?
• What are the key risks for produc-ers today?Pierpaolo Di Fabio, CFO, KME Group
INSURING THE NEW COMMODITIES CYCLETHE EVOLVING RISK MITAGION DEMANDS OF TRADERS & PRODUCERSAs the commodity trading landscape continues to evolve, so too do the risk mitigation demands of traders and producers. This panel of insurance buyers and providers discuss how the insurance market can continue to best serve the risk mitigation needs of the commodity finance market and safe-guard its future.
• Which sectors are proving popular for insurance requests and which juris-dictions are insurers avoiding?
• How are the demands of traders and producers evolving when it comes to the sophistication of insurance coverage?
• How are insurers evolving the way they assess potential clients?
• What measures can corporates take to ensure they have better access to insurance?
• How are insurers managing their exposure relative to capital relief and how will this be impacted by Basel IV?Robert Frank, Global Head of Insurance/Risk Mitigation, Gerald GroupSimon Bessant, Director, Texel Finance
PLENARY STREAMMANAGING RISK IN A GLOBALISED
COMMODITY MARKET
NAVIGATING THE SANCTIONS LANDSCAPEThe recent re-imposition of US sanc-tions on Iran brings this topic back to the fore. From Russia to Cuba to Iran, this workshop helps you map out the current sanctions climate and provides practical advice for staying compliant when operating a doing deals in sanc-tioned jurisdictions.
LUNCH
FINANCING TRENDSWHAT’S KEEPING BANKERS UP AT NIGHT?According to TXF data, deal volumes across the market fell by 6% in 2018 year-on-year and total deals closed fell by one third. A cocktail of market volatility, geopolitical tensions, increasing competition from alternative liquidity sources and changing shareholder demands is clearly causing a flight to quality from commodity finance banks. We ask global heads to state their mandate and explain the key drivers behind their financing decisions.
• How can banks continue to supply cheap funding whilst still satisfying shareholder demands?
• How are approaches to financing differing region to region and bank to bank?
• Which deal structures are proving popular and does the increase in SCTF refinancings into the bond market signal the end of structured finance?
• Would the banking market benefit from increased transparency and the sharing of bilateral deal data?John MacNamara, Managing Director, Global Head of Structured Commodity Trade Finance, Deutsche BankKris Van Broekhoven, Managing Director, Global Head of Commodity Trade Finance, CitiHarris Antoniou, CEO, Amsterdam Trade BankMaarten Koning, Lead Head Structured Commodities Finance, ING BankBob Angliss, Deputy Head of Commodity Centre, Bank of ChinaKarel Valken, Global Head TCF Agri, RabobankModerator: Jean-Francois Lambert, CEO, Lambert Commodities

BLOCKCHAIN & DIGITISATION MARKET MOVERS PERFECT 10 DEAL
CASE STUDIES
HARVESTING THE BENEFITS OF BLOCKCHAINWith approximately 30% of bulk commodities being lost due to inefficiencies in the supply chain, soft commodity tradingis ripe for innovation. Blockchain technology has often been touted as a way of streamlining the ‘farm to fork’ process andincreasing efficiency, transparency and security in all aspects of the supply chain. This session looks at real life examples ofhow this is being done and provides advice on how your company can begin to implement these processes.
THIS IS A CARBON FREE ZONE RIDING THE LNG WAVEAs consumer demands shift to cleaner, more sustainable forms of energy, the movement towards decarbonisation is gathering pace. One of the beneficiaries of this movement has been the liquified natural gas market and with China recently announcing its plan to quadruple imports over the next four years, the boom is seemingly set to continue.
Join your peers in a discussion on the latest movements in the shift towards decarbonisations and find out what opportunities are being presented to those investing in the LNG market.
PERFECT 10 DEAL OF THE YEARThe TXF Perfect 10 Deal of the Year Awards aim to recognise and reward innovation in the commodity finance industry. This case study session is a chance to hear what it takes to put together a winning deal. Bankers, borrowers and law firms share their experiences of working on the deal and answer any and all of your questions.
The deal in focus will be revealed in February, upon announcement of the award winners.

HOW MINEHUB ARE TRANSFORMING THE METALS & MINING VALUE CHAINThe $1.8 trillion global metals and mining market is synonymous with complexity. The process of transporting products along the supply chain is traditionally characterised by manual processes, fraud and delays. With the launch of Minehub’s latest blockchain based platform, this is soon to change. This session looks at how the metals and mining industry is undergoing a transformational change at the hands of blockchain and what it could mean for market players:• What is the timeframe for implementation of the platform and when can we expect to see the first transaction completed?• What are the inherent challenges involved along the metals and mining supply chain and what makes blockchain the perfect solution to these? • As and when new platforms are launched, how can we ensure interoperability across the ecosystem from corporate producers operating in the developing world all the way to global banking institutions?
ALL ABOARD THE ELECTRIC BANDWAGONTHE RISE OF THE EV METALS: CO, Li, C, Ni, CuWith sales of electric vehicles forecast to hit 11 million by 2025, traders are looking to jump on the electric bandwagon and capitalise on the rising demand for EV metals. However, with half of the world’s cobalt reserves being produced in the dangerously unstable DRC and with China restricting their exports of rare-earths, how are traders navigating these challenges? Join your peers in a discussion on the EV metal revolution and find out how your company could benefit from this exciting market mover.

DAY 2
DEAL OR NO DEALA PRACTICAL GUIDE TO FINANCINGA staple of TXF events, this session is a fun and interactive way to look at pricing and deal making. We present a panel of industry experts with a series of hypothetical commodity finance deals. Their task is to decide whether they would do the deal and, if so, how they would price it.
STATE OF THE MARKETTHE KEY DRIVERS BEHIND RECENT MARKET VOLATILITYAs geopolitical tensions continue to rise, uncertainty and volatility remains a key
feature of the commodities markets. This presentation highlights some of the
primary drivers behind recent market volatility. Examples include:
• The fall in US ethanol exports to Brazil from 24 million gallons a month to
4000 gallons a month.
• The state of the UK gas market in the wake recent market defaults.
• Global LNG flows and the movement towards decarbonisation.
• The electric vehicle hype and the subsequent boom of cobalt and lithium.

COCKTAIL RECEPTION, INDUSTRY DINNER & PERFECT 10 DEALS OF THE YEAR AWARD CEREMONYJoin us after day one for our famous industry dinner and the Perfect 10 awards ceremony. is it? This is a chance to network in a relaxed atmosphere with drinks, food and maybe even some dancing.
INDUSTRY DUELTHIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT CONSOLIDATION IS A NECESSARY EVIL2018 was an unprecedented year for consolidation in both the insurance and commodities markets. As competition in these markets intensifies, this trend could be set to continue. The first of our oxford style debates pits two teams against each other to argue whether consolidation is ultimately beneficial for the future health of the commodity market. The team that manages to sway the largest proportion of the audience will be deemed the winner.
COMMODITY FUND FALLOUT: SEEKING DIVINE REDEMPTIONAs we witness a flight to quality from banks in response to stringent Basel capital requirements, the alternative finance space is often the only viable option for small and medium sized traders looking to finance projects in riskier jurisdictions. However, a spate of redemptions from key institutional investors in the commodity fund market and the winding down of BAF Capital’s BLTFF fund, raises serious questions over the viability of this product type. We ask fund managers, institutional investors and borrowers to share their views on the development of the alternative financing space:
• How are funds set to contend with rising global interest rates?
• How are funds appealing to institutional investors to fill the shortfall left by Shinhan Capital’s $1.3 billion redemption?
• What is driving investors to redeem their capital and is it always an indication of poor performance?
• In light of BAF Capital’s retreat from the commodity finance space, is consoli-dation amongst funds an inevitable eventuality?
• What benefits does the alternative finance space bring over traditional bank financing for commodity traders and producers?

REGIONAL FOCUSCHINA
Delegates can choose which of these China focused roundtables they would like to attend. Each one will be lead by an expert in their respective field and will highlight the
growing importance of China as a major player in the commodity market.
REGULATORY REVIEWGETTING YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER1. BASEL IVThe proposed tightening of minimum capital requirements under Basel IV is set to come into play in 2019. Serious questions remain over how the impending changes will impact banks’ ability to finance commodity trade, particularly in developing countries. This session is a chance to answer these questions and find out how you should be preparing your business to stay compliant.
2. IMO 2020On 1st January 2020, the International Maritime Organisation will implement a new regulation for a 0.50% global sulphur cap for marine fuels. As stakeholders gear up for the change, major shifts in market forces can be expected bringing with it volatility. This session will help you get your house in order by highlight-ing some of the opportunities that IMO2020 is presenting to the market as well as the potential impact on the cost of trading commodities going forward.
THE US-CHINA TRADE WARWith the US and China locked in a fierce tariff war, the recent 90 day hiatus came as a welcome relief to an escalating situation. Despite this, many questions have been raised off the back of it. One of the principle ones is how China can continue to fund its dollar debt addiction? With $1.2 trillion dollars of debt needed to be rolled over in 2019, could we see a situation in which China moves away from its dollar dependence and become a commodities price setter in its own right?
THE AFRICAN INVESTMENT REVOLUTIONWith China pledging $60 billion towards investment in Africa over the next few years, President Xi is pinning his hopes on the success of a continent traditionally overlooked by the western world. With accusations of modern day colonialism and debt trap diplomacy, questions remain over the legitimacy of China’s interests in the continent.
THE BELT AND ROAD INITIATIVEDubbed the ‘Chinese Marshall Plan’, President Xi’s plan to connect Asia, Africa and Europe through the belt and road initiative is not without its sceptics. In spite of this, it cannot be denied that the initiative is set to transform the way commodities are traded globally.
NETWORKING LUNCH
INDUSTRY DUELTHIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT 2019 WILL SEE THE END OF THE ABCDsMassive inventories, tightening margins and falling profits. This is the grim real-ity facing agri traders in 2019. In the second of our industry duels, two teams of experts will face off to debate the future of the agri trading market, whether or not 2019 will see the end of the ABCD dominance and ultimately whether the traditional pure agri trading model is dead. The team that manages to sway the largest proportion of the audience will be deemed the winner.
CLOSING REMARKSTOP TAKEAWAYS FROM TXF GLOBAL COMMODITY FINANCE 2019Jonathan Bell brings the event to a close by providing a summary of the key discussion points from across the two days. A post-conference report will be shared with delegates after the conference.Jonathan Bell, Editor-in-chief, TXF
