“Many are invited ,
but few are chosen”

At the
end of World War II, the Russian head-of-state gave an elaborate banquet to honor the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The Russians arrived in their best formal wear -- military dress uniforms -- but
their honored guest did not. Churchill arrived wearing his famous zipper coveralls that he had worn during the German bomb attack in London. He thought it would provide a nostalgic touch the Russians would appreciate. They didn’t. They were humiliated and insulted that their prominent guest-of-honor had not considered their banquet worthy of his best clothes. Wearing the right clothing to a formal dinner honors the host and the occasion; neglecting to wear the right clothing is an insult. Weddings were such an important occasion in Palestine in Christ’s days that people were expected to wear the proper clothing to show appreciation and respect for the invitation. In today’s Gospel, Jesus demands and provides the wedding garment of righteousness from his followers. -------------------------------------------------------------------An old couple, having been married almost 60 years, died in a car crash. They had been in good health for the previous ten years mainly due to the wife’s interest in health food, and exercise. When they reached the pearly gates, St. Peter took them to their mansion which was decked out with a beautiful kitchen and master bath suite, Jacuzzi and lavish buffet breakfast. "How much can we eat?" asked the old man. "Don't you understand?" Peter replied. "This is Heaven, it's all free!" After a sumptuous breakfast the old couple went to the clubhouse of Heaven’s extensive golf grounds and saw the lavish buffet lunch. "Well, where are the low-fat and low-cholesterol tables?" the old man asked timidly. Peter replied, "That's the best part...you can eat as much as you like of whatever you like and you never get fat and you never get sick. This is Heaven." The old man looked at his wife angrily and said, "This is all your fault. If it weren't for your bran muffins and sugar-free diet, I could have been here ten years ago!" -------------------------------------------------------------------A little girl came home from Sunday school and said to her mother: “Mummy teacher told us that God puts people in this world so that they can get ready for a big banquet in Heaven.” “Yes, that is right,” she said. “But why doesn’t grandma get ready for that banquet by getting a set of new teeth from her dentist?” Mother replied: “It is because she knows that God will give her a brand new set of strong and beautiful teeth in heaven.”
From the Pastor’s Desk: Al final de la Segunda Guerra
"No entiendes?"

Things not to do when visi!ng The Va!can / Rome
1. Don’t come in June and July, the high peak crowd months. Your precious !me could be wasted in the sluggish pace of the crowds and in July the temperature can be extremely hot and humid making traveling and sightseeing uncomfortable.
2. Rome like many big ci!es is infamous for overcharging tourists on cab fares. Don’t take the illegal, abundant, unmarked, taxis with no meter, or if you do, nego!ate the price before accep!ng the ride. Don’t use the extremely expensive taxis from the airports. A train called the ‘Leonardo Express’ runs every half hour from Flumicino -Leonardo da Vinci Interna!onal Airport to Termini Sta!on in the center of Rome. Ciampino Interna!onal Airport has a shu"le service ‘Terravision’ which will also transport you directly to Termini Sta!on. These op!ons are far more economical and are extremely convenient.
3. Don’t plan to rent a car and drive around Rome unless you have a death wish. There is chao!c madness on the Roman streets. Lanes are just sugges!ons, traffic lights op!onal and forget about trying to park. Try public transit, taxi or walking instead.
4. Don’t stand in line for hours wai!ng to get into the Va!can museum. Instead buy !ckets ahead. Go to the museum on-line site: museiva!cani.va, select the tour that you want, the number of people, date, !me, then purchase !ckets and print them at home. At the museum entrance you may find a line that wraps around the block, but do as the signs direct and go to the front of the line, past the glaring patrons, show the guard the !ckets and he will let you in. Then go to the !cket booth marked “advanced sales” where an a"endant will print your actual !cket.
5. Do not try to enter the Va!can Museum with any: bags, backpacks or luggage measuring more than 15” x 13” x 6”, large umbrellas, those with spike !ps, walking s!cks (unless for disabled) camera or video stands & tripods, signs, knives, scissors, weapons or other dangerous objects, food, or drinks. All of these items must be le% at the cloak-room. You will be required to pass through a metal-detector. You may not enter inappropriately dressed, where your shoulders/arms or lower legs are bare. Don’t take photographs or film inside the Sis!ne Chapel. This rule is strictly enforced and staff are authorized to remove any such photographs or recordings, but you see tourists trying to break this rule all the !me. Expensive restora!on work was done in the 1980s and, to help fund the work, exclusive rights to photography was sold to the Nippon Television Network of Japan. This deal has since expired, but the official rule remains and besides there are lovely photobooks available at the gi% shop. Elsewhere you may take photographs, but not using flash. Do not make sketches or drawings without prior approval. No telephones are allowed inside the Sis!ne Chapel, but elsewhere it is preferred that you not use them. Do not touch any works of art. Alarms and surveillance systems are in use. To be con!nued …
