WE ALL EAT RICE Tuesday 16 March • 11am – 12.30pm Melton Library

Join us to discuss and celebrate various rice recipes from all around the world. We’ll have a cooking demonstration and explore how food connects us. Send us your favourite rice recipe beforehand to include in the booklet [email protected].

HARMONY WEEK

HARMONY TREEMonday 15 March – Sunday 21 March Melton and Caroline Springs Library

Celebrate Harmony Week with a visit to the library and add a message of belonging to our Harmony Tree! Whilst you’re there, pick up a book about various cultures from across the globe from our ‘Window to the World’ book display.

DIGNITY IN A TEACUP AUTHOR TALKSunday 21 March • 2pm – 3pm Melton Library

Join Christine Cummins, as she speaks about Dignity in a teacup, an inspiring memoir about resilience and the tenacity of love. This book fills the gap in our understanding of people pursuing protection in a conflict-ridden world.

Girl Chat is a platform for girls to build confidence and leadership skills whilst networking via peer-to peer mentoring. Girls will gain practical experience to plan and run weekly meetings. Ages 14-25.

If you love music and want to record songs, make beats, or write music whilst hanging out with friends, then join us, and gain practical experience in music making. Ages 12-25.

Stop, Check and Don’t be Fooled! We are running a series of media literacy programs to equip young people with critical thinking skills to judge the reliability and credibility of information they encounter through print, television, and internet.

Participants will interact with each other across a table and assume the role of a character within the game’s imaginary world.

POWER BOX ARTTuesday 9 – 23 March • During daylight hours • Various locations

Four young artists will be painting fantastic artworks on power boxes around the City of Melton as part of a partnership with Powercor during March. Box artworks will be appearing in the neighbourhoods of Burnside Heights, Harkness, Taylor’s Hill and Melton South. Keep a lookout on facebook @imaginemelton for updates.

WATCHING FROM AFARBy: Susumu Matsuura and Thomas C. Chung

3 March – 29 April • During opening hours • CS Gallery

Susumu Matsuura (Japan) and Thomas C. Chung (Australia) present an observational study of the cultural changes caused by COVID-19. Living in separate countries, they tackle the impact of social distancing in different contexts, both in their personal lives, and in the communities around them.

RECLAIM GROUP EXHIBITION16 March – 9 June During opening hours Melton Library and Learning Hub

This group exhibition curated by Karyn Leong features diverse artists in the Melton and Bacchus Marsh region who have charted their artistic response to COVID-19, exploring how local artists used art to reclaim a sense of control over their own individuality and self-expression.

Make sure you pass by CS Gallery and check out the playful new window artwork by Carla McRae. Carla developed a vibrant window mural where children are at the centre of the narrative — playing together, spending time in nature, parks and playgrounds. Do you have a story in you that needs to be set free? Join us and learn the tools you’ll need to create imaginative worlds, colourful characters and stories that leap off the page! With fun writing exercises and helpful hints, we’ll get you on the way to writing a book of your very own. Ages 7-14.

Toddler time has been specifically designed to engage toddlers in all areas of childhood development through singing, stories, movement, literacy, language and play.Toddlers have many opportunities to participate or be an active listener throughout the program in a safe, positive and inclusive environment.

STORYTIME Ages 3-5 years

Preschool-aged kids are curious about everything. Storytime is a great way to introduce children to the wonderful world of books. Sessions include stories, songs, rhymes and an introduction to AUSLAN. All programs are designed for parents to participate with their children.

BABY BOUNCEAges 0-12 months

Baby Bounce is an interactive program that introduces your baby to the sounds, rhythm and movement of language. Babies love songs and rhymes and delight in watching and listening to you sing. Sharing a love of reading, rhymes, singing and talking with your baby is one of the best things you can do to give your baby a head start in life and at school.

Baby Bounce, Toddler Time and Storytime are back! Facilitated in line with government guidelines, places are limited and bookings are essential. Bookings for all sessions open weekly on Friday afternoons. To meet COVID restrictions all participants over the age of twelve months need to make a booking.
