Kennesaw State soccer As Of Late... On Thursday night, the Kennesaw State Owls welcome College of Charleston to Fifth Third Bank Stadium for the home opener of the 2019 campaign. The Owls have started the season with a record of 1-1, their most recent result being a 4-1 win over the Georgia State Panthers last Sunday in Atlanta. The Owls were led to victory over the Pan- thers by a pair of goals from sophomore Kendall Baker as well as goals from Erin Har- ris and Becky Contreras. Assists for the Owls were provided by Isabella Contreras, Emely Sosa, and Kelsey Hahn. The Panthers offense was stalled by the efforts of redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Tif- fany Sornpao, who recorded five saves in the win. The Owls look to continue their run of form against the Cougars from Charleston on Thursday night. Conference Rankings After a week of action, the Owls lead the ASUN Conference with a total of 35 shots and an average of 17.50 per-game. KSU’s five goals and 13 total points also top the confer- ence in totals and averages. Goalkeeper Tiffany Sornpao is third in the league with 11 saves. Coach Speak Head Coach Benji Walton on what to expect this week: “The College of Charleston is a very, very tough opponent. They are always in the conversation when it comes to the best mid- majors in the South. Our current team hasn’t seen them play, and we’ve got to attempt to do the same things defensively that we were trying to do against our first two op- ponents. We’ve got to be able to roll with the punches because this early in the season you never know exactly what you’ll see. We need the same intensity and discipline we had last week.” Scouting College of Charleston The Cougars have also started the season at a modest record of 1-1, defeating Stephen F. Austin by a score of 2-1 on Opening Day. They followed up with a 1-2 loss to Furman this past weekend. The Cougars lost their top goal-scorer from last season, Laura Ortega, but seniors Rachel Kim and Talia Colchico look to take up the reigns and lead the front line for the Cougars this season, both already recording a goal each this season. Last sea- son the Cougars were 11-8-1 and advanced to the CAA Semifinals.
