She was the Office Head at Hyderabad Office, India, from 2012 to 2016. She is a public health specialist by training and has over 35 years of teaching and research experience in the broad area of human and environmental health. She has carried out multidisciplinary research studies on water borne diseases of human and veterinary importance, community health and nutrition, human health impacts of wastewater agriculture, and policy advocacy and action planning linked to urban/peri-urban agriculture, in a number of countries. More recently, her focus has been on urban and peri-urban ecosystems and ecosystem services, with special reference to natural resources utilization by underserved communities. She has worked in different cultural settings and has provided academic supervision and guidance to a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Prior to joining the International Water Management Institute, she was in the University system for 25 years, and brings with her extensive academic and administrative experiences. Her projects have been funded by WHO, NSF, NOAA, EU, SDC, BMGF, ESPA, RUAF and IFAD. Priyanie is a Senior Researcher attached to the International Water Management Institute, at its Head Quarters in Sri Lanka. She was the Office Head at Hyderabad Office, India, from 2012 to 2016. She is a public health specialist by training and has over 35 years of teaching and research experience in the broad area of human and environmental health. Tasks carried out were formulation of course syllabi to internationally acceptable standards, directing physical infrastructure development (a new teaching/research facility funded by the ADB, working in close collaboration with architects, engineers and administrators of both ADB and Sri Lankan government counterparts), and implementing the teaching program. The academic program was lead with the support of a network of colleagues both within and external to the University. This was the first fully fledged undergraduate level molecular biology program in the country that provided high quality training in this technologically important field of science.
