5. LATE NIGHT BASKETBALL FOR YOUTH
Late-night basketball sponsored by Fort Wayne UNITED is a late-night basketball program at the Renaissance Pointe YMCA geared at keeping youth safe during peak crime hours. See Enclosure #5 for more details.

6. CPR/AED TRAINING
Classes are offered free of charge twice a month. Classes will be offered June 6 and June 7 at the Administration Annex, class size is limited and requires pre-registration. If you need this certification for your license renewal, email or call (ext. 7008) Abby Koroncevicius, Health Services Coordinator.

7. IDOE EL SUMMER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: DETAILS AND REGISTRATION
This summer, the IDOE EL team will be providing free EL-focused professional development to Indiana teachers in four sites across the state. At each site, three different sessions will be featured, and their descriptions are detailed below.
Maximizing Instruction for English Learners throughAcademic Language (full day)
Time: 9:00am – 3:30pm
Intended Audience: Classroom teachers, EL teachers
Description: English Learners are faced with the challengingtask of learning both a new language and grade level content simultaneously. In order to ensure EL success in this endeavor, teachers must be equipped with strategic instructional methods. This session will explore and engage instrategies to provide ELs meaningful opportunities to use new academic languagein reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Participants will apply theseconcepts to existing lessons to enhance instruction for ELs and all students.
Other Details: All participants should bring an existinglesson plan to analyze and edit. Lunch will be on your own for an hour.
Keys to Co-teaching Success for English Learners (halfday)
Time: 1:00pm – 3:30pm
Intended Audience: Classroom teachers, EL teachers,co-teaching pairs, administrators
Description: The co-teaching model can be an effectivemethod of bridging content and language in the general education classroom.Moving beyond two teachers teaching in the same classroom, successful co-teachingrequires a strong foundation of collaboration, consistency, and sharedresponsibility. This session will examine these foundational building blocks,as well as instructional models, to best deliver intentional, strategicinstruction for English Learners and all students. Participants will leave withclear actionable items to begin planning for co-teaching success.
Strengthening School Leadership for English Learners(half day)
Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Intended Audience: Building level administrators
Description: Building level administrators are integral to creating an inclusive environment for English Learners. This workshop will provide administrators with school-wide approaches to serving ELs and tools to evaluate their current programming, along with strategies to support EL and content teachers.
Participants may choose the full day session, or one or both of the half-day sessions. Each session is capped at 25 attendees, and once full you will be able to sign up for a waitlist by emailing the lead contact at each site (see below). Each participant must complete their own registration. Once you have completed registration IDOE staff will follow up with logistics details as the date approaches. 8. REMINDER: TECHNOLOGY TOOLS BEST PRACTICES CONFERENCE
EACS won the Summer of eLearning Grant, and is hosting a two day iTeachTech, Technology Tools Best Practices Conference this summer:
Dates: Tuesday June 12 and Wednesday, June 13
Location: Woodlan Junior/Senior High School, 17215 Woodburn Road, Woodburn, IN 46797
Keynotes: Gerry Brooks (day 1) and EdTechHeroes Chris Young and Marcus Painter (day 2)
Expected attendance: 400-500 teachers and administrators for all over NE Indiana, western Ohio, and southern Michigan
Free to all EACS staff, including breakfast and lunch

9. REMINDER: FRANCINE’S FRIENDS MOBILE MAMMAGRAPHY UNIT
Francine's Friends Mobile Mammography Unit is returning to EACS. This is a wonderful and convenient service offered to EACS and to our community by Parkview Hospital and the Breast Diagnostic Center. See Enclosure #6 for more details. Abby Koroncevicius, ext. 7008
These canvases will be on display at Centier Bank located at 10315 Dupont Circle Drive West from
April 2‐13, 2018. Patrons will be able to vote on their favorite piece for $1. All proceeds will be donated
to Autism Fair. The winner will be announced at 10:15 on April 14th during the EACS Autism Resource
Fair and awarded a $50 dollar money tree! The winner will be notified on Friday the 13th, so they can be
in attendance at the event. The event will be held at the EACS Admin Annex/Alternative School from 10‐
2PM.

April 11, 2018 ISTEP Part 2 Is Coming—Tech Practice
If you’re looking for some last-minute technology enhanced samples that may help the
kids brush up for the ISTEP Part 2 test, here are some great resources for you to check out. All are
free but some are limited. Any exposure you could give to the kids before trying the next part of
the test may just help calm their nerves. Best of luck to everyone as we take the next and final
round of ISTEP, forever.
EL CORNER
Strategy: Key Sentence Frames (FOR ALL SUBJECTS AND GRADE LEVELS!)
Purpose: To support the use of academic language structures
Grouping Format: Whole class instruction, small groups, then student pairs
· Teacher writes an academic sentence frame on the SmartBoard or whiteboard (see links)
· Teacher provides word banks for Level 2 ELLs, word and picture banks for Level 1 ELLs
· Teacher models use of the sentence frame and provides opportunities for students to use the sentence
frame in pairs, then individually, in both oral and written language

The Indiana Association of School Principals annually recognizes school leaders in each of their 12 Indiana districts who have demonstrated excellence at their school buildings. Dr. Matt Widenhoefer, principal of Heritage Jr./Sr. High School, was named Middle School Principal of the Year for District 3. Dr. Widenhoefer has been principal at Heritage Jr./Sr. High for 5 years. He has been in education for a total of 21 years. Superintendent Hissong and the Board also congratulated Dr. Widenhoefer on recently receiving his PhD. Tremendous!
New Haven High School junior Sherdell Baker, has been selected as a National Youth Correspondent to the 2018 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason Uni-versity to be held July 15-20, 2018. The week long program give participants experiential learning through decision-making simulations that challenge them to solve problems and explore the creative, practical, and ethical tensions inherent in journalism and media. What an opportunity Sherdell!
Cole Koenig, a senior at Woodlan Jr./Sr. High School, has been selected as one of nine recipients of the inaugural Student of Integrity Scholarship, awarded by the Better Business Bureau of Northern
Indiana’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. Cole was selected by an independent panel of judges from candidates representing a 20-county region. He will receive a one-time $2000 scholarship. On hand at tonight’s meeting were Matt Farmer from Korte Does It All, as well as Marjorie Stephens, CEO of the Better Business Bureau. Job well done Cole!

Francine's Friends Mobile Mammography Unit is returning to EACS. This is a wonderful and convenient service offered to EACS and to our community by Parkview Hospital and the Breast Diagnostic Center. Parkview recommends women have an annual mammogram beginning at age 40. Women 35 and older, who are not experiencing any problems with their breasts, can get a screening mammogram on the coach. All participants must have a family physician as the screening report is sent to the physician. For participants that have insurance, their insurance company will be billed. For those that have EACS Group Health Insurance, Mammograms will be considered as a wellness benefit, covered at 100%. Please bring a photo ID and your insurance card. NO ONE will be turned away for inability to pay. Francine’s Friends has funding available and a donation toward the cost of the mammogram is welcome. 2018 screening schedule:
