HURTIGRUTEN – NORWAYShip InformationBentours’ partner in Norwegian coastal cruising is Hurtigruten, a company that has been operating voyages in Norway since 1893. Originally established to transport freight between the isolated communities of the fjords, Hurtigruten now introduces travellers to some of Scandinavia’s most remote and breathtaking locations. Hurtigruten currently operates 11 ships in Norway. Vessels vary in size, age and facilities, and each one has its own individual character. While the standard cabins are not luxurious, they are well appointed and very comfortable.

The ShipsMS Trollfjord, MS Midnatsol & MS FinnmarkenCapacities of 822 to 1000 people. Modern ships that joined the Hurtigruten fleet in 2002 and 2003. Each vessel has its own distinct style, offering comfortable cabins and suites, state-of-the-art facilities and spacious lounges with panoramic views.

MS Nordnorge, MS Nordkapp, MS Polarlys, MS Nordlys, MS Richard With & MS Kong HaraldCapacities of 619 to 623 people. Built between 1993 and 1997, these ships combine style, comfort and modern facilities with the intimate atmosphere of a smaller vessel. Each ship is individually decorated with splendid local artworks.

MS VesteralenCapacity of 516 people. Constructed in 1983 and fully renovated in 1995, this bright, cheerful vessel is smaller than Hurtigruten’s newer ships, and is popular with travellers who enjoy the real ‘working ship’ experience.

MS LofotenCapacity of 400 people. A traditional ship steeped in maritime heritage; offers a nostalgic voyage in a cosy and comfortable atmosphere.

Life On boardA Hurtigruten voyage will immerse you in Norway’s unique environment and let you share your experiences with your fellow travellers. The atmosphere on board is laid-back and casual – there is no need to dress up for dinner, and the emphasis is on relaxation and exploration rather than the commercial entertainment that is often a part of conventional cruises. To enhance your voyage, the crew may offer onboard films and presentations showcasing the history and culture of the Norwegian coast. All ships except for MS Lofoten feature an elevator. Some of the newer ships also have jacuzzis and fitness rooms.

Cabins and MealsHurtigruten passengers can choose from a wide range of comfortable cabins. These vary in size and location, sometimes even within the same grade. As a general rule, outside cabins on the higher decks feature a picture window while those on the lower decks have portholes. Onboard meals are planned around seasonal ingredients and take full advantage of Norway’s fresh local produce. Breakfast and lunch are presented buffet-style, while in the evening you can relax and enjoy a set menu at your reserved table. After dinner you can reflect on your day over coffee in one of the lounges or a nightcap in one of the bars. All onboard restaurants are fully licensed and there is also a cafe that serves snacks 24 hours a day. A la carte dining introduced to most ships in 2015! Ingredients are from premium local suppliers along the coastal voyage route.

MS FRAMShip Information Hurtigruten’s purpose-built expedition ship is the MS Fram, the ideal vessel for exploring the Polar/Arctic regions in style and comfort with an emphasis on both discovery and relaxation. Imagine your surreal memories when passing the towering icebergs of Antarctica or Greenland, while soaking in a jacuzzi on deck!

Cabins and Meals One of the world’s newest polar ships, the MS Fram was launched in 2007 and has a capacity of 318 people. The vessel features inside and outside facing cabins with twin berths, as well as a selection of suites with double beds and several with private balconies. The MS Fram’s onboard restaurant serves a diverse array of international cuisine. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style, while in the evening you can enjoy a delicious three-course set menu at your reserved table.

Life On Board A voyage on the MS Fram is different to most conventional cruises. There is no commercial entertainment; instead the emphasis is on relaxation and exploring the unique wilderness of the Polar/Arctic regions. Regular onboard lectures increase your understanding of the polar ecosystem, while an observation lounge and outdoor decks offer plenty of places to sit back and watch the glaciers go by.

The members of Hurtigruten’s expedition team have been carefully selected for their in-depth knowledge and love of these remote regions. Under their expert supervision you will have a chance to go ashore and explore otherwise inaccessible areas in sturdy Polarcirkel boats.

to Copenhagen• Transfers from ship to airport in KangerlussuaqPrice from A$7686 (Per person, twin share. Based on I Grade Cabin)

Day 1 ReykjavikReykjavik is the world’s northernmost capital. The vibrant city centre is surrounded by glaciers, waterfalls, geysers and volcanoes. Embark MS Fram in the evening and continue to enjoy the fresh Icelandic air and beautiful views. (D)

Day 2 GrundarfjordurGrundarfjordur is situated in the western area of Iceland on the Snaefellsnes peninsula. According to sagas, Snaefellsnes was the birthplace of the first West Norse member of the Varangian Guard. Several national sites are found in this area, including the Snaefellsjokull volcano, regarded as one of the symbols of Iceland. (BLD)

Day 3-4 Denmark Strait, Prins Christian Sund/Nunap Isua While crossing the Denmark Strait we sail in the wake of the great Norse settlers who left the shores of Iceland more than 900 years ago. Interesting lectures on Greenland include history, biology and geology during our time at sea. Greenland’s southern shores contain some of the most culturally and scenically diverse regions of the island. We will sail

through either the narrow channel Prins Christian Sund or sail around Nunap Isua (Cape Farewell) dependent on ice conditions. (BLD)

Day 5-7 South Greenland Erik the Red founded, settled and named it “Greenland”. Of the approx. 300 settlements that were formed, several can still be seen. We visit some of the best-preserved remains and settlements that were taken over by the Inuit. Some of the Norse settlements have since transformed into lively Greenlandic societies. Qaqortoq – considered as one of the most beautiful towns in Greenland due to the colourful houses. Excursions offered here include a visit to the only tannery in Greenland and a city walk with guide to meet the locals. Hvalsey – you will find some of the best-preserved ruins from the Norse period; the former settlement of ‘Austurbygd’. See the remains of the where the last known Viking wedding took place! Igaliku – is home to the well-known ruins of Garoar, once the religious heart of Norse Greenland. Take a guided settlement walk that is included. Qassiarsuk – is the site where Erik the Red built his Brattahlid estate in 982 A.D. After being banished from Iceland, he escaped and settled in Qassiarsuk because of its lush, green climate. Narsaq – is located at the beautiful shores of the Tunulliarfik Fjord. This area of south Greenland has been inhabited for thousands of years. Optional activities like kayaking, hiking or exploring the town by foot offered. (BLD)

Day 8 Nuuk Nuuk (meaning peninsula) is the oldest town in Greenland. Situated at the mouth of one of the largest and most spectacular fjord systems in the world. Visit the Greenland National Museum, where you can see the mummies from Qilakitsoq – the remains were found in an icy tomb and dated to 1460 A.D. (BLD)

Day 9-12 Sisimiut – Kangerlussuaq – CopenhagenThese days will see us sail to Ilulissat and Itilleq, mixing with native Greenlanders. Kangerlussuaq is situated in the end of the Kangerlussuaq fjord. The settlement/airport lies just north of the Arctic Circle and is one of the best places to observe native wildlife. Musk oxen were introduced to the Kangerlussuaq area from north-east Greenland in the 1960’s and today there is a population of over 5,000. Journey ends with a flight back to Copenhagen. (BLD)

Note: In June, the voyage begins in Reykjavik and ends in Copenhagen. In July, the voyage route is reversed, beginning in Copenhagen and ending in Reykjavik. Planned landings will depend on weather and ice conditions. We reserve the right to change the scheduled program and itinerary. Embarkation/Disembarkation in Kangerlussuaq is by Polarcirkel boats and we regret that these voyages are not suitable for wheelchair users.

Expedition Team and LecturesDuring shore excursions, our Expedition Team will share their knowledge with you. Our Expedition Team includes native Greenlanders giving us an authentic experience of their homeland. In Greenland you will have plenty of opportunities to meet the locals and see how they live. Join the Expedition Team for hikes or walks in the settlements and surroundings, take a coffee at the local café, visit a museum to learn more about the Inuit culture or simply watch the local hunters return with their catch. Observe or participate - take in the spirit of what Greenland is all about!

Ukkusissat – the locals await us at the pier when we arrive, entertaining us with song and dance before escorting us to their village to enjoy homemade cakes and local souvenirs. Illorsuit – a traditional hunting and fishing community. Many houses dry whale meat and fish on the front porch. Rarely visited by tourists, with roughly 90 inhabitants. Upernavik at N72° 47 and W 56° 10, is home to the world’s northern-most open-air museum. Qullissat – an abandoned mining settlement on Disko Island. Sometimes, hunters still use the houses of Qullissat while others use them as holiday homes. Eqip Sermia - the glacier carves icebergs into the open ocean. An excellent opportunity to experience a glacier and sense the true power of nature. Ilulissat means “iceberg” in Greenlandic. Subject to availability on the day, a plane or helicopter excursion might be offered last minute on board. Itilleq means “the hollow”. As the name suggests, the village is situated in a hollow – majestically surrounded by high mountains and glaciers. The Arctic Circle is found just 200 metres to the south. Be welcomed into a local home for snacks and chats. Possibility of an optional kayak excursion for those interested in exploring the Arctic Circle area from the shore. Also – a famed football game where the people from Itilleq play against guests and staff from MS Fram! (BLD)

Polar Pioneers of Svalbard10 DAYS | MS FRAM | TROMSO – SVALBARD – NORTH CAPE – TROMSOUnlock the Arctic wonders by exploring Spitsbergen, after we set sail from the Norwegian mainland. We leave in spring, where everything is in bloom – and head off to the High Arctic, where the earth is blanketed in thick snow. The glorious Midnight Sun is shining, allowing us to explore Barentsburg, national parks, Ny-Alesund and the North Cape. A truly unique trip – the only one with seaborne winter-expeditions to 80° North. This is a modern, maritime adventure ,which sees us disembark back in Tromso as Polar Heroes!

Departs 25 Apr; 04 May 2016Inclusions • 9 nights in cabin category of your choice• Meals as per itinerary (BLD)• Complimentary tea and coffee• Wind and water-resistant personal jacket• Landings with Polarcirkel boats• Activities on board and ashore• Lectures and landings with Expedition TeamPrice from A$3102 (Per person, twin share. Based on I Grade Cabin)

Day 1 TromsoArrival today in Tromso, the gateway to the Arctic. Explore the town at your own leisure. This is the starting point for numerous expeditions, heading deeper into the polar circle. We board the MS Fram and embark on our expedition. (D)

Day 2 BjornoyaVisit the southernmost and isolated island of the Svalbard Archipelago. Referred to as having “the largest concentration of sea birds in the Northern Hemisphere”, it is an extremely important breeding habitat for seabirds. Warm waters from the Gulf Stream currents converge on the cold waters from the Arctic Ocean – part of the global marine conveyor belt. (BLD)

Day 3-4 SpitsbergenLeaving northbound from Bornoya, the Captain and Expedition Leader will monitor the icy conditions at hand to ensure the best paths possible. Lectures are given while we make attempts to enter fjords where ice is landlocked. This is the platform on which the

ringed seal gives birth to their offspring. Many may be hiding in the snowdrifts, however, this is also the perfect hunting ground for polar bears! Also, look out for the many walrus that hunt for shellfish. (BLD)

Day 5 Longyearbyen Longyearbyen is the Norwegian administrative centre of Svalbard. A small community of only 2000 inhabitants reside here. Check out the cafes, several excellent restaurants, hotels, bars and a university. An opportunity to take advantage of the many sports / tours and experiences on offer, so you can experience the way of local life. Remember, there is always the danger of straying too far from the city limit and encountering a polar bear! (BLD)

Day 6-7 SpitsbergenNoticeably different from Longyearbean, Barentsburg is a Russian mining settlement with typical Russian architecture and planning. After a few hours here exploring the culture and museum, we head further north to North West Spitsbergen. Some experiences over these days include: North West Spitsbergen National Park, Kongsfjorden, traversing glaciers with the Expedition Team, Krossfjorden, Mitrahalvoya and Ny-Alesund. There are many islands which have ideal zodiac landing places for explorers who are interested in Svalbard’s history, landscape and wildlife. Look out for walrus, seal and polar bears. (BLD)

Day 8 BjornoyaWe cross paths again with this spectacular island and birdlife. If time and opportunity permits, we may get a chance to get up close to wildlife in zodiacs. The main route today is sailing across to the tip of the North Cape. Expedition lectures will be given as we recap what we have seen and learnt. Enjoy comparing photos and a drink with fellow travellers, unwind and enjoy the MS Fram facilities on offer. (BLD)

Day 9 North CapeExperiencing the North Cape from the north is something few travellers ever have a chance to do! We will pay a visit to Gjesvaerstappan, a birdcliff that will be teeming with spring breeding Arctic species in a cacophony of sound. As we sail by this ‘End of the Earth’ you will notice the vast contrast of where you now are, compared to what you have experienced in the last week. Wonderful landscapes and towns like Hammerfest dot the shore, as we sail slowly towards Tromso and enjoy the scenery. (BLD)

Day 10 TromsoToday after breakfast, we disembark the MS Fram as Polar heroes! The expedition officially ends. You are welcome to spend more time in Tromso, as per your own arrangements, or continue your journey onwards. Memories will stay with you the rest of your life. (B)

The Drake Passage, situated between Cape Horn and the sub-Antarctic South Shetland Islands, is one of the world’s iconic waterways. Passengers can enjoy the bracing air out on deck or delight in the comfort of the panoramic observation lounge. A well-equipped gym is at your disposal and entertaining information sessions are conducted by a team of experts. (BLD)

Day 5–11 Antarctica The first icebergs will glide silently into view as your ship nears the shores of the great white continent. Whales, seals and penguins will also begin to appear as the air grows colder. Reaching the Antarctic Peninsula, you will have many opportunities to go ashore and experience at first hand the beautiful scenery and unique fauna of this frozen wilderness. Antarctica’s variable ice and weather conditions will determine your final itinerary. Some sites we hope to visit are: Deception Island, whose natural harbour includes Whalers’ Bay, site of an abandoned whaling station; Half Moon Bay, a jewel of diverse landscapes whose serrated and crevassed cliffs are home to a colony of chinstrap penguins as well as Antarctic terns, kelp gulls and snowy sheathbills; Yankee Harbour, renowned as a remarkable natural haven created by a kilometre-long spit, and favoured by exhausted Weddell, crabeater, fur, and elephant seals; Cuverville Island, situated in the scenic Errera Channel, boasting the largest known colony of gentoo penguins in the Antarctic Peninsula; and Neko Harbour, surrounded by some of the highest and most spectacular glacier walls of the Peninsula and a favoured feeding ground for shy minke whales.

Protected from the winds of the nearby Gerlache Strait, the aptly-named Paradise Harbour offers marvellous opportunities for a mainland landing. The 11-kilometre-long Lemaire Channel is commonly known as one of the most beautiful passages in Antarctica. Petermann Island is a great spot for iceberg- and whale-spotting. Port Lockroy is the site of an abandoned British base, now a fascinating museum. Wilhelmina Bay, where whales and seals feed surrounded by dramatic glaciers. Antarctic Sound, home to some of the continent’s most immense icebergs. Brown Bluff, a penguin breeding ground dominated by a 745-metre volcanic cliff. (BLD)

43TERMS & CONDITIONS

TERMS & CONDITIONS Please read this information carefully as payment of your deposit will constitute your agreement to all terms and conditions set out below.

THE COMPANY “The Company” or ‘We’ in the context of these terms and conditions means Tempo Holidays Pty Ltd. trading as Bentours International, ABN 51007331213. Vic. License No. 31341.Tempo Holidays is a licensed travel agent, and an approved participant of the AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme (ATAS). The Company is also a member of the Council of Australian Tour Operators (CATO).

BROCHURE VALIDITY & PRICINGThe brochure is valid for the dates shown. All prices are quoted in Australian dollars and current at the time of publication (15 May 2015). We use indicative ‘from’ pricing in this brochure, however prices may vary substantially according to season. We will advise the applicable price which relates to the client’s travel dates at the time of inquiry or booking. Applicable pricing is also displayed on our website. Prices may also change due to alterations in exchange rates, airfares, fuel surcharges, taxes, or other price rises beyond control of ‘The Company’. The current price will be advised on our invoice. We reserve the right to adjust prices at any time up until full payment has been received by us. Our prices are inclusive of research, communication, documentation and marketing costs. No representation is made that identical, or similar product may, or may not, be obtained at a lower price. Receipt of your payment signifies the acceptance of the costs of services provided on your invoice, E&OE* accepted.

PRICE APPLICATION Prices are applicable for bona fide international leisure travellers. Service providers may refuse to honour our vouchers if presented by travellers who are unable to meet local qualifications for international leisure travellers. We will not be liable for any loss which may result. Prices shown in the brochure are only available when booked and paid in advance in Australia. Where services are extended overseas, locally published prices may be applied.

ACCOMMODATION STANDARDSHotels are generally selected for location, facilities and value. In more remote areas we may need to use basic accommodation which is regarded as ‘best available’. Classifications are based on assessments provided by tourist authorities in the countries concerned and reflect the type of facilities offered, rather than denoting a style of hotel. Photographs are intended to give a general impression only and city maps are only a guide to the location of the hotel.Hotel FacilitiesThe mention of facilities such as parking, gyms, saunas etc does not imply that the use of these is free. Where charges apply, they will be payable locally (unless otherwise specified). Tea and coffee making facilities in rooms are the exception rather than the rule. Swimming pools, heating and air-conditioning are not necessarily available all year round.Bedding ConfigurationPrices are based on lead-in twin share accommodation, unless otherwise stated. Requests for specific bedding types must be made at the time of booking, but are not guaranteed. Double rooms may have either twin or double beds. It is common practice to link two single beds together to use as a double bed. Single rooms are often smaller than other rooms and may contain a single bed. Triple rooms usually consist of a twin or double bedded room with an additional sofa bed, folding bed or rollaway for the third person - the room may be cramped as a result. In villas and apartments the bedding configuration is as advised at the time of publication or booking, and is subject to change. Multiple bedrooms in villas, apartments or similar does not infer that these rooms afford total privacy.Travelling with ChildrenWhere a child shares a room with two paying adults and stays free, an extra bed may not be supplied and the child could be expected to share an adult’s bed. Additional charges may be levied and paid directly for child meals. Where a child discount rate is applied the child receives a bed, normally a rollaway. When children stay in a room without two adults the adult charge may apply.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSNo special provision is made for travellers with physical or mental disabilities. Some accommodation and sightseeing may involve walking or climbing stairs. Special requests, such as wheelchair suitable accommodation and touring, ground floor rooms, cabins or limited step access, must be made to us in writing by your travel agent, and confirmed by us in writing; otherwise any such requests cannot be guaranteed.Hurtigruten onboard MS Fram: Each passenger warrants that they are fit to travel. G Adventures will review the information submitted and keep the information in accordance with the published privacy policy. G Adventures reserves the right to challenge any information submitted, ask for further information or clarify on certain points. The client acknowledges and understands the destination visited is remote, isolated and far removed from medical care facilities. Further the client understands the honest completion of this form will assist all concerned in an emergency situation. In the event there is a dispute between G Adventures and the client in regard to the client’s physical or mental suitability for a trip, the matter will be referred to a medical professional for an opinion at the client’s expense. G Adventures reserves the right to deny any client on reasonable medical grounds. In the event the client has made a booking with G Adventures and subsequently is unable to complete the required medical form for any reason by the final payment dates, G Adventures reserves the right to treat the booking as cancelled, and applicable cancellation penalties will apply. G Adventures must be notified in writing at the time of booking of any medical conditions, pregnancy, physically challenged conditions or any other mental and or physical condition which may affect fitness to travel and or any medical condition. Failure to notify G Adventures may result in the client being refused travel.
