Could You be SHPC’s Next BBQ King or Queen?

Let’s find out at the 2016 Holy Smokes BBQ, NEXT WEEK

following 11:00 worship! If you want to enter your BBQ’d meat for judging, bring enough to share!

Each family should bring chairs or a picnic blanket and a side dish or dessert to share. If you have a shade canopy, you might want that as well...we’ll be (mostly)

under the shade of the oak trees, but extra shade may be needed. This will be Rev. Jim Capps’s last Sunday with us, so we will be celebrating him at Holy Smokes! Be ready for a big celebration on May 29th!

We are incredibly fortunate to enjoy the immensely talented Jason Kwak as our 11:00 pianist every week here at SHPC, and on May 22nd, Jason will bring us a piano concert you won’t want to miss!Look inside for details!

A Very Special Concert Today! We are incredibly fortunate to enjoy the immensely talented Jason Kwak as our 11:00 pianist every week here at SHPC, and on May 22nd, Jason will bring us a piano concert you won't want to miss!Texas State International Piano Festival, now in it’s seventh year, is a piano festival designed to develop and foster young pianists with the highest level of environment for learning and performing. During these 7 years, Texas State International Piano Festival has gathered pianists from over 30 different countries. This afternoon at 3:00 p.m., Jason Kwak, who is also the director of the festival, will bring 5 of the 42 pianists (2 pre-college, 3 college) who will be part of the 7th festival, to SHPC! They will perform a short recital (around 1 hour), then we will have fellowship afterward. Please come enjoy some truly spectacular piano playing! Invite your friends and neighbors...this is going to be an incredible opportunity! Before her death last year, our own Louise Froelich gave a gift for scholarships to this festival. We at SHPC are continuing that gift in her name. A love offering will be taken at the concert to benefit the Louise Froelich Scholarship fund.

Disciple Returns! After a year without any Disciple Bible Study classes, there has been a demand for them to start up again. I believe we already have enough interest to have a Thursday evening, 7:00 to 9:00, Disciple 1 class and there may also be interest in a Disciple 2 class. The sooner we get a class minimum of 8, the sooner I can get them on the fall schedule. So, please contact me right away if you have any interest in one of these classes for fall. (Sherry Smith at [email protected] or 512-656-1581) Disciple is a September to May Bible study that meets for two hours each week for thought-provoking group discussions. The heart of this program is about transformation rather than just information. Participants learn how to live their lives as disciples. There are four separate studies. The first one is an overview of about 70% of the Bible. It is strongly suggested that you take this Disciple 1 class before taking any of the upper level classes that dig more specifically into certain books of the Bible. Disciple 2 focuses on Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts. It’s now time to start signing up for the 2016-2017 set of classes so we can train leaders this summer, order materials, and schedule class space. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Disciple disciple!

Thank You for Continuing Caring Forever...Two Caring Forever Endowment Fund awards were made on Mother’s Day, May 8th to a couple of very deserving organizations. The awards were granted to:

• CampLIFE!, A nonprofit connecting the families of fallen heroes through a camp experience including inspiration, challenge, and adventure.

• Water Brigade, Austin College Chapter. Water Brigades volunteers assist in implementing clean water systems to prevent water-related illnesses in communities with limited access to clean water. They are serving right now in Honduras!

The following contributions have been made so far in 2016 to the Caring Forever Endowment Fund, helping to continue the fund and the work it supports long into the future. Thank you for your generosity!!In memory of Chester Weust:
