BACKGROUND, COMPANY INFORMATION
AND JOB DESCRIPTION
Background
Parkwood Theatres is a division of leisure support services company Parkwood Community Leisure, which is part of Parkwood Holdings plc.
The Company operates in excess of 80 facilities nationwide employing over 6,000 employees. Our aim is to deliver high quality services to our
customers; the Company also prides itself on its exemplary health and safety record and a commitment to our staff.
Venues in the Parkwood Theatres group are; The Hawth Crawley, the Playhouse Weston-super-Mare and The Hazlitt Theatre Maidstone.
The Hawth, Crawley opened in May 1989 and is managed by Parkwood Theatres on behalf of Crawley Borough Council under the terms of a 10
year management agreement, which commenced in February 2012. The continuing presentation of shows, productions and events at The
Hawth to a very high standard is a priority for both the Company, customers and our Client.
The Venue comprises of an 850 seat proscenium arch Main Theatre and a 146 seat Studio Theatre. Both spaces, as well as the grounds
surrounding the Venue, are capable of being used in a multitude of formats and layouts which is reflected in The Hawth’s extensive range of
programmed arts events and activities.
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational
• To actively facilitate all incoming productions/events and provide technical support for the varied programme across the
venue’s facilities. This includes working on pre rigs, get in’s, fit ups and get outs. Working directly on performances/events as
LX operator, Sound, Stage, Flyman, Follow Spot, or any other stage or technical duty required to ensure the performance/event
is staffed appropriately. A high level of customer service must be maintained at all times.
• To provide technical support for any other shows/events including operating the Venue’s digital cinema.
• To assist in operating and maintaining all technical equipment to a high standard.
• To actively partake in housekeeping to ensure The Hawth’s equipment is stored correctly and all technical areas are kept in
good order.
• To provide lighting design for incoming amateur productions and dance performances. This may include liaising directly with
companies and sitting in on a run through of the show.
• To follow all in house procedures and operating practices related to standards of work, security and stock management.
• If required, to act as duty technician, being the point of contact for visiting companies, supervising casual staff and responding
to any technical issues that may arise when on duty.
• To attend any internal meetings as required.
• To lock and unlock the building on occasion, following a specified procedure.
• To assist with stock control and advising the Technical & Building Services Manager of any stock that requires replenishing in a
timely manner.
• To be actively involved with improving the operation of the Technical & Building Services Team, including putting forward any
ideas that could have a positive impact.
• Assist in maintaining good working relationships with other departments within The Hawth.
• To undertake any other duties or technical requests as may be required in the capacity of your role and delegated from the
Technical & Building Services Manager, Deputy Technical & Building Services Manager or any other senior manager in their
absence. This may include working at other Parkwood Theatre sites if necessary.
Health & Safety
• To ensure all legal requirements, in house risk assessments, SSoW and licence conditions are adhered to by visiting companies
and casual staff.
• To use and respect PPE.
• To quickly and accurately report any incidents/near misses that may occur.
• To remove and report any faulty equipment.
• To assist in implementing the emergency evacuation procedure.
• To assist in inducting and training casual staff.
• To assist the Technical & Building Services Manager in maintaining Parkwood Theatres’ high standard of Health & Safety
provision.
Administration
• To follow the Technical & Building Services rota as directed.
• To accurately fill in a time sheet to ensure all payments and additional/lieu hours are recorded.
• To follow Parkwood Theatres’ absence procedure.
• To sign in and out of the building.
• To ensure any contra items/hire charges are communicated to maximise revenue.
• To fill in training records as & when required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
TITLE Technician (LX)
REPORTING TO Deputy Technical & Building Services Manager
GRADE 02L2 – 03L3 (subject to experience and specialist knowledge)
LOCATION The Hawth Crawley
REMUNERATION £18928 - £19,760
HOURS OF WORK 40 hours per week on a rota including regular evening and weekend working. These hours may be calculated
monthly as required to service the programme.
HOLIDAYS 20 Days Annual Holiday plus Statutory Holidays
NOTICE PERIOD 1 Month
