Teacher Directions

Suggested Use: this is a great activity to use after introducing Día de los Muertos. You can ask students to bring in a small photo of someone for whom they would like to create an ofrenda. This could be a loved one, pet, or they could choose a celebrity or character from a book, movie, etc. if they do not want to choose someone who they knew personally. -Print a template for each student (template is in the pdf file). -Edit the student directions if needed and then project or print out the directions for students to use as they complete their ofrenda. -Students complete the template in English (beginners) or Spanish according to your instructions based on your students’ level of Spanish (they would need to know some basic adjectives, nouns, verbs, and foods to complete in Spanish). -You can show students the examples on page 4. Examples are for my dog GiGi and Augustus Waters from the novel and film The Fault in Our Stars. -You can display students’ ofrendas once they are complete. -You could also have advanced level students present their ofrenda in Spanish for the class.
