hold a miniature donkey show the
same week as The Great
Celebration in Shelbyville. A
show held on Monday and
Tuesday; were we crazy?
Possibly!
To say our group was not afraid
to think outside of the box is an
understatement. Food for
participants was going to be an
issue. Our answer was to have a
vendor come in and provide the
food for participants to purchase
for lunch and snacks.
Unfortunately, that became
impractical at the last minute.
Board Members stepped in and
sponsored two meal, snacks and
drinks for both days!
It was great to have all the
participants meet in one
comfortable room to eat, relax

It is important to us that everything about ADA be professional and
depicts the donkey as a highly respected and appreciated animal.

The American Donkey
Association (ADA) was founded
on January 1, 2015 with one of its
goals to put on a first class
miniature donkey show in the
first year. That, at first, seemed
simple enough.
There were many challenges and
hurdles to overcome to put on a
first ever show. The ADA Board
of Directors wanted the first show
to be a small example of all the
great things the organization
hopes to accomplish. The show
had to be fun, professional and
NMDA sanctioned.
The biggest fear was that we
would have a show, but no one
would show up. The first annual
Music City Show held on July 6th
and 7th of 2015 was a major
success in the eyes of the Board
and we hope the participants.
Our first two challenges were to
find an exceptional location and
the perfect date for the show.
Again we took a risk. Clearview
Farms in Shelbyville, Tennessee
had never before been the
location of a miniature donkey
show. No one had ever tried to

and tell stories?
Did you ever wish you could get
some good photos of your
animals in action at a show but
there just wasn’t enough extra
money after travel, rooms and
registration to pay for the luxury
of a few photos? Not a problem at
ADA’s 2015 Music City Show!
Photos of nearly every class and
(Continued from page 1; A Soldier's Story) every animal and exhibitor are
available for free!
Were there complaints? Yes, a
few but, in my opinion, it was the
most fun I have ever had at a
show. Not only that, but the
camaraderie, fun and friendly
competition seemed to carry over
to the Great Celebration Show.
Plans are already being discussed
for next year. No decisions have
been made, but it is highly likely
we will be doing it all over again
but even better!
The ADA Board of Directors has
a lot to do but growth of
membership and expansion of
shows to other States in the next
year are certainly likely to be high
on the list of new challenges.

Putting on a miniature donkey
show with a brand new
organization takes a tremendous
amount of work and cooperation
from everyone including the
participants. In addition there are
a lot of expenses required to put
on a show; insurance, facility
rental, signage, ribbons and the
list goes on.
Our Sponsors went above and
beyond our expectations. ADA
didn’t exist until January 1, 2015
and had no funds other than what
the founding Board Members had
contributed for incorporation and
other miscellaneous expenses.
Our Sponsors for Class Ribbons,
banners, lunches, snacks and
other advertising permitted the
ADA Board and Show
Committee to continuously move
forward without worrying how
everything was going to be paid
for.
The list below is everyone who
financially made the 2015 Music
City Miniature Donkey show
possible and successful.

VOLUNTEERS
If you would like to become
more involved with ADA we
have a number of
opportunities. Each of our
Committees have different
needs over time. We need
articles for the ADA News,
good photos from shows
around the Country. We need
help with membership growth
and as the number of shows
grow, we will need lots of
help at those.
If you are interested in
serving on one of our
committees, or even our
Board of Directors, send us
your qualifications and

We also welcome your
suggestions for what we can
do better. What would you
like for us to do to help you
and your local club?

Letter From the President
Thank You All,
I am so excited with the success
of the 1st Music City NMDA
sanctioned show. The
competition was fierce,
wonderful Donkeys were
entered in the classes and we
had fantastic exhibitors. The
show had a total of 70 Donkeys
with farms from 11 different
states.
Thank you to all the Sponsors
whose generosity is greatly
appreciated. I do intend to
submit an article to The Asset
and The Brayer and recognize
all those folks.
Our Show Committee (Debby
Miller, Missi Webb, Steve Crim
and Paula Segelid) did a
wonderful job. Sally Lightner
worked hard taking entries and
ensuring exhibitors were fed
tasty lunches both days. Our
Announcer, Sue Ganser and our
Points Keeper, Dena Wilson
diligently kept the classes
running smoothly. Others that
made the two days wonderful
were Kenny Webb, Robert
Hughes, Katie Randall, Patsy
Oertli, Hunter Hughes, Jerry
Paterson, Jim Tippie, Jim Speck,
Kathy Schmitt and Jerry Pegelow.
We appreciate everyone’s hard
work!! Thank you to Richard
Fleener for all the terrific
photos, they are great.
