Minnesota United put up an explosive performance in a midweek match against the Jacksonville Armada. Juliano Vicentini opened the scoring with a shot from outside the penalty area. A dangerous challenge late in the half earned Alhassane Keita a red card, leaving the Armada with 10 men. Daniel Mendes scored his second of the year early in the second half thanks to a flick from Christian Ramirez. Ramirez got one of his own a few minutes later after United broke up an Armada counterattack. J.C. Banks provided an assist for Ibson, who opened his United goal tally in the 75th minute to put the game to rest.

Ibarra Returns to Minnesota with Liga MX TeamMinnesota United welcomes former player Miguel Ibarra and his new team Club León on Saturday night for an international friendly match. Ibarra joined the club after United’s Spring Season. Nicknamed La Fiera, León is one of the most historic clubs in Mex-ico and has seven first division titles in its history. The most recent title for La Fiera came in the 2013-14 season where it won both the Apertura and Clasura tournaments. This is León’s final friendly before be-ginning its 2015 Apertura campaign on July 24th.

DISCIPLINARY REPORT
Nicknamed La Fiera, the club was founded in 1943 with aspira-tions to join the the Mexican Primera Division in a few years. León joined the top flight league for the 1947-48 season, winning the title that year. La Fiera went on to win three more titles in seven years, quickly becoming a top club in the country.
The club enjoyed success for many years, winning several Copa MX and Campeón de Campeones titles, but were unable to re-claim the league title. It would take 47 years, and a brief relega-tion, for León to end its title drought in 1992. The club was rele-gated once again for ten years before returning to the top flight in 2012. The following season, La Fiera won both the Apertura and Clasura in the same season to claim its seventh title.

Statistics on this page reflect NASL/USSF D2 and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup results.
• León is the first Liga MX team to come to Minnesota in 11 years. The Minnesota Thunder hosted the Monarcas Morelia reserve team in 2004 in a two-match friendly series. The first match, played in St. Paul, saw the Thunder win 3-0. The second match was played in Rochester with the Thunder having an even better result, defeating the Monarchs 7-0. Trialist Semir Mersanovic scored five straight goals to start the match.
• León has played several friendlies in the U.S. to prepare for the upcoming Apertura season. They have a 2-2-3 record in the preseason tour.
• United has not lost a midseason friendly match since the rebrand in 2013.
• Liga MX follows a similar format to the NASL, with each league playing two seasons, Apertura and Clasura in Liga MX and Spring and Fall in NASL. Unlike the single playoff at the end of the year in the NASL, Liga MX has a playoff, or Liguilla, at the end of each season to determine a champion. The Apertura and Clasura champions meet in the Campeón de Campeones match.
• Both León manager Luis Antonio Pizzi and United midfielder Ibson have played for Portuguese super club Porto in their careers.
• Pizzi coached La Liga side Valencia for the 2013-2014 season prior to taking the managerial role with León.

ABOUT THE NORTH AMERICAN SOCCER LEAGUE
The North American Soccer League (NASL) is a professional soccer league with eleven teams in the United States and Canada. It is sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer) as the Division II league in the American league system. Its headquarters are in New York City.
The league is named for the original North American Soccer League. The modern NASL was founded in 2009, and began play in 2011 following a 2010 season that saw NASL and USL teams play in a combined temporary Division II league.
The NASL uses a split-season schedule running from April to early November, with a four-week break in July. The spring and fall champions, along with the two teams with best combined records, meet in a four-team single elimination tournament known as The Championship. The winner of the final claims the Soccer Bowl at the end of the season.

Minnesota United finished the Spring Season with a 3-5-2 record, missing out on its second Spring Championship by six points. Minnesota will need to win the Fall Season or have one of top two records in the league, excluding the season champions, to qualify for the playoffs.
The NASL uses split-season format, first implemented in 2013, with separate Spring and Fall seasons. The winners of the Spring and Fall seasons along with two remaining teams with the best overall record will play in The Championship, the league’s four-team playoff. In the event the same team wins both the Spring and Fall championships, the top three teams with the best overall records will join them in The Championship.
