Essay: Please explain, in your own words, why you should be selected as a recipient of the AAEA

scholarship. Include information such as, what course of study or major field of interest you plan to follow,

your proposed occupation or profession, how you will use your talents to benefit your community and larger

audiences upon graduation, and any other abilities you have that were not previously mentioned in this form.

The essay should not exceed one typed page.

Instructions: Complete Section A of this application and ask the appropriate references to complete

sections B, C and D. Mail Section A, along with your essay, to the address below no later than April 29,

2015. Letters of reference should be submitted by this date as well. Upon receipt of your application, you

will be mailed a confirmation letter with details about the audition. Auditions will take place on the evening

of May 12, 2015. On the night of auditions, you will have five minutes to demonstrate your talent. If you

are competing in two art forms, you may have an additional two minutes, for a maximum of seven minutes.

Applicants in the field of art should present a portfolio of at least five representative works. A piano will be

available for use, but there is no microphone and singers may not use recorded music. Those auditioning in

dance may use pre-recorded selections, but must provide their own tape/CD player. Those auditioning in

literature must recite an original work, and provide written copies (3) of their work for the judges.

I understand that the $1,000 scholarship for which I am auditioning will be paid directly to the college or

university by the date specified by that institution’s bursar as the day on which tuition and fees are payable.

If the $1,000 exceeds the amount due for the first quarter or semester, the balance will be applied toward the

next quarter’s or semester’s tuition. I understand that if all stipulations of this scholarship are not met, I

forfeit the right to the scholarship. Verification of my participation in the fine arts area indicated may be

obtained. I verify that all information given on this form is correct and that the essay submitted as written

solely by me.
