New residents to the province are eligible for coverage after a waiting period of the remainder of the month of arrival plus two full months.

MSP pays all medically required services of physicians and surgeons (and dental surgery if performed in a hospital). routine eye exams are a benefit for people under the age of 18 years and for those 65 years and older. MSP also includes psychiatrist (when referred by doctor) and surgical podiatry.

to be covered by MSP you must apply and pay monthly premiums. If your income is low, you are a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and have lived in Canada for the last 12 months you may be eligible to receive Premium Assistance.

For people who receive Premium Assistance, MSP also pays the cost of a combined annual limit of 10 visits for chiropractic, massage therapy, naturopathy, physical therapy, acupuncture and non-surgical podiatry when performed by a practitioner enrolled with MSP. (MSP pays $23 for each visit, patient is responsible for any charge over and above.)

PharmaCare 604-683-7151 www.health.gov.bc.ca/pharmacareBC PharmaCare Program helps British Columbians with the cost of eligible prescription drugs and designated medical supplies. the lower your income, the more assistance the government provides. register by calling 604-683-7151 or on-line at www.health.gov.bc.ca

Under Fair PharmaCare, your family is responsible for the cost of your prescription drugs until you have paid your full deductible. After reaching your deductible, PharmaCare pays the majority of eligible prescription costs and you are responsible only for a co-payment. Your co-payments continue until the annual maximum based on your family’s income is reached. After that, PharmaCare pays the full amount of all eligible prescription costs.

the monthly deductible payment option allows you to spread the cost of the deductible over the full year. this option benefits families who have high prescription costs by allowing them to distribute their prescription drug costs over the course of the year and receive PharmaCare assistance with all eligible prescription costs.
