INTRODUCTION

“Petroleum engineering overlaps with many of the engineering disciplines, such as mechanical, chemical, and civil and at UTP we pool experienced industry professionals and experts from the required disciplines.”

PROFESSOR IR DR AHMAD FADZIL B MOHD HANI FASc, FIEMDeputy Vice Chancellor Academic

Hydrocarbons will continue to be the main global energy source andthe fact that these resources will be less accessible and available, moreadvanced technology will be required to extract them. The need forskilled engineers will increase for many reasons, such as new technological challenges and increasing demand for oil and gas, among others.

Professionals and engineers who have deep interest in the exploration and production of oil and gas and would like to furtherdevelop knowledge that is crucial to value creation and safe, efficient and environmentally-friendly exploration of the naturalresources should register for this programme. Graduates of this programme will extend their marketability to explore careers inresearch, production and/or consultancy within a very internationalindustry - petroleum production.

Petroleum Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that applies engineering principles and quantitative methods in exploitingsubsurface oil and gas reserves. At Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), the MSc course in Petroleum Engineering offers qualified and dedicated graduates with a learning experience and industry relevantresearch and field development projects related to the needs of the multibillion-dollar petroleum industry. Areas of focus include exploration and production of oil and gas, methods for increased oil recovery factor, development of platform solutions and subsea production equipment for great water depths and demands for environmental considerations.
