Hannah delivered several inspirational assemblies to KS4 students on her life to date. Describing how once faced with an uncertain future, she discovered a positive channel for her energies at All Stars, one of

London’s most prominent boxing clubs. Hannah went on to explain how she has transformed her life through sport, not only excelling at boxing, but acting as a strong role model for her local communities by

promoting boxing in schools.

When Hannah returns to WHS in the New Year she will be working with three different groups on Sky

Living For Sport Projects. Throughout the sessions Hannah will work with students on the six keys to success, mental toughness, hunger to achieve, people skills, sports and life knowledge, breaking barriers

and planning for success using her own life experiences and team building skills.

We look forward to welcoming Hannah back in the New year.

Dolly delights in representing England Stoolball team Dolly Culver, a year 11 student at Worthing High School, was chosen to represent England Stoolball U21s

on Sunday 28th September at Horsham Cricket Club after a gruelling selection process over a number of

weeks. Amazingly, Dolly has only been playing Stoolball since April this year and was invited to England trials following some excellent performances for her local team, Worthing Ladies Stoolball Club.

At the trials on Sunday 21st September, the prospective players were taken through their paces by a top

cricket coach, who broadened their techniques and skill-set when in the field. The players then went into

matches and were assessed on their overall ability, particularly with the bat.

During the evening, the manage-ment team selected an England

U21 team and a President’s U21 team to play each other in a match

on the 28th September also in

Horsham, to kick start the interna-tional season. During the game,

Dolly shone in the field, catching out the President’s top player, and

also scored some vital runs with the bat against some very fast

bowlers. The England team

were just pipped at the post but Dolly is now looking forward to

more games in the near future.

Under 14 Girls Football

The U13 and U14 girls have done themselves proud this season. Playing in the district league, the team has fought and battled with the best of them, competing and attacking every ball. As the girls gained more experience and match play it was clear to see both the girls’ skills and fitness levels improving.

All girls are to be congratulated on their continued commitment and team spirit throughout the season. The girls have been an absolute pleasure to take to all fixtures and I look forward to their continued commitment and team spirit for next season.

Well done to Poppy, Kirthika, Sophie, Charlotte, Dee, Katie, Imogen, Amy, Harriet, and Hayley who has occasionally helped the team out this season.

Ricochet Auditions

Thank you to all the students who worked extremely hard on choreographing dance pieces to perform at the Ricochet auditions. It was the highest standard of auditions we have had so far with a total of 34 students auditioning for 4 places. Due to the standard being so high, I was unable to select 4 students and decided to expand the company. I would like to congratulate the following 7 students for being accepted into Ricochet: Heather Barrett, Ella Bourne, Danielle Mansbridge, Sarah Seacombe, Olivia Smith, Erin Wake and Emma Wilson.

District Cross Country Championships 2014 Yet another boggy, wet and muddy course faced the intrepid District Cross Country runners at Lancing Manor

on 9th December. WHS sent their best runners to tackle the course and they certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons! Top performer was Lucy Steel who came 6th in the Intermediate Girls race with Millie Hughes

finishing 9th. Owen Knight came 10th in the Intermediate boys with Kav Thornton finishing 11th, Ben

Redman 12th and Ryan Young 13th. Overall, the Intermediate teams placed second out of 8 whilst the junior teams both placed 7th overall. Eleven schools entered the Championships so this was a very credible

performance by all involved. Well done!

Blake Harvey wins the John Burroughs Award Blake Harvey from Worthing High school (previously TAB) and U14 player at Chippendales was awarded the John Burroughs award at the West Sussex cricket prize giving evening ceremony in October.

This year in the junior festival he took his first ever wicket and also got into double figures with the bat which he was desperate to do (and was not out!!). During Cricket-Force he was there throughout the weekend doing absolutely anything asked of him and during this years Tenty10ty tournament he was again helping out throughout the week-end when not playing his own age group games. Matthew Bourne from Chippendales who nominated Blake for the award said “He is a lovely lad who really enjoys playing but also just loves to be involved, he is genuinely an excellent Clubman and will do whatever is asked of him without any grumbling and groaning! Chippendales are extremely proud of Blake and feel he thoroughly deserved this award which he won on top of many other nominations in the category!” We are so delighted to hear that not only had Blake been nominated but had won the award. Blake loves his cricket and is currently leading younger students at the Worthing High cricket academy every Wednesday. He is a great ambassador for his school and club.

Blake is a keen and enthusiastic cricketer who loves sport and cricket. At Worthing High School Blake is involved in lots of extracurricular clubs and has immersed himself fully in the recently launch Worthing High School cricket academy. At Chippendales Blake is a real team player; when not playing Blake helps out and supports any of the sides at all age groups through to the adults and the ladies. If there are youngsters around he will help encourage them by either bowling at them or giving under arm throws and makes sure it is about them and not about him. He helps with setting up for teas, and will clear up and help wash up.

Zoe Brown - Wicker’s Club Championships

A huge congratulations to Zoe Brown who recently got gold in the Wicker’s Club Championships. Zoe competed in the 12—13 age category against seven other gymnasts, performing on floor, vault and bars. Luke Moore Swimming Sensation!

Luke Moore won ‘top boy’ for his age group - 14 years — at the Winter Sussex Counties 2014. The event was

held in October, over two consecutive weekends. Luke

won the overall title with 4,447 points with a lead of over 400 points. He took 1st place in the 200m fly,

200m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 200m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke events -

claiming victory in Sussex. Luke also competed in the

Bexley International long course open meet on 16.11.14 - 1500m freestyle event, taking a close 2nd

place silver medal with a time of 18.03.59 a great (pb) for this event up against 14/15 year olds. Luke said, “I

was pleased with my swims, especially my personal best for the 200m backstroke. Over the second

weekend I didn’t feel too well, but still managed to

come through winning!”

Imogen Mitchell —Archery

Despite being relatively new to the sport, Year 8 student, Imogen Mitchell has certainly

announced her competitive desire to succeed and win trophies!

As you can see, in a matter of months, Imogen has clocked up a rather impressive catalogue of medals and

trophies in the competitions she has entered. To date her successes include:

August: Gold medal—U12’s Doreens Junior

Shoot @ Eastbourne September: Silver medal—U14’s

Eastbourne Junior Open Shoot, Ladies

Barebow

Lewis wins bronze at junior shooting international held at Bisley.

Lewis Strotten, a Year 11 student at Worthing High School, continued his extraordinary shooting success story at a recent junior shooting international, held at Bisley, near Guildford. Against 56 athletes from Germany, Northern Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, Jersey, Isle of Man, Wales and Denmark, Lewis took home a bronze medal in the 50 me-tre men's prone event. The competition was split into two eliminations where the top competitors from each elimination go through to the final. Lewis got through to the sec-ond elimination after a very tough 60 shot shoot in strong winds and driving rain. In round two, he shot another 60 shot match, scoring a new decimal PB of 611.0, which is an impressive major match score, easily advancing him through to the final, qualifying in second place. The top eight shooters went through to the final, which consisted of two rounds of three shots and then double shot eliminations. There were three shooters representing GB in the final but two of those were eliminated in 6th and 7th positions, leaving Lewis as the top ranked GB Junior shooter at the event. After a tense battle for bronze with a shooter from Scotland, with only 0.4 of a point’s difference, Lewis claimed third place where he was then eliminated. Lewis also claimed bronze in the men’s team of three event too. Lewis has recently been promoted to the Great Britain Junior Performance squad which is

a team of the top 25 shooters in the country whose physiological and psychological skills

are regularly trained and tested in the hope they can represent GB at future Olympic and

Commonwealth Games. Lewis’ success is fresh off the back of a gold medal he won in

Germany earlier this year whilst shooting for Great Britain in another major junior

international shooting event. We wish Lewis all the best and will be keeping a close eye

on his future shooting exploits.
