Happy New Year My Brothers! I hope this finds you all safe and well beginning this gloriousNew Year! Our past year was sorrowful to say the least. We tragically lost 12 of our Brothers to thatgreat Heaven above. Their names will be remembered as they will be at the closing of the MemorialLodge on January 4th. Our hearts are heavy with the loss, but our spirits are raised because we know

that they are with their loved ones and The Great Architect has blessed them and will keep them in his arms. They will be a part of his great Lodge above and I am sure their work will meet with his approval.

    Luke 23:43

And he said to him, Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.

May the Great Architect Bless you all and keep you safe in the coming year. Peace Brothers.

Brethren, by the time you receive this trestle board the new officers of the lodge will have been elected

and the excitement of the installation come and gone. The newly installed officers now face the challenge of

running the lodge. Now, some may think, how hard can that be? You just have to conduct a lodge meetingtwice a month. If only it were that simple. The lodge meetings are a small part of what it takes to run a lodge.

You would be surprised to see what it takes to keep the lodge running smoothly. I make mention of this be-

cause the line officers will need your support, guidance, and words of confidence, while trying their best to

oversee the activities of the lodge.

Looking forward, we have a busy year ahead of us. Besides the normal business meetings, we have

several fund raisers planned. We are also planning to work with our youth groups in their fund raising endeav-

ors. And of course there will also be the issue of maintaining the building. The things we hope to accomplish

will need the help of others. I'm relying on each of you to play a part in accomplishing the goals for the year. Please Help. Get Involved. When you see things getting accomplished, it's very rewarding.

    From the Secretarys Desk

Happy New Year Brothers! I want towish each of you a prosperous and joyoustime in the coming year. First I would

like to thank the Brothers for having their faith in meand electing me once again to serve as your Secre-tary. It is an honor and privilege that I am most

happy to accept. I hope that I can live up to yourhigh expectations.

I would also like to congratulate the new in-coming Officers of the Lodge. They have a toughjob ahead of them and I feel that they are more thanable to meet the tasks given them. I hope that all theBrothers will offer their support to them and helpthem this coming year to make our Lodge the pre-mier Lodge in the 18th District!

If you werent aware, I will tell you that the

Brothers who were delinquent in their dues and

voted on by the Craft, were suspended on the morn-ing of December 28, 2013. This was done reluc-tantly and with sadness but it was done according toMasonic Law and the Florida Digest. I hope thatthey will come forward and pay their dues and be re-instated.

There are a few things coming up this yearthat will hopefully, please the Brothers of the Lodge. We have a Craft and Art show on March 1st andthat will coincide with our Saturday morning Break-fast. We will also be serving lunch so hopefully the

Lodge will benefit from this and raise some muchneeded funds.I have placed two pages in the Trestle Board

that I hope all the Brothers will use. The first is forMasonic Education report form and is used to re-

port any activity that we go to and receive MasonicEducation. The second is an Announcement formto be used to submit any announcements you mayhave to the Worshipful Master to give at the end ofthe meeting and also that I may send out via e-mailevery week. In both cases, please fill them out and

drop them in the slot in the Secretarys door and Iwill make sure they are handled correctly. If youhave any questions on this please come by and seeme. I will be continuing to be in the Lodge on Tues-days and Fridays from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM andmore often if needed. I also forward all the Lodgecalls to my cell phone when Im not there so yourcalls will be answered Brothers! Thank you again

    for this honor. WHank DeBerry

    From the West

Bro. Ron GloverThank you Brothers for the confidence you

have shown in me by voting me Senior Warden for thisnew year. I am grateful and humbled to be in this posi-tion to help our lodge. I am looking forward to our la-

bors and the challenges that will arise by being in theSenior Warden chair. As WJohn Haas moves to theeast I am aware that I have some large shoes to fill.

Due to the age of our lodge building both he and W

M Jim Angelos had some tough decisions to makethis past year and I will endeavor to tackle any situa-tions that arise with the same amount of decorum as

    they showed.

Since the start of my Masonic journey I haveenjoyed every chair I have had the privilege of sitting

in and have greatly appreciated all the advice and en-couragement given to me over the past few years whilemoving through them. With experience comes wisdomand I enjoy any advice or constructive criticism givento me by every Brother while fulfilling the obligationsrequired of the chair. It shows you care about our

    lodge.

For those Brothers that are not aware, this pastyear, every Tuesday when there is not a meeting theofficers have been meeting at the Lodge to practice theOpenings and Closings, upcoming Degree works, Al-

ternate Openings and Closings, and floor work. Thesepractices are open to anybody and they have been agreat source of enjoyment and fellowship over the pastyear and I look forward to attending the practices againthis year. I encourage any brother who wants to partici-pate or just sit and watch so they can see the line offi-

cers or offer advice to come and have a good time.

Thank you again my Brothers for this opportunity. Ihope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season andmay the Great Architect bless you and your loved ones

    in this new year.

    Brethren,

Welcome from the South. As the position ofone who calls the craft from Labor to Refresh-ment and Refreshment to Labor it is the respon-sibility of the Junior Warden to oversee thefunction of the kitchen and refreshments for thecraft. One part of this responsibility is a lineitem in our Lodge operating budget for generat-ing income from our events such as the FirstSaturday Breakfasts, Second Sunday Dinners, contributions for refreshments at our stated andcalled meetings and other official functionswhere refreshments are provided to support the

Lodge. The Lodge makes a small profit overour expenses from these functions which fulfills

    the budget expectations.

It is expensive to maintain our Lodge propertybetween insurance, utility bills, regular mainte-nance issues, electric and our charitable obliga-tions. Your support of our fundraising projectsis therefore greatly appreciated. We do look for-ward to support as we start a newyear in 2014.As always your comments and suggestions foradditions or improvements to our menu offering

    is always greatly appreciated.

    Roles and How We Play

    Them

    W. Wally Zink

    Whenever Im downhearted

and disappointed with my role in life, I stop andthink about little Jamie Scott. Jamie was tryingout for a part in the fourth grade school play. Hismother told me that he had his heart set on beingin it, though she suspected that he would not bechosen. On the day the parts were assigned, Ja-mie rushed home, ran into the house and with theexcitement of a ten year old shouted Guess what

Mom, and then in words that have hung in my

mind these many years and have been a lesson tome, Jamie declared with pride, Ive been chosen

to clap and cheer. It is recorded that Abraham Lincoln often

visited hospitals to talk with the wounded soldiersduring the Civil War. On one such visit, doctorspointed out a young soldier who was near death.Lincoln walked over to his bedside. Is there any-

thing I can do for you? asked the President. Ob-

viously the soldier did not recognize Lincoln, andwith exerted effort he was able to whisper,Would you please write a letter to my mother?

A pen and paper were given to the President andLincoln carefully began to write down what theyoung man was able to say: My dearest mother,

I was badly hurt while doing my duty. I amafraid I am not going to recover. Dont grieve

too much for me, please. Kiss Mary and John forme. May God bless you and father. The soldier

was too weak to continue, so Lincoln signed theletter for him and added, Written for your son by

Abraham Lincoln. The young lad asked to see

the note and was astonished when he discoveredwho had written it. Are you really the Presi-

dent? he whispered. Yes I am. Lincoln replied

quietly. Then Lincoln asked if there was any-thing else that he could do?Would you please hold my hand? the

soldier asked. It will help me see it through to

the end. In the hushed room, the tall gaunt

President took the boys hand and silently held it

until death came.If there is a lesson in these two incidents,

it is simply this; it is not the roles we play in lifebut how well do we play the role we have?
