Our Purpose...
To reach people with the love of Jesus Christ, provide a safe and
supportive environment, proclaim the standards of God’s truth,
duplicate the Christian life in others, and celebrate the majesty
and works of Our Great God.
New to Salem Heights?
Welcome! We are glad you’re here! We invite you to
seek out the folks wearing the “Ask Me” badge.
Through them you will find information about the
ministries of Salem Heights Church and how to
become involved. Please fill out a Visitor Card and drop
it in one of the offering boxes as you leave or scan this
code to go directly to our website and fill out a visitor card. We have
an excellent nursery and programs for children newborn through high
school. Any of the ushers will be happy to direct you to the proper
classroom. If you feel more comfortable having your infant with you
during the service, the last row in the Auditorium will be reserved for
parents with small children. There is a private room for nursing
mothers across the hall from the Auditorium with a rocking chair,
changing table and portable crib. For your convenience, it also
includes a monitor to enable you to still hear and view the service.

Giving Update
THE MINISTRY OF SALEM HEIGHTS CHURCH The ministry of Salem Heights Church is funded entirely by the generous giving of God’s people. You will notice that we do not pass the offering plate; however, there are offering boxes in the back of the auditorium. We have done this so no one gives out of compulsion. We believe from the Word of God that the Spirit of God will lead people towards giving back to God of their first fruits. “...God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor. 9:7) and we know He blesses those who take His Word seriously in every regard. Thank you for prayerfully supporting Salem Heights financially as we desire to reach the lost and disciple the Saints.
(Prayerfully consider what the Lord would have you do.)

“CHILDREN BE READY, JESUS IS COMING!”
1 Peter 4:7-11
Presented by Pastor Carl Chica
December 29, 2013
Introduction
Jesus is coming? I thought that baby Jesus just arrived! Our time celebrating the coming of the promised Messiah at Christmas quickly transitions into the spring and a time of remembering the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Both events are at the foundation of what we believe as faithful children of God. We have been saved by our heavenly Father by placing our faith in the finished work of Christ. Praise Him! Did you know that these two key events were mentioned in the Scriptures we call the Old Testament repeatedly? Time and time again the Scriptures declared the coming of Christ the Messiah. One scholar sites that of the 23,210 verses in the Old Testament, 6,641 contain predictions pertaining to future events with a highlight on the first coming of the Messiah. In the New Testament, we find that out of 7,914 verses there are 1,711 verses that contain predictions regarding the end times and Second Coming of Christ.1
The highlight of future promises is the return of our Savior Jesus. This next great event is known as the “End” of what we know now and the “Beginning” of His earthly reign. Children of God be ready! Jesus is coming!
THE END OF THINGS IS NEAR… The End (tel’-os)
• The word refers to that which is consummated, or a goal that is achieved , or a completion of a program or goal.
• In this passage it is describing the sovereign plan of God as
coming to a completion .
• Christ is coming for the Father’s children and the end of our time on this earth is coming to an end.
Is Near (eng-id’-zo)
• This term implies being near and at any time. • From this term we get the world imminency.
• The return of the Lord is “imminent” or can happen at any
time .
• All prophecies that precede the return of Christ have been fulfilled .
HOW ARE WE TO BE READY? Be of sound judgment and sober spirit…
• Do not be swept away by emotions and passions . • We must maintain an eternal perspective on life.
• Our time here on earth is temporary .
• He is returning for us and this anticipation should inspire
the pursuit of holiness . The purpose of prayer • When we have an eternal perspective we will be devoted to
interaction with our Father who loves us. • If we are swept away by emotions and passions we will not
experience the communion we find with our Father through prayer.
Fervent in your love for one another … • Fervent means to be stretched out or be strained . • This type of love for others will cost us something.
Love covers a multitude of sins. • As ones who have been forgiven much we should be ready to
forgive insults and unkindness against us.
Be hospitable to one another … • Dictionary definition – The friendly and generous reception
and entertainment of guests, visitors or strangers. • Love of strangers
As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. • Every single believer receives a spiritual gift upon salvation.
• This gift is described as a “grace gift .”
• It is not earned and is supernatural .
REFLECTION QUESTIONS

2. What distractions exist in your life that takes your focus away from being ready?
3. What needs to continue to change in your life?
4. Are you available to serve the Father and love others?
