The Central Atlantic Collegiate Confer-ence is an NCAA Division II Conference composed of 14 institutions in Connecti-cut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The member institutions are Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, Chestnut Hill College, Concordia (NY) College, Dominican (N.Y.) College, Feli-cian College, Georgian Court University, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family University, Nyack College, Philadelphia University, Post University, University of the Sciences and Wilmington University.

The CACC was founded in 1961. A meet-ing of eight schools was arranged and host-ed by Norm Wilhelmi, Athletic Director at The King's (NY) College. The meeting resulted in the forming a new conference, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The conference included eight original members in the fall of 1961. They were Bloomfield College, Dowling College, The King's College, Marist College, Monmouth College, Nyack College, C.W. Post College and Southampton College.

After years of transition and member-ship changes, NAIA members Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, Dominican College, Georgian Court College, Nyack College, Teikyo- Post University and St. Thomas Aquinas College made applica-tion to the NCAA Division II. The seven schools applied for membership in the fall of 1998. In 2002 the CACC qualified for NCAA Division II Provisional Conference Status and it achieved Active Status in July of 2004. Six schools: Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, Dominican College, Feli-cian College, Georgian Court College and Post University, became full Division II members in 2002-03. Holy Family College, Goldey-Beacom College, Nyack College and University of the Sciences in Phila-delphia became active DII members in 2003-04, followed by Wilmington College in 2004-05.

During the span from 1999-2009, the conference underwent numerous changes in addition to upgrading to Division II. In 1999, St. Thomas Aquinas left the conference and five new members joined. Felician College, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family College, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and Wilmington College, all NAIA schools, immediately ap-

plied for Division II status upon becoming members. In 2000, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) boosted the member-ship to 12 schools and that number grew to 13 in 2005 as Philadelphia University started active membership. NJIT moved on to Division I status after the 2005-06 season. The addition of Chestnut Hill College in 2007 and Concordia College in 2009 brought the CACC to 14 members. Only four conferences in Division II have more members.

The CACC currently offers 13 champion-ship sports, including men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's and wom-en's tennis, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's golf and women's lacrosse. Currently, nine of the CACC's season-ending tournaments lead to automatic NCAA qualifications, includ-ing women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's bas-ketball, softball, baseball and men's golf.

With its ascent to active Division II status, the Conference made major improvements by introducing a new website and logo. Both were unveiled in July of 2004. The website, www.caccathletics.org, contains updated stats, schedules, results, photos and news about all 14 member schools. The site underwent a complete redesign in the summer of 2009 and is scheduled for another in 2012.

The CACC adopted its current logo from a design submitted by Royal Rooster Design of Iowa. In 2009, the CACC commissioned seperate logos for each conference sport and in 2010 added championship tourna-ment logos for all sports. A 50th Anniver-sary Logo was created for the 2011-2012 academic year. The logos are trademarked through an agreement with Strategic Marketing Alliance (SMA) to protect and market the CACC marks.

Off the court and field, the CACC and its student-athletes take pride in the balance between academics and athletics. The CACC finished third nationally among Division II Conferences for the gradua-tion rate of its student-athletes, according to the latest NCAA report. Furthermore, the conference established its inaugural All-Academic team in the fall of 2004 and

the number of names on the list continues to grow each year. The CACC honored 285 scholar-athletes in 2010-2011.

The CACC has also become one of the national leaders in the annual Division II Make-A-Wish Foundation fundraiser. The 13 CACC schools raised $12,218 in 2008-09, the eighth-highest total in Division II.

Division II is composed of 23 confer-ences and seven independent institutions ranging from coast-to-coast-and beyond. Division II is the only NCAA member-ship division with programs in Alaska and Puerto Rico. Furthermore, four of the five colleges on Hawaii are members of Divi-sion II.

2013 Season Outlook

Tigers Look to Repeat as CACC Champs in 2013

The Holy Family University women’s lacrosse team is coming off a historic 2012 campaign in which the team set a number of records and won the program’s first ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Confer-ence (CACC) Championship. Holy Family finished the 2012 season with a program-best 14-4 overall record and 11-1 in conference play. With its 11 wins in con-ference play, Holy Family also claimed its first CACC Regular Season Title. The Tigers went on to win its final 11 games, capped off with a 15-10 victory at Georgian Court University for the CACC Champi-onship. Holy Family returns ten players from last year’s championship team, including senior Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) who earned CACC Player of the Year accolades last season. McNesby set new career marks in points (67), goals (50), assists (17), ground balls (49) and draw controls (129). She finished the season ranked fourth in the conference in goals and fifth in total points. Her 129 draw controls were second most in Division II. In addition to the ten returners, Holy Family will welcome in seven newcomers adding depth and youth to the team. After last year’s success, the Tigers were recently selected as the favorites to claim the CACC South Division Regular Season Title as voted by the conference’s head coaches in the annual preseason poll. Even with last year’s success, the Tigers will look to be focused on the task at hand entering 2013.

“It comes from the returners a lot of the time,” said second year head coach Elizabeth Weber on keeping the team focused after last season’s success. “They know what it takes and where the team has been. It’s on the shoulders of their teammates to make themselves better and each other better. As a staff, we always try to keep our goals in mind at practice.”

ATTACK Holy Family will return a few key components to the attack position, including McNesby, senior Maria Mattioli (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Nazareth) and sophomore Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace). Last season, Lancetta earned All-CACC Honorable Men-tion honors after setting a new program record for most goals (45) and points (49) scored by a freshman in a single season. Mattioli recorded new career-highs in goals (13), assists (2) and points (15) to go along with 30 ground balls. Christina Bonomo (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), a returner, who was a defender last year has worked hard in the off season to develop her role as an attacker for 2013. “We’ll have a young attack squad after graduating six players last season,” said Weber. “We brought in seven new players to fill the void of last year’s graduates. We are looking to be more dynamic on the offensive end and more of a threat on the attack.” Holy Family will feature newcomers in junior Brigit LaRose (Lumber-ton, N.J./Holy Cross) and freshman Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) to balance out the attacking unit.

13

2013 Season Outlook

MIDFIELD Holy Family will feature a mix of veterans and newcomers at the midfield position. The Tigers will have the experience of McNesby along with two-time All-CACC selection junior Marissa Lawson (York, Pa./Central York). Lawson scored a career-high 16 goals last season to go along with 19 ground balls. In addition, freshmen Nicole Braungart (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eu-stace) and Erin Harmer (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) will add some depth for the Tigers. “Our midfield is strong, quick and fast,” said Weber. We are going to use our speed to our advantage this season.”

DEFENSE This year’s defenders will be young bunch, but have the potential to be a solid core of players. “We are looking to be a solid defensive unit this year,” said Weber. “Last year we allowed a lot of goals and will be looking to limit that this year. We have some key returners and newcomers that will mix well together.” Last season, Holy Family allowed the third least amount of goals (209), but countered that scoring the third most goals in the confer-ence with 257. Holy Family will rely on senior Jessica Maloney (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and sophomores Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) and Kimber Kisselback (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) to help anchor the defense. All three saw significant playing time last season including Kelly who started 17 games her freshman season. Kelly scored 18 goals and tallied four assists for 22 points. She also recorded 28 ground balls.

The team will also have sophomores MaryKate Morris (Philadel-phia, Pa./Saint Hubert’s) and Caitlin Carrezola (Langhorne, Pa./Ne-shaminy) along with freshmen Ashley Magagna (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and Kayla O’Donnell (Collingswood, N.J./Colling-swood) to add depth to the position.

GOALKEEPER Holy Family will have a new goalkeeper in net this season for the first time in four years. The Tigers will look to fill the void of three-time All-CACC selection Melissa Jenkins after graduating last season. This year, freshman Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) will hold down the net for the Tigers. “This is her first year and we’re looking for [Grace] to step up big for us,” said Weber. “She has a great clear and sees the field well. She will learn and continue to get better in each game she plays in this season.”

SCHEDULE This year’s schedule is probably the most competitive the Tigers have had in program history. The team will compete in a 17-game schedule, including ten CACC contests and seen non-conference match ups. This season, Holy Family will be on the road for 10 games and will host seven games at Tiger Field. “We have a solid conference schedule and a tough non-conference schedule this season,” said Weber. “We’ll be playing the National Champions (LIU Post) on the road along with a bunch of other ranked teams. This schedule will give us a gage on where we are to start the season and where we need to be in the middle and at the end of the season.” Holy Family opens its season on Saturday, March 2 with a non-con-ference contest at Seton Hill University. The team’s first home game will take place on Thursday, March 7 against Queens College. The Tigers will begin defense of their CACC Title with their first confer-ence game of the year on Wednesday, March 20 at Wilmington University. In April, Holy Family will face all conference opponents, includ-ing a rematch from last year’s CACC Championship game at home versus Georgian Court on Saturday, April 6. This year’s conference championship is scheduled for April 27 and 28 at Georgian Court in Lakewood, N.J. Holy Family has the experience and talent to return to the confer-ence championship and repeat as champions. The Tigers also have their sights set on advancing even further with possibly the pro-gram’s first ever NCAA Tournament bid. “ We are looking to get back to the CACC Tournament again this sea-son,” said Weber. “Hopefully along the way we upset a few teams outside our conference and make the NCAA Division II Tournament.”
