Erciyes Volcano. Turkey.Hello everybody from snowkiting gangs.

This issue #14 of WKS is about our snowkiting trip in Turkey during two weeks on last 2013 march. You’ll find as well a «BONUS» report featuring the 2014 OZONE photoshooting in Serre-Chevalier, Lauta-ret, Montgenèvre, in the southern french Alps during last april.

That is the first WKS issue for this new 2014 winter coming soon. Here in France, the snowy weather is an-nounced and the snowkiting kick-off is due to the end of this week.

Well, it’s been a while since the last WKS #13 issue as I was always on the roads or trips during all the end of the past season. Sorry folks. But here we are now, the new season is starting, find along the further pages some snowkiting photos and han-dy infos. Close to Kayseri in the center of Turkey country, the Erciyes resort is a real great snowkiting spot. Pretty easy to get there, not expan-sive accomodations, starting kiting right next to the hotel, open wide areas with gentle slopes, big volca-no for high-mountain atmosphere, you will be really happy to plan a journey in winter for sure.

For the 4th

winter, I’m lucky enough to be

invited in the Erciyes re-sort by MISTER Murat Bükey

who is the OZONE kites distributor in Turkey. Really good kitesurfer, pretty

easy on the snow as well, Murat always makes his best to organize the week with all the comfort and

perfect scheddule about every points in order to offer an unforgettable snowkiting trip to his guests. If the Turkish coasts

are already famous for kitesurfing, there are more and more local snowkiters who join our week, year after year.

The level is pretty high and some of the Turkish freestylers can make real good show on the

kickers in front of the resort. Murat is making great job to push the

snowkiting sport growing up step by step for

now the past 5 years.

The main

person here in the ERCIYES

resort is Mister Mehmet Eglenceoglu on the left, here

with Baris Düldül teaching. Owner of the Arlberg Sport center, with ski-shop,

restaurant, accomodations, Mr Mehmet was international turkish team race-ski competitor and

here managed to cruise around with the Ozone Access kite immediately after few minutes practising. Well, if you plan to

go snowkiting at Erciyes volcano, don’t hesitate to contact the Arlberg ski & snowboard center for booking your

room. Baris here on the right, is kite instructor and more on the terrain. Always kiting

with us, Baris as well was in charge about organizing every moment

of our trip with Murat Bükey. Big Up to

tains, hill-gliding. Some kiters

might be better for one of these

points but nobody else for both.

3- Stefano Gigli from Italia.

Stefano is the Ozone kites dis-

tributor in Italia. Very good

kitesurfer, always ready for

big-mountains snowkiting ses-

sions. Stefano reached the Etna

volcano summit in Sicilia but is

enjoying the beauty of Mother

Nature before the kiting perfor-

mance.

4- Marek «MURPHY» Zach

from Czech Republic. Marek

is mainly into freestyle snow-

kiting. Already winner of the

SNOWKITEMASTERS. Best

kitesurfer and snowkiter from

CZ, this crazy friend never

miss any occasion to set his

scary «Murphy Cliff Project».

5- Wareck Arnaud, from

France. Wareck is one of the

snowkiting pioneers in France.

Johann, Wareck is producing

great movies at Ride Up TV.

That was my 4th time here in Erciyes for snowkiting. Always invited by Murat Bükey. Every time I had really great sessions around. During the two past years, the snowpack was very big. All these slopes we can see in the background were cove-red of huge amount of fresh snow. This is the second time here with not so much snowpack, only the first time, four years ago, was as well not so cold. Anyway, this is the bottom of the resort, about 1.800m elevation and from the Arlberg Hotel, we can go cruising up toward the Erciyes Volcano slopes and up-there is always a very lot of snow. Luckily it’s possible to trust the weather forecast in Turkey. So, for the second year, we planed to have a snowkiting day-off when all the medias were announcing a 12 hours no-wind window. So we went visiting the Capadoccia villages. Here is Ürgüp, which is our favorite, although all the other villages are as well amazing. Pomegra-nate fruit juice is the best here and we can have a glass, straight from the fruit, when meeting the shops along our road or stops near the tourist places.

to the amazing Capadoccia

country. Only two hours dri-

ving slowly and we can reach

the most beautiful and strange

stone natural shapes with inside

houses. So, Murat and Baris pro-

posed to visit Goreme, Uçhisar,

and other wonderful cities. This

occasion served to Murphy for

his «Project» which is always

funny, extreme, a kind of high

performance anyway, although

the sponsors are not absolutely

happy with this special way

for promoting their products...

Oupss. Murphy is and will

remain a bad-boy or punk and

that’s the way we love him !!!

Bon, quand j’ai préparé les

For the first time after 3 seasons, we finaly managed to reach the summit of the Erciyes volcano, 3.916m. Sou-thern wind is needed and we never got it before. So, even if it’s super hard to cruise along the volcano bottom slopes from the resort to this southern face here on the picture, it was a strong fee-ling to reach the summit with very dan-gerous wind. I wish you to make it.

They found these bear-suits in the Arlberg Sport Hotel, so decided to have a freestyle session with funny story-telling for the Ride-Up video. Not seen yet but for sure will come out sooner of later. «White Kite Sessions» was proud to be part of the 2014 OZONE photoshoo-ting last april in France. A spring week with the new kite models and the international team-mates for high-level sessions and cool images about our snowkiting sport. Let’s have a look at that.

Set in Serre-Chevalier, the photoshooting brought us to the best places around depending of the wind conditions. Lautaret was one of the spots. Cervières as well (photo here). But the main area was in Mont- genèvre. We had to take the chairlift and then ready to climb the big ridges from the top of the resort. High mountains, freestyle, crui-sing, all in one every day.

This not so often we can spend some sessions with the inter-national crew. Iain Hannay from Spain, on the top left, is the Ozone manager now and was taking care about each of us for the best comfort as possible. Bottom left, here is Dominik Zim-mermann from Germany who was organising every details for this shooting. Collecting the kite models with all sizes, booking the accomodation, dispatching the kiters with the cars, checking out what is done and what’s remaining to do. Dom, high-level kiter, was the man for this event. With orange jacket and pho-to-camera, here is Wareck Arnaud, official Ozone photographer and top-level kiter. You can have a look at the Wareck’s images on the flyozone.com website or 2014 brochure. Bottom right, we are happy to welcome Hugues Beaume as team-kiter during the week. Hugues is a local gunner and always reaching the ultimate peaks around Lautaret, Cervières or Queyras.

A special page for the younger competitor of PKRA world championships, Patrick Blanc from Spain. Patrick was competing at the Snowkitemasters as well in the past years but now is mainly into kitesurfing for world top level sessions or filming. So that was really great to have Patrick with us during the first days although he hasn’t been lucky with the weather as you can see on the pic-ture. Anyway, he performed really strong. I’ve been checking everywhere to find a link for the Patrick’s home-page but didn’t get any. Sorry guys.

You already know Johann Civel as we saw him during the Erciyes report. Johann is the real local guy here for this photoshooting. On the picture, this is the Chenaillet ridge and Jojo was the first with Wareck and Rémi Dineur to reach the sum-mit with the kites. A few words about the kites. First, the entry level model : Access. This kite is the more stable, safe, soft, that you can find on the market. The performance is not the top but sin-cerely I don’t think any kiter will feel it too much slow or the preci-sion not high enough for cruising in the mountains. My opinion is that the ACCESS is the best kite for the beginners for sure but as well for about 80% of the snowkiters. Why producing the SUMMIT if the Frenzy is the best kite ever? Because some kiters, a very small part of them, are expecting more ;-) And that is the case with SUMMIT about the speed, the power, the fast reactions. Perfect for the top-level freestylers. Not sure that the name «Summit» is . the right one as when reaching the top of the peaks, we need a stable and smooth kite. Anyway, the Summit is an outstanding product, definitely.

If you plan to go to a new mountain, check on KITE-TRACKER where to start from, the path to follow, the highest points rea-chable. It’s free, of course. Available now for IOS7 and Android.
