DUGOUT CHATTERHAASE EARNS AWARD FOR WORK IN THE CLASSROOM … Sophomore Makaila Haase teamed up with classmate Juanita Bustamante to direct and produce, “Pretty in Pink, Covered in Dirt.” The documentary featuring Haase’s younger sister, McKenna, depicts the progression of her sprint car driving career. On Sunday, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences: Midwest Emmy chapter presented the duo with a Crystal Pilar, winning the long non-fiction film award. You can watch the documentary here.

LONG-BALL BOMBER … Junior Katie Serpico leads the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with seven homeruns so far this season. She also finds herself in third place, in the conference, with 30 RBI’s. Loras has put 21 balls over the fence as a team leading the conference.

DUHAWKS PICKED TO FINISH 7th IN CONFERENCE … The Iowa Conference released its Preseason Coach’s Poll on Friday, March 28th. Receiving 21 points, the Duhawks were projected to finish seventh in 2014, ahead of Wartburg and behind Buena Vista and University of Dubuque.

DUHAWKS TAKE TWO FROM UWP … Loras this past week picked up two wins against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. In game one Serpico was the star going four-for-four picking up five RBI’s and two runs in the process. Senior Lara Mangialardi got the win in game two. She pitched five innings allowing 2 runs and struck out two batters.

STRIKEOUT CANCER … Loras will once again team up with crosstown rival, University of Dubuque, to “Strikeout Cancer” and raise breast cancer awareness on Tuesday, April 15th.

KELSEY BOGE NAMED TO COACHING STAFF … Former Duhawk softball standout, Kelsey (Techlin) Boge was tabbed as assistant coach in the offseason. Boge (‘11) holds the single season stolen base record (24) and the career stolen base record (51) for Loras. She received Iowa Conference Honorable Mention her senior year, being recognized for the threat she posed on the bases and slapping abilities in the box. Boge joins the coaching staff charged with the primary tasks of working with slappers, baserunners, and outfielders.
