Law Enforcement Mini Academy dates

All full time commissioned deputies, below the rank of Captain, must attend one of the

below listed mini academies to satisfy their CLEET mandated continuing education

requirement. Classes are limited to 30 so you MUST enroll with the training division

administrative assistant, by phone or e-mail. Don’t put it off get it done!!

January 31- Feb 2 Feb 13-15

March 5-7 April 23-25

May 14-16 June 25-27

July 9-11 September 4-6

October 1-3 November 5-7

Reserve Firearms in-service and qualification

All reserve deputies must attend a firearm in-service and successfully shoot a qualifying

score with their pistol. Reserve deputies may attend the first day of the Law Enforcement

Mini Academies listed above, this will satisfy your in-service requirement and with a

score of 72% or higher the qualification requirement set forth by CLEET. If you are

unable to attend one of the Law Enforcement Mini Academy dates we will offer The

Reserve Firearms In-Service on TWO Saturdays, listed below. That makes 11

opportunities to qualify with you pistol, if you fail to attend any of these days and you do

not qualify this year your certification will be suspended by CLEET.

May 19th October 20th

Reserve LEDT In-Service

All reserve deputies that have been through a 3 day basic LEDT Course and drive county

vehicles as a part their reserve duties, must complete an LEDT in-service. The LEDT in-

service dates will be the third day of each mini academy and the class will begin at

1230.

Night fire orientations

All Deputies must attend one of the night fire orientations listed below. There is no need

to enroll for this training event, but you must attend once this year. The safety briefing

will begin 30 minutes before it gets dark, DO NOT CALL AND ASK “WHEN IS

NIGHT FIRE?” Just be here before it gets dark.

Firearms Training courses

Firearms courses to be held at the Oklahoma County Range are listed below. These

classes are open to any deputy, reserve or full time (with the approval of their

supervisor), and any outside agency certified law enforcement officer that would like to

attend.

Oklahoma County Sniper School Oct 29-Nov 2 (Rangemaster discretion)

Full time deputies who are permitted to attend the Advanced Shotgun, Patrol Rifle, or

Advanced Auto-Pistol School will be provided ammunition to attend. Class size is

limited so you must notify Lt. Jim Anderson via e-mail once you have permission to

attend a class, to confirm your enrollment.

Shotgun in-service and qualification

All deputies that are issued a county shotgun must attend a 4 hour in-service and qualify

with their shotgun. Any deputy that would like to attend this training event is welcome,

but it is mandatory if you have a county issued shotgun. This class will be held the day

after the Mini Academy is complete and it will be a 4 hour block beginning at 0800.

Ammunition will be provided for full time deputies and reserves on the ammo list.

Patrol rifle in-service and qualification

All deputies who have successfully completed the Patrol rifle or The Open Sight Rifle

class must attend a 4 hour in-service and qualify with the rifle they carry. You may not

borrow a rifle to attend this in-service, if you do not have a rifle you do not need to

qualify with one. This class will be held the day after the Mini Academy is completed

and it will be a 4 hour block beginning at 1300. Ammunition will be provided for full

time deputies and reserves on the ammo list.

Command Staff Firearms Qualifications

Range days will be made available to Captains and above to satisfy the CLEET mandated

Firearms qualification requirement. This is an informal training event that will be set up

to accommodate the scheduling needs of the shooter. Please contact Lt. Jim Anderson to

set up a time to come out.

Rapid Response to Active Shooter

This class will be held twice this summer to train the deputies that were hired in 2007 and

since. All other deputies received this training during the 2006 mini-academy. All

supervisors need to identify who has not received this training and enroll their people

accordingly. The dates this class will be held are listed below.

LEDT – Law Enforcement Driver Training (3 Day Basic)

This class is required for all full time deputies and reserve deputies that operate county

vehicles. Most received this class during their CLEET academy. Reserve deputies must

demonstrate a need for this class, like assignment to Reserve Patrol Division,

Transportation, etc.

DEFENSIVE TACTICS

The material covered in these classes will vary by date. Be sure to check the course

description to establish what will be covered. These classes are open to all Fulltime or

Reserve Deputies As well as Detention Officers. Outside Agencies are welcome however

a liability waiver must be completed and classes will be filled with Oklahoma County

personal first. There must be at least 10 students signed up for this class 15 days prior to

the class start. If enough students have not enrolled the class will be contacted via e-mail.

DEFENSIVE TACTICS ASSOCIATE INSTRUCTOR

the “A-DTI” will be directly involved in assisting the training division teach defensive tactics, Use of Force and management of Aggressive Behavior to Detention Academies, In Service Training for Detention Officers as well as Law Enforcement Officers and the Reserve Basic Academy.

This class will be extremely physical. Students should be prepared to participate in a fast paced, stressful learning environment.

• 100% attendance

• 100% participation

• Pass all Skills testing with 95% or better

• Pass all Written Tests with 95% or better

• Complete an Apprentice phase.

o Plan, teach and test a basic Detention Academy

Defensive Tactics Block.

This class will be open to all Detention Officers, Detention Deputies, and Deputies (full time or reserve). Class size will be limited to 16 officers, 10 male and 6 female.

THIS CLASS WILL NOT BE HELD IN 2011!

You must contact The Training Division to enroll in any class you wish to attend. All

courses offered in the catalog are free of charge to attend by any certified and

commissioned law enforcement officer. Reserve deputies and outside agency personnel

must provide their own ammunition and supplies.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Advanced Shotgun School

The advanced shotgun operator course will provide the student with the classroom and

range instruction necessary to very effectively employ the police shotgun in a variety of

situations. This course will demonstrate that with the proper technique the police shotgun

can be utilized for precise up close engagement of hostage takers as well as engaging a

hostile target at 175 yards and beyond. The course will include but not be limited to

Close fire drills, Patterning, Select a slug, Sling presentation, Malfunction clearance,

Positional shooting and Combat courses to induce stress. The course will also include

proper care and maintenance, safe handling, and loading and unloading.

This is a CLEET accredited class that upon successful completion will earn the student

24 hours of continuing education. There is no cost for the course and any commissioned

law enforcement officer is welcome to attend.

Equipment:

Remington 870 or 1187 12-gauge shotguns with magazine extensions and slings are

highly recommended. Range guns are available but limited. The student will be

responsible for the following equipment, foul weather gear, Safety equipment-eyes and

ears, cleaning equipment.

Ammunition:

250 Rounds of 9 pellet 00 buck shot

150 Rounds of 1oz rifled slug

Long Range Rifle Operator/Instructor

The Long Range Rifle Operator School will provide the student with the classroom and

range instruction necessary to effectively employ a scoped rifle from a variety of ranges

and positions. The course will be limited to 20 shooters, so first come first serve. The

course will include but not be limited to: Basic ballistics, Rifle maintenance, Cold bore

target engagements, Positional shooting, Range card preparation, and Environmental

effects on the shooter and his equipment.

An instructor level certification will be given upon successful completion of the class if

the student is a CLEET certified firearms instructor.

Weapon and equipment requirements:

Quality scoped rifle (.30 caliber or larger bolt action recommended)

750 rounds of ammunition (Rifle and Ammo combination should be capable of

holding a 1.5 inch (1.5 MOA) group at 100 yards)

Cleaning equipment (One piece cleaning rod highly recommended)

Ground pad or shooting mat

Foul weather gear (Only lightning will stop the class)

Small calculator

Personal protective gear (Eye and ear protection)

Dress comfortably we will be doing a lot of walking.

Patrol Rifle School

The Patrol Rifle Operator School will provide the student with the classroom and range

instruction necessary to effectively employ a rifle from a variety of ranges and positions.

This class will cover but not be limited to basic shooting fundamentals, positions,

cleaning, maintenance, malfunction clearance drills, weapon transitions to pistol,

reloading, shooting from cover, vehicle deployment, and stress fire. This class is limited

to 24 shooters so first come first serve.

24 Hours CLEET Credit (done in two 12 hour days)

Prerequisites: None

Weapon Requirements:

.223 caliber rifle with a sling.

AR-15 type rifles are highly recommended

3 magazines

Sights are the option of the shooter.

If it was cheap it will likely not work.

Ammunition Requirements:

700 rounds of quality ammunition.

200 rounds of pistol ammunition.

Cleaning equipment

Eye and ear protection

Foul weather gear

Sub Gun/Select Fire Operator School

The Sub Gun/Select Fire Operators Course will provide the student with the classroom

and range instruction necessary to effectively employ the weapon system from a variety

of ranges and positions. This class will cover but not be limited to basic shooting

fundamentals, positions, cleaning and maintenance, malfunction clearance drills, weapon

transition to pistol, reloading, shooting from cover, vehicle deployment, and stress fire.

24 Hours of CLEET Credit

Prerequisites: None

Weapon requirements:

Select fire weapon capable of full auto fire as well as semi auto mode with a sling.

HK MP5 or M-16 type weapons are highly recommended.

Ammunition Requirements:

3000 rounds of quality ammunition

Cleaning equipment

Eye and ear protection

Foul weather gear

Select Fire Instructor School

The Select Fire Instructors Course will provide the student with the classroom and range

instruction necessary to effectively operate and instruct the weapon system from a variety

of ranges and positions. This class will cover but not be limited to basic shooting

fundamentals, positions, cleaning and maintenance, malfunction clearance drills, weapon

transition to pistol, reloading, shooting from cover, vehicle deployment, stress fire,

common student mistakes, cycle of operation, familiarization with other types of select

fire weapons, and a brief history of select fire weapons.

42 Hours of CLEET credit

Prerequisites: Prior certification as a CLEET Firearms Instructor

Weapon requirements:

Select fire weapon capable of full auto fire as well as semi auto mode with a sling.

HK MP5 or M-16 type weapons are highly recommended.

Open bolt weapons like the Uzi, Mac 10, Mac 11, and Thompsons are not

recommended due to the unlikelihood of meeting the qualification standard.

5000 rounds of quality ammunition

Advanced Auto Pistol

The Advanced Auto Pistol Course will provide the student with the classroom and range

instruction necessary to improve the overall proficiency of the shooter with their pistol.

This class will take the shooter beyond his or her comfort zone to push the shooter to

perform under stress and at greater ranges than before. This class will cover but not be

limited to basic shooting fundamentals, advanced shooting positions to facilitate faster

initial engagement and quicker follow-up shots, cleaning and maintenance, malfunction

clearance drills, reloading, shooting from cover, vehicle deployment, and stress fire.

24 Hours of CLEET credit

Prerequisites: None

Weapon and equipment requirements:

Semi auto pistol with 3 magazines

Duty gear.

Ammunition requirements:

700 rounds of quality ammunitions

Cleaning equipment

OCSO SWAT School

This school is based on the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Unit’s

methodology, which relies heavily on the two man married partners approach.

The school will include but not be limited to the following courses of instruction,

firearms drills, several different entry methods, vehicle assaults, legal issues, use of

shields, diversionary devices, breaching, break and rake, officer down drills, use of night

vision, use of chemical agents and impact munitions, culminating with simmunition

scenarios.

OCSO Advanced Sniper School

The Long Range Rifle Operator course is a Prerequisite for this class. Other reputable

long range rifle operator courses will considered on a case by case basis, at the discretion

of the Rangemaster. If the student does not have a solid foundation on how to run the

rifle out to 400 yards he or she will struggle greatly with the tempo of this class.

The Advanced Sniper School will provide the student with the classroom and range

instruction necessary to deploy as a Law Enforcement Rifleman/Sniper in support of a

tactical operation. This course will be limited to 20 shooters so First come first serve.

This course will include but not be limited to: Basic to Advanced ballistics, Rifle

Cleaning and Maintenance with as little affect on point of impact as possible, Cold bore

engagement, Camouflage, Stalking in urban and rural environments, Moving target

engagements, Limited time target exposures, Positional shooting, Mil-Dot Ranging,

unknown distance target engagement, Known distance target engagement, Data book

preparation, and Range card preparation.

50 Hours of CLEET credit

Required equipment

Quality scoped rifle with a sling (capable of consistently holding a 1.5 MOA (1.5 inch)

group at 100 yards.

750 rounds of duty grade ammunition

Rifle cleaning equipment

Bi-pod or ruck sack to use for rifle rest

Data book (I will have some if you do not)

Rapid Response to Active Shooter The Rapid Response to an Active Shooter Course will give the student the necessary

classroom, range, and scenario based instruction to effectively combat an active shooter

situation. It will include but not be limited to firearms drills, rapid deployment

techniques, use of force discussion, critical incident response philosophies, and scenario

based force on force exercises.

This class will refresh the shooter with cleaning and maintenance, positions, reloading

drills, malfunction drills, transition drill, and marksmanship building. Successful

completion of this class is required to carry a shotgun while on duty for the

Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.

This class is mandatory for all deputies that have a shotgun issued by the Oklahoma

County Sheriffs Office.
