The Willwood Herd
We’re Back!We will have two-year-old bulls for sale beginning 1/1/2012 in addition to some yearling bulls selected for calving ease.Three of the sires of our 2009 calf crop were carriers of the recessive genetic defects identified after breeding season by the American Angus Association. As a result we chose to castrate a lot of bull calves and cull many heifers. Through DNA testing, culling and sire selection we have eliminated the problem from our herd.We have strengthened the quality of the herd and are still breeding for the total package with special emphasis on carcass quality and calving ease.

J.B. McCorkle was the first full-time Angus Sale Manager in the breed established in 1939. J.B. Mc-Corkle’s father was an Angus breeder in Fayette, How-ard County, Missouri. He purchased his first registered Angus cattle in 1898. J.B. was one of the original inductees into the Ameri-can Angus Association’s Heritage Foundation program, the highest honor that can be bestowed on anyone in the Angus breed. Prior to being an Angus Sale Man-ager J.B. McCorkle was on the Animal Science staff at Ohio State University in Columbus assuming that posi-tion in 1936. J. B. McCorkle died in 1972. His legacy lives on in 2011.
