here are a few tips to help you with some of the common problems associated with camping:

ElectricalIf you experience the loss of power at your site be sure to check the following before reporting the problem to the office.

1. Check to be sure the electrical breakers are on in the site's electrical panel and that your power cord is securely plugged in.

2. Check to be sure the ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet has not tripped at the site's electrical panel. There are two buttons located on the 110 power outlet, one is a test and one is a reset.

3. Check to be sure a breaker or GFCI outlet has not tripped in your camping unit.

Water1. Danforth Bay has excellent water pressure. We highly recom-mend the use of pressure reducers (available at The Depot).

2. Frost-free hydrants are located on some sites. Handles must be fully raised to obtain full water flow.

3. In the event you experience a significant reduction in water pressure, be sure to remove any pressure reducers or in-line filters to examine them for dirt or sand.

cable tV (Channel Guide can be found on Page 38)Cable TV is available at each site. If you are unable to receive cable channels check the following:

1. Be sure your cable cord is in operating condition. There should be a wire filament located in the center of each male connector.

2. Both ends of your cable must be securely fastened.

3. Many RVs and Travel Trailers have a cable/antenna switch located inside the unit. Be sure it is in the cable position.

Septic hookupsSeptic hookups are located on many sites. Please be sure to use environmental and septic system friendly holding tank additives only. To avoid unpleasant odors or potential septic backup:

1. Be sure you have a good tight fitting seal when attaching to our septic connections.

2. You must keep your holding tank valves closed and only open to empty your holding tanks when they indicate at least 3/4 full or just before you check out.

It is illegal in the state of NH to dump gray water on the ground. Please dispose of your gray water appropriately by dumping your gray water collection tank in your sewer hookup at your site or the nearest dump station.

firewoodDanforth Bay has joined forces with the Don't Move Firewood campaign with a goal of protecting the trees and forests of New England by stopping the transportation of invasive insects and diseases in firewood. One of the most important things we can do to protect trees is stop moving invasive pests and diseases to new areas on firewood. It’s really that simple- don't move firewood, and keep trees healthy and alive.

Danforth Bay has heat-treated and insect-free firewood available to purchase by the bundle. If you wish to purchase larger quanti-ties of firewood, please inquire at The Depot for a list of local suppliers who can drop firewood off directly at your site.

Pie Iron Camping Recipes

The great thing about pie iron cooking (pie irons available for sale at The Depot Store) is that it's easy for the whole family to get involved! Although the learning curve is slight for basic sand-wiches and pies, the complexity can be taken up a notch or two for those so inspired.

Pie irons come with basic instructions and recipes; here are some creative and yummy ideas!

Sloppy Joes: Use canned, pre-cooked sloppy joe mix or make your own with hamburger, barbecue sauce and onion. (Meat must be precooked.) Place mix between buttered bread and cook over low heat until hot and toasty.

Rocky Road Treats: Spread peanut butter on two slices of bread. Add one large marshmallow and one chocolate bar square between buttered bread slices. Toast in cooker until bread is golden brown.

Pizza Pie: Place slice of pizza crust in cooker cavity, add tomato puree, green peppers, slivered garlic, oregano, mozzarella

cheese and top with pepperoni. Cover with second slice of pizza crust. Grill 3 or 4 minutes on each side or until desired doneness is reached. English muffins, sliced bread or pita can be used in place of pizza crust.

French Toast: Dip two bread slices into egg batter, place both slices into cooker, placing strawberry jam between bread slices. Toast until browned.

Fried Potatoes: Place sliced potatoes in cooker, add butter, salt and pepper (to taste) and close. Grill on both sides over low heat.

While camping at Danforth Bay, come up with your own creative recipes and submit them to www.pieiron.com/recipes.htm.

hiking in the White mountainsThere are over 1,200 miles of hiking trails in the White Mountains, from scenic day hikes to rugged multi-day treks through dense hardwood forest and across barren peaks.

By far the most popular hiking in the region is in the Presidential Range, topped off by the famous Mount Washington. There you will find breathtaking views, and unique above-treeline hiking unlike anything else in New England. In fact, at 6,288-feet above sea-level, Mount Washington is the tallest peak in the northeastern US.

However, there are many excellent (and less daunting) hikes closer to Danforth Bay as well. One of the most popular hikes in

the region is beautiful Mt. Chocorua, via the Piper Trail. The Piper Trail is an attractive trail that offers maximum walking on open ledges to the summit of Mt. Chocorua.

The trailhead is found six miles south of Conway on Rt. 16, behind the Piper Trail Cabins. The rocky summit of Mt. Chocorua is a 4.5 mile, 3 hours and 35 minute hike, which is rated moder-ate to difficult. Hikers gain 2,700 feet in elevation to take in the views from the summit.

There are also many great nearby family hikes, like Diana’s Baths, Green Mountain and Foss Mountain. Stop by the Depot and our staff will be happy to give you directions.

The Hoyt family would like to welcome you to Danforth Bay Camp-ing & RV Resort, one of the newer additions to the Purity Spring Resort family of businesses.

Owned and operated by the Hoyt Family of Madison since the late 1800’s, original founder Edward E. Hoyt operated The Hoyt Natural Mineral Spring Water Company, shipping bottled “Purity Spring Water” to Boston and New York City during the late 1800’s. A decade later, Hoyt had already begun to invite guests to his lakeside country inn before deciding in 1911 to devote more of his time to his lodging guests.

Originally named Purity Spring Farms and Cottages, guests from around New England were attracted to the over 1,000 natural acres of fields and forests which surrounded spring-fed Purity Lake. The Hoyt Family made land preservation a priority and even during the lean years around World War I when business dropped considerably, remained focused on keeping the property intact.

1932, Edward’s son, Milt, opened Camp Tohkomeupog for boys. A few years later, Milt’s sister, Ellen, opened Camp Wampineauk for girls, which operated until 1977.A rope tow was installed near Bald Ledge in 1938 and in 1944, after the inn was developed into a year-round business, Milt began offering ski camps during the school vacation weeks. Years later, in 1962, the first trails were cut for the new King Pine Ski Area.

In July of 2000, the Hoyt family purchased 3 parcels of land After purchasing the land, the Hoyts began the task of turning the campground back into one of New Hampshire's finest family camping resorts. Construction took a full year before Danforth Bay Camping & RV Resort was ready to open for its first season, Memorial Day weekend, 2001.

In 2006, The Bluffs RV Resort opened. The Bluffs is an expan-sion of Danforth Bay that was designed specifically as a seasonal and extended-stay RV resort for active adults over 50, offering a 10,000 sf clubhouse, tennis courts and much more.

Today, the fourth and fifth generations of the Hoyt Family operate the expanded Purity Spring Resort in much the same manner as their earlier relatives did and are now celebrating 100 years in the hospitality business in 2011!
