We wouldn’t have spent countless hours developing our Body Geometry technology with Dr. Andy Pruitt from the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine if we didn’t realize the benefits behind a perfect fitting shoe. After all, your feet are your power transfer. Every watt you put into those pedals should move you forward, not waste your energy.

All our BG shoes work to improve pedaling efficiency and prevent injury in three ways.

VARUS WEDGE

The Problem: Since the foot is naturally canted for walking and running (with the big toe higher than the little), that same angulation on a bike can cause rotational movement of the knee/shin/foot and cause the foot to collapse, which not only degrades efficiency, but creates knee pressure and strain.

The Solution: We engineer a Varus Wedge into the outsole of our BG shoes, giving the foot a 1.5mm angle to compensate for its natural tilt. This creates better alignment of the knee over the foot, boosting efficiency and comfort.

Then, there’s what you put in the shoes that makes a difference. BG High Performance Footbeds are available in three different levels to help riders fine tune the function of their cycling shoes and achieve a semi-custom fit: + = minimal, ++ = moderate, +++ = significant. Our footbeds are also accompanied by BG shims, which provide further fine-tuning of the rider’s forefoot (Varus/ Valgus) angle.

LONGITUDINAL ARCH

The Problem: Similar to its angulation, the foot’s arch is great for absorbing shock when walking or running, thanks to its natural flex. But unless the arch is supported while on a bike, it can hinder pedaling efficiency and rob power on the downstroke.

The Solution: The footbeds and outsoles of our BG shoes are constructed with Longitudinal Arch support, truly making every pedal stroke count in your favor.

METATARSAL BUTTON

The Problem: Cyclists often experience “hot spots” or numbness in the forefoot while riding, due to the fact that a snug shoe can lead to the compression of nerves and arteries in between the metatarsals (long bones of the forefoot).

The Solution: The Metatarsal Button in our BG shoes works against this problem by lifting and separating the metatarsals to eliminate related compression and discomfort.

We follow the doctor’s orders when it comes to saddle design because hours on a bike will quickly prove that an ill fi tting or poorly designed saddle is, well, pure hell. Ergonomic designer and medical doctor Roger Minkow was the fi rst person to present solutions for saddle pressure/dysfunction, and he helped us develop the specifi c shapes, contours and cutouts you’ll fi nd in all of our Body Geometry saddles.

MEN’S SADDLE DESIGN You’ve heard the rumors, and sadly they’re a reality. Studies prove

that the pressure conventional saddles put on the pudendal nerves and arteries reduces penile

No two pairs of sit bones are the same. Skinnier saddles don’t necessarily work best for smaller riders, wider saddles for larger riders, and so on. Even the difference in sit bone width when riding in an upright or aero position is signifi cant. Our FieldSensor material is a staple of Special-ized brand apparel, and there’s good reason why. When you sweat, the fabric pulls moisture through the garment and to the outside where it’s dis-persed for quick and easy evaporation, keeping you dry and comfortable on every ride. Test it out yourself with selections from our apparel line, including BG Pro RBX shorts and Offset jerseys. If you don’t see a salt-ring on the outside of those shorts, you’re not working hard enough!

UPF 50 Sun-Screening Fabric

Perfect for those hot summer months, our new jerseys with UPF 50 fabric make it easy to stay protected from the sun while riding. Our men’s Solar Jet Jersey (and women’s Solar Vita) uses advanced knit and fi ber techniques to deliver 2-3 times the sun protection of a normal jersey (50% vs. ~20%), without diminishing or wearing out over time. UPF 50 fabric contains 100% polyester in a high-density knit that’s still extremely lightweight and hydrophobic, so it’s just as performance-ready as the rest of our cycling apparel.

BG Glove Technology.

The key to our glove design has always been our Body Geometry gel padding, which cushions the ulnar nerve and reduces hand pressure by spreading compressive force from the bike. But this year’s road and mountain-specifi c glove designs with strategic padding will give riders even greater control and comfort.

REQUESTED BY QUICKSTEP to stand up to the rough roads of the Paris-Roubaix, our BG road padding uses a greater padding surface area to distribute pressure broadly across the palm and protect the ulnar nerve, whether steering from the hoods, drops or top.
