Shell: Skip next st, dc in next 3 sts; yarn over, working around the 3 dc just made (they will be encased), insert hook into the skipped stitch; pull up a loop to the height of the dc, yarn over and pull through two loops twice.

    Scarf

    Beginning chain = multiple of 4 + 1 Row 1: Ch197, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch to end. Mark this row as the right side. (196)

    Row 2: Ch3 (counts as dc), turn, dc in next st, work Shells across until 2 sts remain, dc in last 2 sts. (48 Shells, 4 dc)

    Rows 3: Ch1, turn, sc in each st to end. (196)

    Rows 4 to 19: Repeat Rows 2 and 3. Fasten off.

    Pockets Row 1: With right side facing you, join yarn in corner, ch1, sc 28 evenly across.

    Rows 2 to 27: Ch1, turn, sc in each st to end.

    Row 28: Ch1, turn, sl st in each st to end.

    Row 29: Work reverse single crochet (crab stitch) to end. Fasten off.

    Lay scarf flat with right side facing up. Fold pocket in half (bring last row to meet first row). Working along both sides of pocket, slip stitch or single crochet the edges closed.

    Repeat on the other end of the scarf.
