your help was greatly appreciated.
In addition to endless hours spent planning and fundraising for the
Academic Banquet each year, the PTO also provides scholarships
for the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian.
The very first FHS Academic Awards banquet and ceremony was organized by the Humanities Club and their
sponsor, Mr. James Feuge in 1969. The purpose was to honor the students who strove to achieve high goals of scholarship, leadership, and character.
In 1972, the Humanities Club partnered with the National Honor Society in the sponsorship of the event. The local busi-nesses helped cover the cost beginning in 1974. Since 2006, the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) adopted the banquet as one of their major projects. This prestigious annual event continues today with the sponsorship of the business estab-lishments and the contributions of parents.
1
The Academic Awards Banquet specifically honors the top ranked
students of each grade, the academically outstanding students who
have demonstrated mastery of specific skills, and the UIL* winners of
the following areas of competition: Academic, Literary,
Speech & Debate, Journalism, Robotics and Theatre.
The Academic Awards Banquet, a project of the FHS Parent-Teacher
Organization, is made possible by the contributions of parents and
business establishments.
*University Interscholastic League, the largest inter-school organization of its
kind in the world, oversees the extracurricular, athletic, and music contests
between schools.

By
Anushka Jetly Class of 2020, Valedictorian
There is no doubt that the Class of 2020 is very special. From hurricanes to
pandemics, we have seen it all. Though we were robbed of a proper senior
year, high school is about the journey, not the ending. From these past four
years, we will always remember the friendships we forged, the goals we
reached, the lessons we learned, and the memories we shared. Nothing,
not even the coronavirus, can take that away from us. Despite everything
that has been thrown our way, what we have been able to achieve is re-
markable. I know that we will continue to achieve greater things no matter
where life takes us after high school. And whatever obstacle we may be
faced with next, we will overcome it the same way we have before--with
spirit, determination, passion, and strength.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT,
BOARD OF TRUSTEES & PRINCIPAL
On behalf of all of FISD, I want to congratulate this year's award recipi-
ents. Though we may not be able to celebrate you in person, it in no way diminish-
es the accomplishments each of you have achieved during this school year. FHS
remains as one of the top schools in the state because of the commitment of our
administration, teachers, parents, and students to the individualized success of
each student. The contents of this program is a direct reflection of this culture.
Thad J. Roher,
FISD Superintendent
I want to congratulate each of the 2020 Academic Banquet winners. This has been a very unique year and I wish that we could have celebrated your properly in per-son this year. Your accomplishments in the classroom and in competition have continued the tradition of excellence at Friendswood HS. Keep up the hard work whether at FHS or in college and Go Mustangs!
Tony Hopkins, President, FISD Board of Trustees
I'm Mark Griffon, and I'm proud to be an educator in Friendswood, Texas, and excit-
ed to be the principal of these outstanding students we honor at our annual Aca-
demic Celebration. We would like to thank our outstanding staff of teachers and our
parents for their constant support and ability to work together which makes a huge
difference for FHS. We would also like to thank the PTO and our Librarian Shawna
Lewis for completing the program this year to honor our students.
Some final numbers we always like to mention are that our FHS Seniors as of to-
day have been offered over 3 million dollars in scholarship funds and our Seniors
have accepted 1.7 million dollars in scholarship funds. These scholarship numbers
will only increase as we move towards graduation. Our Seniors have supplied out-
standing leadership in all areas and have continued our tradition of excellence.
GO MUSTANGS!
