1. New seating chart??
2. Binders –• START SCHEDULES ON A NEW BLANK SHEET OF PAPER!!
• You MAY take the first semester schedules & assts out, bundle them together, and put them someplace safe at home. (You’ll want them to study for the 2nd semester final) OR … buy a new binder & keep all handouts/reference
3. Turn in Guided Notes ??
4. Slinky Minilab …• Work in groups of 3 (not 4) on the ground in the aisles,
• each person fill out worksheet; need to get up to #17 done today
• Hand slinky to teacher at end of class to check its not twisted together
5. Asst: (note there is an enlargement of the first slide on the back!)• packet 1 NOTES and then draw a line and …
• ANSWER the self-check questions (number them if they are not #’d; there are 10 of them)
• YOU WILL NOT GET FULL CREDIT UNLESS YOU DO BOTH!
Mon Jan 27 START SCHEDULES ON A NEW BLANK SHEET OF PAPER!!
Tues Jan 28
1. Collect packet 1 work (questions first)• Did you do BOTH notes, drew a line, THEN answered
questions too?• You will not get full credit unless you did both
2. Waves packet 1 quiz 3. FINISH Slinky minilab –
• all of side 2 AND • the interpretation questions must be done
4. HW: • waves packet 2 brief NOTES, draw line, then..• … ANSWER 18 questions also • (Slinky Minilab with interpretation questions *online if you need
them* is due Friday)
(oopsie: #16 answer = 5.9E-7
not E-9!)
Slinky Mini-lab Interpretation Questions1. What are some major & important characteristics of waves that you have
investigated in this minilab? List at least 3.
2. Where in the environment can you observe properties of waves in action?
3. The “wave equation” is v = . (Your book says v = f, but you should learn the use the “nu” which stands for “frequency”. Look at your results for lab questions about speed, wavelength and frequency. Find at least 2 examples which show the relationships in this formula. (ie: if velocity goes up, frequency also goes up, etc.) Write the lab question number, and write out the relationship that question showed, that supports the wave equation. You need at least 2 examples.
4. Sketch the three wave scenarios on the right on your own paper. After the equals sign, draw a single pulse that has the correct amplitude of that split-second meeting. (Why don’t you write in the value of the amplitude also, so it’s clear.)
5. ALSO, for each of the three wave scenarios at right, sketch what they will look like AFTER they are done interacting. (Hint: waves pass through and go back to exactly the way they were before, albeit in a new location.)
6. Finally, for each of the three scenarios at right, tell whether they are constructive or destructive interference.

7. HW (c): Start Earthquake packet notes …..DUE Monday!
• NOTE that you WILL be able to use anything from your Earthquake notes to answer the Earthquake questions on your waves test! (so do a good job!)
Thursday Jan 30
1. 1 partner logs in immediately 2. Turn in packet 3 work (questions first? – math??)
• (can you do those MATH problems correctly from both packets 2 & 3?)
3. Correct quiz 2; Waves packet 3 quiz4. Computers: CPU’s
• remember – you should have Doc 1 already saved in your I drive, so open that & keep going
5. HW (a): waves packet 4 VERY GOOD NOTES and then ANSWER the four questions ....DUE tomorrow!
6. HW (b): Slinky Minilab with interpretation questions *online if you need them* is …..DUE tomorrow!
7. HW (c): Start Earthquake packet notes …..DUE Monday!• NOTE that you WILL be able to use anything from your Earthquake notes
to answer the Earthquake questions on your waves test! (so do a good job!)
Note, on slide 11, your packet #4 may say:• Question: Open up your Physics book to page 304, Applying Concepts
#6. Please scratch that out and replace it with this:• Question: Open up your Physics book to page 397 #68.

Also, note some of them are EXTREMELY important:page 396 #57, 68, 79c, 81, 82, 93
Wed Feb 5
1. 1 person logs in immediately?? (need to finish CPU’s?)
2. Grade Quiz 5
3. Go over Slinky lab (correct with red pen)
4. Go over Guided Notes
5. Maybe some time to finish CPU’s ????• when done, work on book problems…
6. HW = FINISH Book problems (note very very very important ones = page 396 #57, 68, 79c, 81, 82, 93) Due Thursday
Thurs Feb 61. Go over CPU’s (lecture notes)2. Bill Nye Waves & worksheet (½ hour)
• Need to make up if absent!3. Asst: Answer 50 self-check questions quickly
WITHOUT looking at any notes, the book, or anything else. This is to be treated like a “pre-test”; unit test is this PLUS the book problems. If you end up having to leave a question blank (or have one you’re not sure about) THEN go back after you're all done with a different color. This will tell you exactly what you need to study this weekend!

CPU Sims 1-2 in brief• Sim 1, Relationships:
– NOTE – you would change amplitude or frequency by changing the source; change velocity by changing water
– If medium constant, velocity constant and wavelength & frequency change INDIRECTLY (one increases and the other decreases) ... 1st graph in excel
– If medium changes, frequency constant and velocity & wavelength change DIRECTLY (either both increase or both decrease) ... Graph 2 in excel
– Amplitude NOT dependent on anything (vel, wavelength, or frequency), nor can it change any of those .. First data table in Word, last graph in excel
• Sim 2, Reflections: – Law of Reflection says incidence
angle = reflection angle (don’t forget both must be measured from the normal!)
CPU Sims 3-4 in brief
• Sim 3, Depth (changing medium) Effects:– If medium changes, frequency
constant and velocity & wavelength change DIRECTLY (either both increase or both decrease) ... Graph 2 in excel
– If medium changes AT AN ANGLE, then because PART of the wave slows down or speeds up, the wave will BEND.
– Notice in middle picture, faster medium has bigger angle. (We will learn the math equation for this when we do Light/Optics.)
• Sim 4, Diffraction:– Neat pictures of single-slit diffraction
& double-slit diffraction (double-slit causes an interference pattern with nodes & antinodes)
– Learn: longer wavelengths and/or smaller slits cause more diffraction
Fri Feb 7 (copy next day too!)1. Note about inverse vs reciprocal, and angle
measurements2. Go over …
1. Concepts (57, 84, 87, 91, 6 & 8)2. Other book problems? 3. 50 Self-Check questions (#16, 47, others??)4. Bill Nye answers (if time)
