GETTING STARTED PRIMERS
Entering Math Expressions
Math in a Mathcad worksheet appears in familiar math notation - division
with a fraction bar, exponents in a raised position, and built-up fractions justas you would see in a book. Here are some quick exercises to learn a few
keystrokes and toolbar buttons. You will also learn how to get a numeric
result and to modify its format.
Definitions
numeric expressions- expressions involving numbers and operators
symbolic expressions - expressions involving numbers, unknowns(variables), and operators
result format - type of result, including: decimal, fractional, scientific, etc.
Practice
Entering a Numeric Expression Tip: Don't press the
Spacebar between parts
of the expression.
Mathcad enters the
correct spacing as you
type.

Using the Calculator Toolbar
The Calculatortoolbar may already be open on your screen, but
hidden under the Resources window. Click in the Worksheet windowand move the Calculatortoolbar over to the far left. Then bring your
Resources window back up to make it the "active" window.
If the Calculatortoolbar is not open, then follow these steps in the
Worksheet window:
Select Toolbars > Calculator
from theViewmenu.

Tip: All toolbars are floating, so you can
move one wherever you want by
dragging it around your screen.
With your Calculatortoolbar in view next to the Resources window, firstclick in the Resources window, then:

Changing a Result to Fractional Format
Click on the right of this result
and select Resultfrom the
Formatmenu. Make sure you
scroll down enough to see the
next set of instructions.
