Kimball Union Academy Strong Showing in the United Kingdom e Greater Manchester YMCA Catalinas Synchronized Swim Team traveled recently to Buffalo, NY to compete in the 2012 East Zone Age Group/Intermediate Champion- ship and 13-15 Open Synchronized Swim Meet where the team shined once again. Teams from all around New England and the Mid Atlan- tic states were represented at this meet. e Catalinas competed in the Solo, Trio, Team and mandatory Figures competitions. Graduating High School Senior, Emily McAuliffe of Londonderry placed 4th for her 13 and over solo routine and Elizabeth Herod of Goffstown placed 5th for her 13 and over solo routine. Both girls scored a personal best. In the 13 and over trio competi- tion, Lindsey Andrews of Dunbar- ton, Sarah Hannaford of Bedford, and Abigail Smith of Manchester placed 2nd. e Catalinas had two squads compete in the 13 and over team routines. e green squad made up of Sarah Hannaford, Irina Kustovs- kaya of Goffstown, Molly Spalding of Mont Vernon, Abigail Smith, and Lily Zemelko of Derry placed 1st. e red squad made up of Lindsey Andrews, Olivia Caselden of Der- ry, Madelinn Harmelink of Dun- barton, Ilana Hensley of Amherst, Elizabeth Herod, Emily McAuliffe, Kaylie Piecuch of Goffstown, and Katherine Spalding of Mont Vernon placed 9th. In the mandatory figures the Catalinas swept the top 4, 13 and over positions with Lily Zemelko placing 1st, Molly Spalding in 2nd, Irina Kustovskaya taking 3rd, and Katherine Spalding placing 4th. e Catalinas ended their sea- son with a team banquet at the Weathervane Restaurant in Bed- ford. All the girls on the team were given a booklet of photos high- lighting their year. e team MVP Award that is given to a swimmer who has consistently placed high in figure and routine competitions throughout the season was award- ed to Sarah Hannaford of Bedford. e Most Improved Award is given to a Novice, an Intermediate and an Age Group swimmer with the most improved figure scores throughout the season. Novice swimmer Sarah Hanna of Goffstown, Intermediate swimmer Madelinn Harmelink of Dunbarton, and Age Group swim- mer Irina Kustovskaya of Goffstown were awarded these awards. e Sportsmanship Award that goes to a swimmer who swims with a high re- spect for synchronized swimming, self and others was awarded to Ol- ivia Caselden of Derry. e Rook- ie Award that is given for the best first year on the team was awarded to Lily Zemelko of Derry. e final award given out was the Catalina Award. is is given annually by the coaches to a swimmer who best demonstrates, throughout the sea- son, the true spirit of synchronized swimming. It is given not only for hard work and personal improve- ment, but also for a willingness to understand, to learn, to enter into a partnership with coaches and team- mates in an effort to recognize one’s full potential. Emily McAuliffe of Londonderry is the recipient of the 2012 Catalina Award. MERIDEN - e Kimball Union boys basketball team traveled to Scotland and England to play sev- en international basketball games August 8 - 17th. e team finished their tour with a 5 - 2 record, both their losses in overtime to Scottish Club teams which had players that have played or are playing Division 1 basketball in the U.S.. e team concluded the trip with a great win versus the Midnight Madness Club who defeated Divi- sion 1 Stoney Brook (New York) last year while they visited London. e game versus Midnight Mad- ness was the first game played at the new Nike facility called the “Re- gal” (regalbasketball.com). Kimball started off strong and never looked back winning 105 - 82. Kimball got strong performances from Devon omas (Baltimore, MD) 33 points and 10 assists, Devin Gilligan (Am- herst, NH) 15 points, 9 rebounds and Malik Abu (Boston, MA) 15 points, 10 rebounds. Graduating seniors, Isabella Stuopis and Sam- my Jones, have created some big shoes to fill this season, however seniors Keelie Mackelvey and Jess Roberge, as well as Emily Shaw up the JV squad this year are up for the challenge. One new addition to the team this year is senior Astri John- son, a transfer student from Texas; Astri brings some additional experi- ence and skill to the team. e Sabers have a powerful set of juniors this year, with a season of varsity experience they will be an exciting team to watch grow and develop through the season. Ju- niors include; Amanda Gendron, Ella Garvey, Michaela D’Angelo (new to the team), Madison Adams, and Taylor Charbonneau (up from jv this year). Everyone is working toward a successful season. e Sabers first home match will be Friday, September 7 against Ports- mouth with JV playing at 4:30pm, and Varsity staring at 6:00 pm. Souhegan Volleyball Starts Season At Home, September 7

Kimball Union Academy Strong Showing in the United Kingdom

The Greater Manchester YMCA Catalinas Synchronized Swim Team traveled recently to Buffalo, NY to compete in the 2012 East Zone Age Group/Intermediate Champion-ship and 13-15 Open Synchronized Swim Meet where the team shined once again. Teams from all around New England and the Mid Atlan-tic states were represented at this meet.

The Catalinas competed in the Solo, Trio, Team and mandatory Figures competitions.

MERIDEN - The Kimball Union boys basketball team traveled to Scotland and England to play sev-en international basketball games August 8 - 17th. The team finished their tour with a 5 - 2 record, both their losses in overtime to Scottish Club teams which had players that have played or are playing Division 1 basketball in the U.S..
