Stronger Communities Grants Funding

Our Ocean Shores Tidy Town Committee (Australia's lead-

ing and longest running Community & Environmental Pro-

gram) has proposed a community proposal for the next

round of Stronger Country Communities Grant Funding.

We've registered our proposal 'Connecting Places and

Spaces in Ocean Shores with Off-Road Shared Cycle/Walk

Pathways' on Council's 'Have Your Say' website to support

our kids and the wider community.

This project includes:

connectivity between Ocean Shores Public School,

via OS Sportsfield, along (1st Stage) eastern side of

Balemo Drive (Routes 15, 28 & 29) to Waterlily

Park along Orana Rd and (2nd Stage) Warrambool

Rd to Ocean Village Shopping Centre on the exist-

ing Rajah Rd pathway.

shared off-road pathways for pedestrians and cy-

clists.

all abilities access, including mobile scooters.

provide healthier, safer, affordable and sustainable

travel alternatives that connect places and spaces in

Ocean Shores.

Details of our proposal are on the 'Have Your Say' on

Council's home page, or below FYI. Just click on 'Have Your

Say' scroll down to 'View All Ideas' and vote for your fa-

vourite project. N.B. Every different email address in your

household can vote for this Ocean Shores project too. You

can each vote for multiple favourites as well, now that

Council techs have attended to the glitches.

If clicking on the heart to vote doesn't acknowledge/count

your vote after a few minutes, can you please email Jodi

Frawley at Council [email protected] and

report that the voting heart is not active/mobile phone

doesn't receive confirmation email/or if you had any difficul-

ties, and ask Jodi to add your votes manually for SHARED

PATHWAYS - CONNECTING PLACES AND SPACES IN

OCEAN SHORES.

Sharing on your Facebook sites and with family and friends

will help too. Thankyou in advance for your support .

My wife, Tina is President of OS Tidy Towns, and also the

Treasurer for Waterlily Community Playscape Inc. and

we've both witnessed the amazing support that the OSPS

students and their parents have provided with WCP event

management and performances over the past couple of

years, and we want you to know that Ben Franklin MLC

(NSW Parliamentary Secretary) was "absolutely blown

away" (Ben's words) by the student speeches and perfor-

mances" on the last WCP Community Event.

We hope that your students and parents can add their vote

online to support safe off-road cycle/walkways to connect

important spaces for our kids.

When our community works together we can achieve

incredible things.

Kind Regards,

Stan Petroff

OSPS Maths Olympiad Team 2018

LAST WEEKS SOLUTION

119 square metres

The Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical

Olympiads (APSMO) is a not-for-profit, professional

organisation that offers a range of mathematical

competitions for students aged from around eight to 14.

This year, a team from Ocean Shores Public School, will

compete with teams from thousands of schools around

Australia and New Zealand, in 5 APSMO competitions

commencing May 23rd.

To support our Maths Olympiad Team, we offer weekly

training sessions to: introduce students to important

mathematical concepts; teach strategies and develop

flexibility for problem solving; foster creativity and

ingenuity and stimulate enthusiasm and enjoyment of

mathematics.

Introducing our official 2018 OSPS Maths Olympiad team:

Evie Boschma-Wagner, Evelyn Allsep, Anastasia Clark,

Eden Rotstein, Bodhi Gracie Henry, Griffin Pelling, Kai

Bar Giora, Jake Bailey, Quinn Labelle, Nicolas Bleach,

John Ray, Honey Mowbray, Skye Waters, Juliette Adlard,

Kane Wilson, Oscar Wilson, Indira Arnold, Jamie Garrett,

Kerala Richards and Yarrow Alleston.

We commend these students on their commitment and

wish them the best in these challenging competitions.

All other interested students in years 4,5 and 6 are

welcome to train with our team on Wednesdays at

Playbreak in Guraman 2M.

For more information about the competition go to:

http://www.apsmo.edu.au/main/apsmo_about_cm.php

THIS WEEK’S PROBLEM IS:

Five students sit around a circular table. Their chairs are

numbered in order from 1 through to 5. Juliette sits next

to both Oscar and Griffin. Nicolas sits next to both

Oscar and John. The numbers on Juliette’s and Griffin’s

chairs add up to 6. Who sits in chair number 3?

ANZAC Care Packages

This week classes have written letters to members of the

defence force who are currently deployed overseas.

These letters will accompany 'care packages' to lift the

spirits of our servicemen and women on Anzac Day.

Thanks to Tracey James for organisation.

Commonwealth Games Report

Proudly written by Romme Williams & Evie Boschma-Wagner

Tuesday the 10th of April our School Parliament were

given the opportunity to accompany ‘The Pocket School’

to the Commonwealth Games. It was inspirational for us

to watch these hard working athletes compete. We saw

various sports, but one of the most exciting events was

the men’s long jump when an Australian (Henry Frayne)

set a new Commonwealth Games record with an

outstanding jump of 8.34 m (old record was 8.30m).

Another event that stood out was an Australian pole

vaulter who flew through the sky over a 5.10m high bar.

It was an amazing day, unfortunately there were a few

accidents in the long jump, where an athlete pulled his

ham string and in pole vault another athlete landed on his

head while practising. Whilst we were exiting the stadium

we got the chance to take a photo with Melissa Breen,

who runs in the 100m for Australia.

We would like to say a big thank you to the amazing

Pocket School for generously supplying us

parliamentarians with tickets to the 2018 21st

Commonwealth Games. This was a rare opportunity

which we will never forget.

Celebrating Family, Learning & Community

On Thursday around 50 family members and friends of

Stage 2 students gathered to celebrate and play board

games made by the students as part of the unit of work

studied this term.

The theme of Australia was explored and students

applied their knowledge of award winning author and

illustrator Alison Lester’s book Are We There Yet to

create the board games.

Ambyr Jonhston from the Mullumbimby and District

Neighbourhood Centre is visiting our school every

Thursday morning. She is here to support our par-

ents and is available to meet with here at school, or

at a more suitable time during the week via appoint-

ment.

As a bonus she will be working the first week of the

April school holidays and would love to meet any

parents over this week, and hopefully offer support

or assistance where she can.

Ambyr can be contacted directly on 0439 668 544, to

chat or make an appointment.
