DIVINE FILIATION
"Divine filiation" is a theological term for the fact that we are
God's children, and it is the most important thing to know about
ourselves. For the first time today, the Feast of the Baptism of
the Lord, Jesus in His humanity is publicly acknowledged by the
Father as His Son. This is what God the Father does in Baptism.
He acknowledges His children.
If you are baptized, you are a child of God. It is the greatest thing
that can ever happen to you! Baptism is about establishing this relationship with
the Father. That is why it is so appropriate for infants to be baptized.
This is your identity, and God gives it to you. You don't earn it, and you can't
lose it. From the day of your baptism on, God sees you as His child. What would
it be like to remember this always? How much peace and confidence you would
have! How well you would live, if you remembered that you are a child of God all
the time!
Faithfully,
Fr. Baker
Fielmente,
Padre Baker
CARE FOR THE CHURCH
“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to
those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:10.
Saint Rose is in need of parishioners who desire to do “hands on work” for our
household of faith. If you would like to become a volunteer Sacristan in
preparing the Church, altar, candles, vestments, linens, etc. for Mass please
contact Paula Farmer at 615-974-7676. A training session will be held on
January 31. Please plan on joining us and learn how you can grow in service,
spirit and social interaction.
Now you can be part of the Bridge Ministry, just
shopping the way you usually do! Enroll your Kroger
Card for Saint Rose and a % of your purchase will
come back to our Ministry. This will help us provide
financial assistance to more families in need. We ask all our
parishioners to log in to www.kroger.com/account/communityrewards and enroll your Kroger
Card for Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church – Bridge Ministry (Code PF646).
We are also in need of volunteers. If you would like to share your time and help others,
it will only take from 9:00am to 12:00pm every other Tuesday.
For more information please send an email to [email protected]. Blessings.

HAITI NEWS: It is always good to report progress in our sister parish in Haiti. However, this is
not one of those reports. Jessica Philippe was a 5
th
grader at Notre Dame de la Merci School who
took ill Christmas Eve Day. Her mother brought her to the Rose-Merci Clinic to see one of the
doctors. She complained of abdominal pains. It is a common symptom in Haiti and the cause is not
always easy to diagnose. An exam was taken and lab tests ordered. Medication to soothe the
stomach and ease the pain was given. At 1:00 AM, Christmas Day, Jessica died after receiving the
Sacrament of the Sick. Jessica was 14 years old, a bit old by our standards of a 5
th
grader.
However, she was one of 8 children. Sometimes the educational opportunity in Haiti has to be
staggered so that all children have a chance to be educated. Jessica was a good student and she
loved working in the School Garden. Her teacher said she was happy and wise for her age. She
was cooperative and obedient. She loved singing in the children’s choir in church. Most of all she
loved God. A sad loss for the family, the community and her school companions. Our Rose-Merci
Clinic is well-stocked with medications lab techs and we employ 3 fine doctors and 3 nurses. But,
the reality of living in Robillard can be harsh. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Haiti and
the repose of Jessica.
